Export Selection, Asset Export, the Assets tab of Export for Screens
and the rasterized art of CSS Properties cropped each object to its
visual bounds, which leave out live effects. A path with an 8 pt drop
shadow was exported with the shadow cut off at the path's edge, and
a group's own shadow was cut off the same way.
The crop is now the bounds the renderer measures for what it draws
(`vectorcraft_render::effect_bounds`): `painted_bounds` without its
room for brush art. A brushed path is cropped to its visual bounds as
before, and a Shaper group leaves out its transparent source art as
its visual bounds do. `assets.list` reports the same crop. The
renderer measures a shadow's or glow's reach on every side of the
object, so the image also has transparent room on the side away from
an offset shadow.

PDF, EPS, EMF/WMF and raster exports, and SVG exports that outline or
embed fonts, warn when type is set in a font family that isn't
available, but file.print and print.preview gave no such warning. A job
in a missing family printed in Source Sans 3 with no warning, and the
Print dialog's Summary showed none.
Both commands now add the exports' warning for the type that prints:
visible type that fits its frame or path, on the layers that Print
Layers picks, where what it paints (its effects applied) lands on the
paper of an artboard or tile that prints, inside its clipping paths.
The type in the symbols, inline graphics, patterns, scatter brushes,
opacity masks and placed documents of the art that prints counts too.
file.print reads the fonts before raster effects and Print as Bitmap
turn type into images, for PDF and PostScript output.
Docs: docs/mcp.md (Print), docs/target-app-parity.md (Fonts).
dataset.select applied a row's values in the order the variables were
defined, and it skips an object inside a hidden group. When a row
showed a group and set an object inside it, and the object's variable
was defined first, the object was skipped while the group was still
hidden: one selection applied the row in part, and selecting the row
again applied the rest. A text variable on type inside the group was
skipped the same way, and a row that hid a group skipped the objects
inside it whose variables were defined after the group's.
dataset.select, dataset.next and dataset.prev now apply the visibility
values that show objects first, outermost object first, then the other
values in definition order, then the visibility values that hide
objects, innermost object first. Of two variables of the same kind on
one object, the one defined last still wins.
Docs: docs/mcp.md.
A data set can hold values for only some variables: `dataset.new` and
`dataset.set` store only the values they are given, and selecting the
data set leaves the other variables alone. Update Data Set replaced the
active data set's values with the values the art reports for every
variable. After one Update, a data set that set only a visibility
variable also held the current text of the bound type, and selecting it
again wrote that text back. Update also dropped a variable's value when
its objects were locked or inside a hidden or locked layer or group,
because such objects report no value.
`dataset.update` now writes the art's current value for each variable
the active data set holds, and keeps the data set's value when the art
reports none. A variable that the data set does not hold stays out of
it, including one defined after the data set was captured;
`dataset.update {all: true}` also adds the other variables that the art
reports a value for. The reply adds `left`, the variables it did not
write. The Variables panel's Update Data Set button and menu item run
it without `all`.
Docs: docs/mcp.md, docs/target-app-parity.md.
With Align to Artboard chosen, the Align panel's six Distribute Objects
buttons and its two Distribute Spacing buttons acted on the selection.
object.distribute and object.distributeSpacing took no to or artboard
param. Distribute Objects kept the outermost objects where they were
and did nothing with two objects, and Distribute Spacing kept the first
object's left or top edge and the last object's right or bottom edge
where they were.
Both commands now take to ("selection", "artboard" or "key") and
artboard, and the panel sends its Align To choice as to. When to is
"artboard", the first object's left or top edge goes to the artboard's
left or top edge, and the last object's right or bottom edge goes to
the artboard's right or bottom edge. Distribute Objects spaces the
other objects evenly by its button's line, and two objects are enough.
Distribute Spacing without a spacing value makes the gaps between the
objects equal. Both commands use the same artboard as object.align.
The app passes the active artboard to both commands, and recorded
actions leave it out, so an action plays on the artboard that is
active when it plays. With "selection" or "key", or without to, both
commands work as before. Distribute Spacing with a spacing value still
keeps the key object in place with each of the three to values. With
anchor points selected, both commands still space the points among
themselves and do not use to.

The Legacy .ai Options dialog gains Hidden Objects (Hidden Layer, Omit, Make Visible) and Text
(Editable, Outlines), translated in every catalog. Docs: type and hidden objects in the legacy
.ai paragraphs, the restored revision rows and roadmap row.
