A cancel that came after the last file's check was not seen: an export
without a folder returned its files or its archive anyway. The export now
checks once more after the last file and again after deflating the
archive, so a cancel returns the cancelled error and nothing is written
or returned.
zip::deflate takes a `stop` callback that it calls before each 1 MiB of
a file. Export for Screens passes the cancel state, so deflating stops
at the next MiB. file.package passes one that never stops, so its
behavior does not change.
With `zip: true`, document.exportForScreens deflated nothing: every file
went into the archive stored. Each file is now deflated, or stored when
deflating does not make it smaller, as file.package's archive does. The
file list, the names and the reply's fields stay the same; `bytes` and
the archive's contents change. Entries keep the fixed 1980-01-01 date, so
the same files still give the same archive.
The deflating writer moves from package.rs into fileio/zip.rs as
`zip::deflate`, beside `zip::store`, and file.package calls it there with
its own date and error text. The test reader `zip::entries` reads
deflated entries too. The `zip` option's text in docs/mcp.md,
docs/control-protocol.md and the command's params says the files are
deflated.
Use function paths where a closure only forwarded its argument
(PoisonError::into_inner, OsStr::to_str, FindRange::is_empty), and drop
redundant 'static on associated and module consts. No behaviour change.
With Copy Links on and Copy Fonts off, File › Package still read every
placed PDF or .ai page to find the fonts of its type, and then dropped
them. With Copy Links on and Relink off, it still read the preview and
the PDF of each placed .vectorcraft document, which only the rewritten
copy uses.
Package now reads the placed pages for their fonts only with Copy Fonts
on, and it reads the preview and the PDF only with Relink on. With Copy
Fonts off, packaging a document that places the 60 pages of a PDF took
about 390 ms in a release build and now takes about 20 ms. The package
it writes is the same.
A PDF or .ai page placed linked is a placed document, and File ›
Package listed only the fonts of the document's own type, so the fonts
of the page's type were left out of Fonts/ where an embedded page's
were copied. Package now reads each linked page a document places and
adds the fonts of its type, also when another document placing the same
file copied it first, and also with copyLinks off.
The File Handling preference Link Placed PDF and .ai Files
(linkPlacedPdf) is removed. File › Place with Link now places a page of
a PDF, .ai or .ait file read as PDF pages as a linked placed document,
as it links a raster image, and link: false embeds the page. Link is on
by default in the Place dialog and in file.place, so a PDF or .ai page
placed from a file, which used to be embedded, is now linked unless
Link is off. A password or textAs: "outlines" still embeds, and so do
EPS and PostScript .ai files.
The Place dialog's Link tooltip describes a PDF or .ai file as a
document.
A .ai file read from its editing data (its PDF part only a placeholder)
finds the files its art places by name, beside it. Package now copies
those files into the same folder as the .ai file, and warns when one has
to be copied under another name.
File › Place with Link kept a link only to raster images and VectorCraft
documents. A PDF, .ai or .ait page was always embedded as a group, so
Update Links never saw a newer version of the file.
A new preference, File Handling › Link Placed PDF and .ai Files
(linkPlacedPdf), is off by default. With it on, Link places the page as
a placed document, as it places a VectorCraft document: the object
keeps the file's bytes, a preview, the page number and the page's box
(crop, art, trim, bleed or media, stored as page_box). Links check,
update and relink it, Break Link and Object › Expand give the group
placing it without Link gives, every output draws the page's vectors,
and saving and reopening keep the link. With the preference off, or
with a password or textAs: "outlines", the page is embedded as before.
EPS and PostScript .ai files are still embedded.
Package copies a placed PDF or .ai file as it is. The Place dialog's
Link tooltip describes a PDF or .ai file as a document while the
preference is on. Relinking a placed document to a file that is not a
VectorCraft document, a PDF or a PDF-compatible .ai file says so.
Docs: docs/mcp.md, docs/target-app-parity.md.
File › Package… read every linked file and font and wrote the package
on the UI thread, so the window stopped responding until the package
was written. For a document that links 50 images of 21 MB each, OK
with Background Export off, which does the same work, takes a median
of 2.25 s in a release build on Windows.
With Enable Background Export on (Preferences › File Handling), OK now
takes the options, the report's Document Info text and a snapshot of
the document, and closes the dialog. The thread that writes background
saves and exports then collects the links and fonts and writes the
package. The same OK takes 0.001 s, and the package holds the same
bytes. A save of unsaved changes that Package starts is written first.
With the preference off, on the web and over MCP and scripts, the
package is made at once with the same reply as before.

PNG, PDF, EPS, legacy `.ai`, packaged zips and saved `.vectorcraft` files
record the wall-clock time they were made in, so the same commands run twice
gave different bytes although the pixels matched (#2880):
PDF /CreationDate and /ModDate D:20261018155816 vs D:20261018155817
PNG the `Creation Time` tEXt entry
.vectorcraft one byte of the stored date
SVG carries no time, and already repeated
`metadata::output_time` is the time a file records: `SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH` when it
holds a non-negative whole number of seconds, else the clock, as the
reproducible-builds specification defines it. A date a command is given
(`file.new {created}`, a save's `modified`) still wins over the variable, and a
blank, negative or non-numeric value is ignored so that an export is never
refused over the environment.
`metadata::now_unix` keeps the real clock and now has exactly two callers, both
of which must not be pinnable from the environment: the recovery heartbeat, and
the seed PDF encryption draws on.
The report kept a placed document's LINKED FILES and FONTS inside its parent's list. Each document
now gets its own sections, the packaged one first and unchanged (no Document: line), then each
placed document's, headed by its file. Drops a debug_assert and an unneeded mut, runs rustfmt, and
documents the nested packaging in docs/mcp.md and the ROADMAP.

package.rs: the collector takes main's font lookup (fonts found by any of their names, in the
version the type names, a missing style shown in its closest one, files named by packaged_name).

