Preferences › Guides & Grid › Gridline every and Subdivisions set the
grid of the documents that were open when either value changed, and of
no other document. A document made with File › New, or opened from a
file VectorCraft reads no grid from (SVG, PDF, EPS, .ai and the other
imported formats), got a 72 pt grid with 8 subdivisions, whatever the
preferences were set to. After a restart the saved values applied to no
document, because the desktop app restores the preferences at launch,
before any document is open.
file.new now gives a new document the preferences' grid, and
document.open, file.newFromTemplate and file.revert give it to a
document read from such a file. A native file, and the native document
that an SVG, PDF, .ai or EPS file carries, keep the grid they were
saved with. Changing either preference still sets the grid of every
open document.

Fixes#1273. A selected group or compound path shows its paths' anchors
with the Pen, but Pen + Alt only looked at paths selected directly, so an
Alt-click there started a new path instead of converting the anchor.

Add deterministic document-space grain, highlight controls and a live
dialog with preview, cancel, undo and appearance editing. Preserve
coverage, support existing native and raster export paths, translate
new labels and update parity documentation.
Validate the tonal curve, stationarity, subpixel strength, zoom filtering
and tile seams. Full cargo xtask ci passes all seven gates.
The follow-up #966 left room for. With automatic kerning, horizontal type
with Proportional Metrics also applies `apkn`, and vertical type applies
`vkrn` and `vapk` along with `vpal`. Manual kerning turns them off, as it
turns off `kern`.
Vertical kerning used to cancel out: both top-to-bottom shapings had
harfrust's default `vkrn`. The baseline now has neither `vpal` nor the
kerning, so their difference carries both. A third shaping (`vpal` alone)
tells which advances `vpal` itself changed, and mojikumi steps aside only
for those. Vertical type without Proportional Metrics isn't kerned, as
before.

The endpoints of a selected segment are hollow, so select.anchors and select.anchorsMany now
start from no anchors of that path instead of toggling the endpoint off.
select.anchors in toggle and add mode now starts from all of a path's
anchors when the path is selected as a whole, as select.anchorsMany does.
Before, Shift-clicking an anchor of a fully selected path left only that
anchor selected.
Follow-up to #1237 / #1254.

The colour histogram used the top 5 bits of each channel, so tones less
than 8 values apart always shared a bin and could never get their own
palette entry, however many colours were asked for. A dark, low-contrast
photo (a book-cover texture with RGB 33..66) traced to 5 colours when 12
were requested, and eight grey stripes 32..39 traced to one:
vectorcraft-cli run --in stripes-32-39.png --cmd select.all \
--cmd imageTrace.makeAndExpand \
--params '{"params":{"mode":"color","colors":8,"noise":0,"method":"overlapping"}}'
-> {"anchors":4,"colors":1,"id":4,"paths":1}
The histogram keeps its 32x32x32 bins, now fitted to each channel's range
among the opaque pixels: a channel spanning at most 32 values keeps every
value apart, a full-range channel keeps the old 5-bit bins.