Use automatic vector smooth shading without a separate control.
Enable Cap by default and keep continuous rim curves and bounded seam joins.
Integrate the shared dialog with the other three 3D effects.
A set whose entries sit in long, deeply nested sections kept every section's names again for each entry (up to hundreds of megabytes from a 4 MiB file); the names kept over all entries now stop at 8 MiB. Name matching compares character pairs in linear time, so a 20,000-entry set of long names is matched in about 2 s instead of 17 s.
A shortcut set another app saved as slash-name text (a .kys file whose
text starts with a slash name and "{", such as "/Menus {") opens in
Import Shortcut Set from File › Open, from Edit › Keyboard Shortcuts ›
Import… in the desktop app, or from a drop on the window, whether or
not a document is open. The dialog proposes a target for an entry when
an earlier import kept one for that name, or else when one tool,
command or panel matches the name clearly by its id or by one of its
labels. It decodes the file's key and modifier codes from the codes
earlier imports kept, from the example in the AiCommandPalette README
(/Key 48 for the 0 key, with /Modifiers 0 taken as no modifiers), and
from VectorCraft's default shortcuts where at least two entries vote and
four votes in five agree. The user picks the remaining targets, presses
the key for each unknown key code or marks it No equivalent, and chooses
the modifiers for each unknown modifier code. Apply assigns the ready
rows with the Keyboard Shortcuts rules: a tool takes a single key,
optionally with Shift. It goes through the rows from the last one back
and leaves a row out when a later row it applies has the same shortcut
or the same tool, command or panel. Keyboard Shortcuts then shows the
result as unsaved changes until the user clicks OK. Copy Report copies
the set's name, the rows Apply leaves out and the parts of the file that
weren't read.
- shortcutSet.read is a query command: it reads a set and does not
modify the document or the preferences. It returns each entry with
its section, codes and line, and up to 1,000 skipped tokens, each cut
to 80 characters. It reads at most 4 MiB of text and 20,000 entries,
skips blocks nested more than 16 deep and cuts names at 1,024 bytes.
With a path it reads at most 4 MiB and 4 bytes of the file, and with
--automation-read-root (#832) the path must lie inside the read root.
A file whose text starts with "<", such as an XML shortcut file saved
as UTF-8, fails with "This shortcut file is in a form VectorCraft
can't read."
- importMatches.list, importMatches.set and importMatches.reset read
and change the matches kept with the preferences; resetting the
preferences keeps them. With Remember My Choices on (the default),
Apply keeps the targets and codes the user chose, and for the rows it
assigns, it also keeps the matched targets and the codes decoded by
agreement. A later import proposes them.
- The name matcher compares a name with ids by exact match and shared
words. It compares the name with labels, in English and in the
interface language, by exact match, shared words and character
pairs. It proposes a match only when one tool, command or panel
scores at least 0.6 and at least 0.1 more than the next one.
- When Import Shortcut Set is opened from Keyboard Shortcuts, Cancel,
Escape and ui.dialog.cancel close it and return to Keyboard Shortcuts
as it was (dialogs::PARENT). A document's queued Missing Fonts dialog
(#792) opens after Keyboard Shortcuts closes.
- File › Open has a "Shortcut sets" filter, and in the desktop app
Keyboard Shortcuts' Import… shows .json and .kys files.

The public 3D and Materials panel options give the Light Settings as
Intensity (0–100 %), Rotation (-180° to 180°), Height (0° to 90°),
Softness (0–100 %) and Ambient Light (0–200 %), with the light moved to
the back or the front of the object. The 3D effects (Revolve included)
had Direction and Elevation (an azimuth and elevation), Intensity and
Ambient (0–100 %).
- Rotation turns the light round the object on the page (our reading:
0° on its right, counterclockwise); Height raises it from beside the
object (0°) to straight in front (90°); Light behind the object puts
it at the back. The light gizmo's ring and line are Rotation and
Height.
- Softness wraps the light round the object: at 0 % it falls off with
the angle as before, at 100 % it reaches nothing only straight away.
- Ambient Light runs to 200 %; faces stay no brighter than the art.
- lightRotation, lightHeight, lightBehind and lightSoftness replace
lightAzimuth and lightElevation. An earlier light is read as the same
direction, so it shades exactly as before (old and new code give the
same colours for the four effects and five lights); effect.setParams
turns a stored one into the new form before applying new values, and
the parameter description names lightAzimuth and lightElevation as the
earlier form, so effect.apply and effect.setParams still take them. The
default light is the earlier default's: Rotation 125.26°, Height 30°.
- The dialog's Lighting tab shows the settings in the documented order;
Softness, Ambient Light and Light behind the object are in every
catalog, and the unused Direction, Elevation and Ambient are gone.
Light colour, presets, several lights and shadows are not built.
The public 3D and Materials panel options give Perspective as 0° to 160°
("how close or far the object appears"); it was a 0–100 % strength, for
Revolve, Extrude & Bevel, Inflate and Rotate alike.
- The eye stands where a sphere about the object's centre, √3 times its
half size (the box around it fits inside), fills that angle of the
view: 0° is none, wider brings the eye nearer, and at 160° it is just
outside the sphere, never inside the object. The documentation doesn't
say how the angle places the eye; docs/three-d.md says this is our
reading.
- `perspectiveAngle` (degrees) replaces `perspective` (%). A strength from
an earlier file or script is read as the angle that shows exactly the
same view: sin(angle / 2) = √3 × strength / 4, 100 % about 51.3°. An
angle given too wins. effect.setParams turns a stored strength into the
angle before applying new values. The parameter description names
`perspective` as the earlier form, so effect.apply and effect.setParams
still take it under the key check of #1592. Old and new code draw the four effects identically at 0, 25,
60 and 100 % (bounds equal to 1e-9).
- The dialogs' Perspective fields run 0–160°.

# docs/target-app-parity.md
Every symbol instance was measured as its transform applied to the
20 × 20 square around the origin, which symbols made in the app keep
their art in. The SVG and DXF importers keep symbol art as drawn, so
the box of an instance of an imported symbol did not match its art.
The SVG Star instance at x 20, y 30 draws from (20, 30) to (40, 50)
and was measured from (10, 20) to (30, 40). Align moved such an
instance by the wrong amount, clicks and marquees beside its art
selected it, and the canvas, exports and prints left it out when its
art reached the view or the page and the square did not.
An instance is now measured by its symbol's art, which
Document::symbol_boxes looks up in the document each time
(Node::geometric_bounds_with, visual_bounds_with and
reach_bounds_with). With Use Preview Bounds on, the strokes in the art
count at their own weight, as the canvas draws them, and
object.setBounds counts them at that weight when it sizes an instance
or an object that holds one. When strokes do not scale and a width or
height of 0 or more is smaller than what a path's stroke adds,
object.setBounds now gives the path no width or height, as it does
for an instance whose art has strokes; before, it mirrored the path.
With Use Preview Bounds on, object.setBounds now measures the margins
that strokes add object by object, the members of groups and the
objects in symbol instances' art included, and solves for the width,
height and reference point asked for when the width and height are 0
or more. Before, it measured the margins of the whole selection and
could miss the size or the reference point asked for when strokes did
not scale and the objects' strokes added different margins, and when
strokes scaled and the width and height were out of proportion, even
for one path. A clip group, a Shaper Group, a compound path, type, and
a group or instance with effects or an opacity mask of its own are each
measured as one object, and so is an instance in perspective or one
turned or slanted relative to the bounding box, other than by quarter
turns. When the selection holds more than 4,096 objects to measure this
way, each selected object is measured as one. Instances inside symbol
art are measured by their own symbol's art. An instance is measured as
the square when its symbol is missing, when its symbol or a symbol
nested in its art holds an instance of itself, and when symbols nest 32
deep in its art.
Align and Distribute, the Transform panel, the bounding box and the
selection outline, clicks, the marquee, document.inspect and
document.node, Fit to Artwork Bounds and Fit to Selected Art, canvas
culling, thumbnails, the SVG filter region of an instance with a
raster effect, raster effect images, Export Selection, the SVG of an
artboard, printing, and the PDF, EPS, EMF/WMF and DXF writers use the
new box. The renderer also culls an instance by the effects and
brushed strokes in its art, and it culls a blend, envelope or repeat
by the brush art of what it holds and the effects in the art of the
instances in it. It culls an instance with geometry effects of its own
by the effects in its art after those geometry effects reshape the art.
It measures the effects in a symbol's art once for each symbol and
linear part of the transform that places it. For symbols whose art
holds instances, it measures at most 4,096 placements a frame, and at
most 4,096 more for each pattern tile it rasterizes and each placed
document it draws. Past that, it estimates the reach from the symbol's
reach with no transform, which it measures once. When the drawn
document's symbols change, the renderer drops the cached bounds of the
instances and of the objects that hold them.
The PDF and EPS writers, the SVG of an artboard and Skip Blank
Artboards grow the box of an instance whose art holds brushed strokes
by 16 times the widest stroke (at least 1 pt) of the objects in that
art that have a brushed stroke, plus 8 pt, as the renderer grows the
cull bounds of a brushed path. They keep an instance whose brush art
reaches the page. The SVG of an artboard also keeps an object that
holds an instance when what the canvas paints for it, the effects in
the symbol's art and the instance's own included, reaches the artboard.
Not yet: other commands that measure objects, such as Select › All on
Active Artboard, Transform Each and Convert to Artboards, still measure
an instance by the square.
Docs: docs/mcp.md, docs/target-app-parity.md.
The server dispatched requests and notifications without ever checking jsonrpc, so a missing or wrong version could invoke tools or flip notification state; Remote accepted any reply with ok/result/error without comparing ids, so a faulty endpoint could attribute a stray result to the current call. handle() now requires jsonrpc 2.0 before dispatch (other envelopes get -32600, or are ignored for notifications, which have no id for a reply) and Remote::call rejects a reply whose id doesn't echo the request's, dropping the connection so the next call starts fresh, with the usual uncertainty error. Three new tests cover wrong/missing versions (incl. batch entries and a state-changing notification) and the mismatch-reconnect; docs/mcp.md documents both. cargo test -p vectorcraft-mcp passes.
The server read stdio lines and remote replies without any byte bound, answered batches of any size, and command_batch kept every step result: one faulty peer or batch could allocate and work without bound. Request lines are now read in bounded chunks (16 MiB; longer lines get a -32600 reply, are skipped, and framing continues), protocol batches hold at most 64 messages, control-channel replies past 256 MiB drop the connection with the usual uncertainty error, command_batch takes at most 256 steps and keeps at most 8 MiB of step results (past that the batch stops with the reason, still closing its atomic undo group). Eight new tests cover the line/batch/step/result caps and the atomic-group close; docs/mcp.md and the command_batch tool text document them. cargo test -p vectorcraft-mcp passes.
text.create, text.createInPath and the MCP add_text tool now take a
`justify` (auto|left|center|right|justifyAll, as text.setStyle). Point
type already laid out centred or right-aligned text around its origin;
it just could not be made that way, so scripts measured the bounds and
moved the text. Changing it afterwards stays text.setStyle {justify}.
VectorCraft does not run scripts written for the reference app, and
File › Scripts held only the disabled Other Script…. File › Scripts ›
Check Script… picks a .jsx, .jsxinc or .jsxbin file, reads it without
running any of it, and shows a report: what the script needs (the
script language's own objects, the document model, files, menu
commands, dialogs, or features only the reference app has), what it
would do outside the document, the menu-command strings it passes, the
document-model member chains and type names it uses, its directives,
the files it includes, and the problems that would stop it loading.
Copy Report copies the report as JSON. File › Open and drag-and-drop
show the report for those files too.
- vectorcraft-scriptcheck, a new Standalone crate with no
dependencies, holds the checker: a lexer for ECMAScript 3 with E4X
literals and the #name and //@name directive lines, and an analysis
of the tokens that follows variables, function scopes and the files
a script includes. It never recurses: open brackets, the levels of
an XML literal and the function bodies being read are kept on stacks
capped at 4,096. It reads at most 8 MiB of a file and 32 MiB with the
included files, follows 64 included files 16 deep, looks up at most
1,024 paths for them, keeps 1,000 entries in a list, tracks 1,000
variables holding member chains and 1,000 holding File objects, and
cuts echoed text to 120 characters. A compiled script is reported as
compiled and isn't read.
- script.check (engine, a query) takes path, data or dataBase64. With a
path and includes: true, it reads the files the #include lines name
from inside the script's folder, through the automation read root,
and when the script or one of those files assigns a member chain or a
File object to a variable, the check treats the variable as holding
it in every file. It doesn't follow absolute names, names, folders or
links that lead out of the folder, names or folders longer than 4,096
bytes, or JSINCLUDE, and it reads only regular files.
- ui.checkScript shows the report (dialog scriptCheck). File › Open
lists Scripts (.jsx, .jsxinc, .jsxbin) and sends a script's path to
script.check, which reads at most 8 MiB of it.
The language rules come from ECMA-262 3rd edition and ECMA-357 2nd
edition. The directive, platform and document-model root names come
from the public JavaScript Tools Guide and scripting guide pages that
catalog.rs cites by URL, and executeMenuCommand, doScript, loadAction,
unloadAction and selectTool come from the public forum posts cited
there; only names are used. Every script in the tests is written from
scratch with invented names.

The font scan read /usr/share/fonts, /usr/local/share/fonts, ~/.fonts and the
XDG data folders. Packages add folders outside those to fontconfig's
configuration (TeX Gyre under /usr/share/texmf/fonts), so fc-list and other
apps showed fonts VectorCraft didn't have. The scan now also reads the <dir>
folders of /etc/fonts/fonts.conf and the files it includes (conf.d, the user's
own), as the fontconfig documentation describes them. The files are read as
they are: no library is linked and no program is run.
An image whose decode needs more than the 2 GiB allowance (512 MB on the web) is not drawn.
A raster export says so since #1517; on screen it was still blank with no word. Open and
Place now carry a warning for it, and the Links panel's row a note (links.list: note).
Paste read PDF only from the Windows clipboard and EPS nowhere, so on macOS a copied
equation or drawing pasted nothing new (the last thing copied in the app came back).
- macOS: the pasteboard's PDF, EPS and SVG are read, ahead of text and bitmaps.
- Windows: EPS is read beside PDF.
- Everywhere: an .eps file copied in a file manager pastes.
- clipboard.importEps loads an EPS into the clipboard as document.open reads one.
The public 3D and Materials panel options list Depth, Twist, Taper and Cap
for every 3D type; Inflate had only Depth.
- Twist (0° to 360°) and Taper (1–100 %) turn and scale the back about the
shape's centre, as Extrude & Bevel's do: a puffed back is turned and
lowered in proportion, and the sides follow in slices.
- Cap: Solid closes the back; Hollow leaves it off, so the inflated front is
a shell open behind. The documentation doesn't say what Cap means for
Inflate; this reading is stated in docs/three-d.md.
- The dialog's Object tab shows them in the documented order (Depth, Twist,
Taper, Cap), then Volume and Both sides.
At 0 % volume a twisted, tapered Inflate has the extrusion's outline from
every side (tested).
A twisted, tapered, hollow Inflate draws on the canvas exactly as it
exports, and expands to faces with their own ids (tested). ROADMAP and the
parity pages list the new options; the 3D score stays at ~25 %.
The public 3D and Materials panel options give Twist as up to 360°; it took
-360° to 360°. Values beyond either end now hold at that end (the effect is
a day old, so only fresh files carry a negative twist).
text.create, text.createInPath, text.setText and text.setStyle answer with
overflow: [id…] for the area type and type on a path whose text doesn't fit (left
out when all fits), and MCP add_text with overflow: true. add_text takes area
type's fit and fitMinPercent.
The three 3D types besides Revolve, as live effects in the three-d crate,
drawn as shaded vector faces by the canvas, SVG/PDF export and Expand
Appearance alike, from the public 3D and Materials documentation:
- Extrude & Bevel: depth (0-2000 pt), twist, taper, solid or hollow caps,
and bevels in six original cross-sections (classic, rounded, cove, step,
ogee) with width, height, repeat, spacing, inside and both sides.
- Inflate: the shape as a membrane under pressure (a Poisson solve held at
zero along the outline and holes), so it rises vertically from the edge
and rounds without creases; volume, depth and both sides. Steep cells
near the outline are refined without cracks.
- Rotate: every fill and stroke turned in 3D and shaded as one plane.
All three share Revolve's view and lighting parameters, the rotation and
light gizmos (turning about the art's centre) and a dialog with Object,
Rotation and Lighting tabs, with Position presets (Front ... Isometric
Bottom, our own values). An object takes one 3D effect. Inflate cuts the
grid cells that straddle a hole's edge with pathops, hence the new
pathops -> three-d layer order.
Docs: docs/three-d.md, mcp.md, and the 3D rows of the parity docs.
With Double Click To Isolate on, the Selection tool isolated groups only. A
double-click on a single path, compound path, image, mesh or placed file now
isolates it too, as the public documentation describes. Type still switches to
the Type tool; blends, envelopes, repeats and symbol instances keep their own
editing modes.
While a single object is isolated only it is hit, marqueed and taken by Select
All, new art goes beside it in its group or layer, and a double-click on the
empty canvas leaves with it selected. object.isolate accepts any object except
type.
A PDF-compatible .ai opens on its trim boxes, its editor's artboards,
with the bleed boxes round them as the document's bleed (#1349). A PDF
saved with its editing data (#1345) keeps that data under
AIPDFPrivateData keys, which has_illustrator_data didn't look for, so
such a PDF with a bleed still opened on its crop box: the artboard took
the bleed in and the editing data was refused as being for a different
page. has_illustrator_data now finds either key. has_private_data, which
also decides how a page is clipped, is unchanged.
Test: a_file_with_a_bleed_opens_on_its_artboard_with_the_bleed_round_it
(the .ai case, and the same hand-written file with AIPDFPrivateData).
Preferences › Appearance of Black › On Screen was stored and never read.
Display All Blacks Accurately (the default) shows pure CMYK black, black
ink alone at 100%, through the working CMYK profile, a dark grey, as the
canvas always did. Display All Blacks as Rich Black now shows it on the
canvas as RGB black: fills, strokes, type, gradient stops, effect colours
and pattern tiles, and in CMYK documents drawn by ink planes a pixel
whose inks come out as black ink alone. Rich blacks, black tints and
placed images show the same either way; exports and printing are
unchanged (Printing / Exporting is a separate option).
The renderer gets RenderOptions::rich_black, painted with a new
Ink::RichBlack (screen colours with pure black as RGB black) and applied
by ink::compose. The canvas sets it from blackOnScreen and keeps it in
its cache key, so changing the preference redraws.
A headless frame test reads the canvas raster: K100 shows its profile
grey by default, RGB black with rich, a rich black unchanged, and grey
again with accurate. A render test covers the opaque and ink-plane paths
and checks that rich blacks, tints and images don't change.

With anchors of one path direct-selected and another object selected
whole, the arrow keys (object.nudge), path.moveAnchors and a Direct
Selection drag of the selected anchors moved that object without its
pattern tiles, whatever General › Transform Pattern Tiles was set to.
When the same object was selected on its own, the arrow keys and a
Direct Selection drag followed the preference. path.moveAnchors left
the tiles in place in that case too.
path.moveAnchors now follows the preference for the objects it moves
whole, as the transforms, Align and Distribute do. path.moveAnchors
and object.nudge also take a `patterns` param for one call. When those
objects use a pattern, the journal records the choice, and a recorded
action plays back with it. Partly selected paths still move only their
selected anchors.
Docs: docs/mcp.md (transformPatternTiles), docs/target-app-parity.md.
These commands moved selected objects into a hidden or locked layer,
or hid them, and left them selected, with the key object still set
when it was one of them:
- a row dragged into a hidden layer or group (layer.move);
- node.move into a hidden or locked layer or group;
- Merge Selected into a hidden or locked layer;
- Flatten Artwork into a locked layer;
- Collect in New Layer, when the topmost row it collects is in a
hidden or locked layer;
- applying a data set that hides bound objects (dataset.select,
dataset.next, dataset.prev).
They now call Selection::deselect_uneditable after the change, as
layer.setProps, layer.hideOthers and layer.lockOthers do. Every
selected object left hidden or locked is deselected, and the key
object is cleared when it is one of them. Undo restores the objects
and selects them again with the key object. A row drag into a hidden
layer and node.move into a hidden or locked layer still succeed. The
params text of layer.move, node.move, layer.merge, layer.flatten,
layer.collectInNew and dataset.select describes the deselection.
The Layers panel section of docs/mcp.md said that node.move has the
same rules as layer.move; it now says that node.move also moves a row
into a locked layer or group, which layer.move refuses.

A PDF saved with the reference app's editing data keeps that data in
streams named AIPDFPrivateData1, AIPDFPrivateData2, ..., where a .ai
file uses AIPrivateData1, AIPrivateData2, .... illustrator_data read
only the .ai names, so such a PDF opened like any other PDF: plain
groups opened ungrouped, and hidden objects and guides were missing. The
import gave no warning that the PDF's editing data went unread.
illustrator_data now reads the AIPDFPrivateData streams when the file
has no AIPrivateData1, and the PDF opens from its editing data as a .ai
file does. editingData: false still opens it like any other PDF.
has_private_data still looks for AIPrivateData keys only.
layered_ai also returns whether it read the layers. When it did, art
reaching past a PDF's page opens whole, and through_editing_data drops
the PDF importer's note that such art was clipped (PAST_PAGE_NOTE, now
public) as it drops the off-artboard note. When it didn't, both notes
stay. On main, a .ai whose editing data can't be decoded or has no
layers opened from its PDF part without the off-artboard note.
testkit::ai::pdf writes the .ai file of testkit::ai::ai with the PDF
key names. The editing-data tests open it as a PDF, and the import fuzz
test opens the damaged sample as a PDF too.
Docs: the document.open params, docs/mcp.md,
docs/file-format-parity.md, docs/gaps.md (G9: the export direction of
#868 remains), one evidence line in docs/target-app-parity.md, and #868
moved from layer structure to editing data in the File formats row of
docs/target-app-parity.md and in docs/roadmap.md.
A PDF-compatible .ai with a bleed writes its PDF part's page as the
artboard grown by the bleed: the crop box takes the bleed in, the trim
box is the artboard and the bleed box the bleed. The importer made the
crop box the artboard, so the bleed opened as more white page with no
bleed guide; and since the editing data's artboard no longer matched
that page, its layers weren't read either ("its editing data is for a
different page").
Opening a PDF-compatible .ai with the crop box (the default) now takes
its trim boxes as the artboards. Any import on the trim boxes (Crop To
› Trim, for a PDF too) sets the document's bleed to how far the bleed
boxes reach past them on each side (ISO 32000-1, 14.11.2), kept to
0–72 pt, and the document read from the editing data keeps it. Art in
the bleed shows outside the artboard, within the bleed guide. Plain
PDFs still open on their crop box by default, and Place is unchanged.

Select All, All on Active Artboard and Inverse select from selectable:
the visible, unlocked objects on visible, unlocked, non-template
layers and sublayers, or in isolation mode the visible, unlocked
objects in the isolated group or layer and in its visible, unlocked,
non-template sublayers. Other Select menu commands did not use it:
- Clipping Masks, All Text Objects, Stray Points and Open Paths
selected hidden and locked objects and the objects in hidden or
locked groups and sublayers.
- Point Text Objects, Area Text Objects, Brush Strokes, Bristle Brush
Strokes and the Same commands for symbols, fonts and text colors
checked an object's own flags and its layer's, but not those of the
groups and sublayers between them.
- Next Object Above and Below selected the object beside the selected
one even when it was hidden, locked or a sublayer.
- A saved selection picked from the Select menu selected again the
objects hidden or locked since it was saved.
- Direction Handles direct-selected the hidden and locked paths in a
selected group.
- In isolation mode, the commands in the first two bullets, the other
Same commands, All on Same Layers and a recalled saved selection
selected art outside the isolated group or layer. Next Object Above
and Below and Direction Handles did so only when the selection
already held something that was not inside the isolated group or
layer.
In isolation mode selectable checked the flags of the isolated group's
or layer's objects and sublayers, but not those of the group or layer
itself or of the groups and layers it is in. Select All, All on Active
Artboard and Inverse still selected the isolated group's or layer's
objects after it, or a group or layer it is in, was hidden or locked.
In isolation mode selectable now returns nothing while the isolated
group or layer, or a group or layer it is in, is hidden, locked or a
template layer. walk_selectable visits the objects selectable returns
and the objects inside them, leaving out hidden and locked objects
with what they hold. It visits nothing in a hidden, locked or template
layer, sublayer or group. The commands in the bullets above now select
from it. All on Same Layers takes the objects on the selected objects'
layers that selectable returns. Next Object Above and Below pass over
the objects walk_selectable leaves out, and leave the selection as it
is when none is left in that direction.
The params texts of Direction Handles and Recall Selection,
docs/mcp.md (Object selection, Saved selections) and one line in the
evidence list of docs/target-app-parity.md describe the change.
Each tool switch builds a new tool, and a new Artboard tool started on
Artboard 1 whatever artboard was active. With Artboard 2 active, after
the tool was chosen with Shift+O, its toolbar button, Edit Artboards in
Properties or Document Setup, or the Artboards panel menu's Artboard
Options…, the canvas outlined Artboard 1, and Delete, Cut, Copy, the
Transform panel and Artboard Options acted on Artboard 1. The first
pointer event over the canvas, a hover included, then made Artboard 1
the active artboard for Align to Artboard and Paste in Place too.
VectorcraftApp::select_tool now starts a newly chosen Artboard tool on
the active artboard, as the Artboards panel row's Options button does.
Choosing the tool again while it is in use leaves it as it was, and the
artboards Shift-clicked into its selection stay selected.
The test makes Artboard 2 active, chooses the tool with tool.select,
and checks the tool's active option, Artboard Options, a hover over
Artboard 1 and Delete. It then presses Shift+O with two artboards
selected and checks that both stay selected.

Find in Folder… in Linked File Not Found and in the Links panel menu
looks in a folder the user picks, and in its subfolders, for the files
with the names of missing linked files, in any letter case. In the
Links panel menu it looks for the selected linked files when there are
any. It uses the folder search of the Missing Fonts dialog. Find
Linked Files lists each file it looks for with the files found for it.
A file with the size and contents saved with the link comes first. A
file of the saved size comes next when the link saved no hash or the
file is larger than 1 GB, and any other file of the name comes last.
Within each group, a file named in the same letter case comes first.
Then each file's folder names are compared with the saved path's, from
the innermost outward, up to the first one that differs, and a file
with more matching names comes before one with fewer. A file is chosen
when it is the only file found, or the only one with the saved
contents, and the user can choose another file or Don't Relink.
Relink relinks each file chosen, and each relink is one undo step.
With Copy into the document's folder, which shows for a saved
document, each image's file is copied next to the document first. The
file's name, then Name 2.png, Name 3.png and so on, are tried in turn
until one is free, which gets the copy, or is a file with the same
contents, which is used. A placed document is relinked where its file
is. The status line names the first file that fails to relink, and the
other files still relink. When Find Linked Files opens from Linked
File Not Found, the missing files left without a choice, and any that
fail to relink, go back to that dialog. On the web, Find in Folder… is
disabled in the Links panel menu, and links.findFiles can't start a
search.
- links.findFiles searches on separate threads and returns at once;
links.findFiles {} reports the search, and {stop: true} stops it. It
looks for at most 1,000 linked files at once: the active document's
missing ones, or those of the objects it is given. It hashes a file
only when a link of its name saved the file's size and a hash, and
only when the file is 1 GB or smaller. It ends once every linked
file has its same file, and it searches only the folders
text.findFontFiles may search, with the same maxSeconds, depth and
count limits.
- links.relink {copy} copies the file it is given into the saved
document's folder and links images to the copy; a call that includes
a placed document fails. Each name it writes is checked against the
automation write root. text.addFontFiles and links.relink {copy}
make their copies with fileio::copy_new, which never replaces a
file. The text.addFontFiles params text and docs/mcp.md say which
names are tried for a copy.
- vectorcraft-doc adds links::hash_reader, which hashes what a reader
reads as hash_bytes hashes bytes.
- ui.findLinksInFolder is the Links panel's Find in Folder… for agents;
docs/control-protocol.md lists the dialog's fields.

Transform Again kept only the last transform's matrix and its Copy
flag. After a Selection tool handle drag resized area type, Transform
Again scaled the type instead of resizing the type area again. After
Move, Rotate, Scale, Reflect or Shear with Transform Patterns set
differently from General › Transform Pattern Tiles, Transform Again
followed the preference, and after a scale whose strokes or corners
param differed from Scale Strokes & Effects or Scale Corners, it
followed those preferences. A recorded Transform Again played back
with the preferences in effect at playback, although its step records
the strokes, corners and patterns values it used.
last_transform now keeps the options with the matrix, as
last_perspective keeps the perspective.transform params.
apply_transform stores the copy, typeAreas and patterns values a
transform command used, and strokes and corners when it scales.
commit_interaction stores the params of a drag's last object.transform
preview with the values that preview noted. object.transformAgain
passes the options to the transform it repeats, and a true or false
value given in its own params under one of those names takes
precedence. A recorded step plays back with the values it records.
Three engine tests fail without the change: Transform Again after a
handle drag on area type, Transform Again after a Move with patterns:
false while Transform Pattern Tiles is on and after a Scale with
strokes: true while Scale Strokes & Effects is off, and a recorded
Transform Again played back with Transform Pattern Tiles on.