When a document opens with fonts that aren't available, fonts used
only in its symbols included, VectorCraft lists them in a Missing
Fonts dialog after the missing linked file questions, one document at
a time, with Find Fonts and Close. Find Fonts opens Type › Find Font
on the first missing font of the layers' type, to replace it. After
Find Fonts or Close the dialog doesn't open again for that open; when
another dialog replaces it, it opens again once that dialog closes.
Search Fonts Folder (the Fonts folder File › Package writes next to
the document) and Find in Folder… search a folder and its subfolders
for the fonts' files, and Add Fonts copies the files the user chooses
into a Fonts folder next to the preferences. The desktop app and
vectorcraft-cli read that folder with the system's font folders. Type
› Find Font has a Find in Folder… button too when fonts the document
uses are missing. The web app shows no dialog; a status message says
how many fonts aren't available.
- text.missingFonts lists each missing family and style once,
whatever version the document's type names, and leaves out CSS
generic families such as sans-serif. text.findFontFiles searches a
folder on up to 8 threads and returns at once; text.findFontFiles {}
reports the search, and {stop: true} stops it. A search reads only
what the font scan reads of font files (their table directories and
name, fvar and OS/2 tables) and, on macOS, of suitcase fonts, and
lists a file for a font only when the file makes the font resolve
exactly. It does not enter app packages, the Program Files and
ProgramData folders, the system's folders at the root of a volume,
the Shared and Public folders in Users, a home folder's Library,
AppData, Applications, snap and dot folders, a Library folder's app
data folders or the folders the environment names for apps, and it
skips other hidden folders and does not follow links below the
picked folder. It ends after 60 s by default, after 10,000,000
entries listed, with more than 1,000,000 folders waiting, after
10,000 font files read or 1,000 kept, or once every font has a file;
Stop and Close end it too.
- text.addFontFiles copies only files the last search found. Of
those, it copies only regular .ttf, .otf, .ttc, .otc, .woff and
.woff2 files and suitcase fonts with their resource fork, at most
256 MB a file and 1 GB in all. It never replaces a file: a file with
the same contents is kept, and when another file has that name, the
copy gets a number (Name 2.otf). The fonts are then scanned again,
and type set in them redraws.
- ui.missingFontsDialog and ui.findFontsInFolder open the dialog for
agents; docs/control-protocol.md lists its fields.
- File › Package gives a font file whose name has no font extension
the extension that matches its data (.ttf, .otf or .ttc).
- vectorcraft-text adds set_app_font_dir, which system_font_dirs
reads, WantedFonts, which reads a font file's names as the font scan
does, is_font_file and is_suitcase. #762 split its face reader, which
now takes read budgets: file_face_names_within tries the suitcase
reader first, and reader_face_names_within applies the budgets to
each font. vectorcraft-format adds write_new_with.

swatch.library.copyToUser {library} copies a library loaded from
another folder into the user library folder of the desktop app. A
.vcswatches, .gpl or .ase file is copied as it is; the swatches of a
document and a library loaded from the data or dataBase64 parameter are
written as a .vcswatches file. The copy gets a name that no file in the
folder has, and when a file with the same extension and bytes is
already there, that file is used. The library is then listed as User
Defined only. Until the app quits, commands given its loaded id use the
copy, unless another library is loaded under that id. Without a user
library folder (the web and headless sessions) the command is disabled.
A file with the same extension and bytes as a User Defined library
opens as that User Defined library. The unchanged original of a copied
.ase file is one such file. Graphic style libraries open the same way.
A font library can hold two versions of one family and style (a new
Montserrat-Bold.ttf beside an old montserrat.ttf). The font database kept
only the first one loaded, so type set in the other couldn't be matched
when a PDF or .ai was opened: it came in as outlines. Now every version
loads (the first stays the one family and style resolve to), PDF import
tries the other versions when the glyphs differ, and type set in a version
the family and style alone wouldn't pick names it in CharStyle::font_version
(left out when None, so documents without it are unchanged). Layout,
shaping, the substituted-glyph highlight, Find Font, Package and Document
Info follow it; changing the font clears it.

File › Package and Document Info › Font Details looked fonts up with
FontDb::face and compared the face's family with the name the document
stores. A font a document named by another of its names (a PostScript
or localized name, as SVG and PDF files do) was reported as not
available and left out of the package, although the canvas drew it and
exports embedded it.
- Package and Font Details resolve fonts with FontDb::resolve, as
text.fonts and the renderer do. A style the family lacks is still
copied as its closest style; the report now names the style it
copies, and Font Details lists the font as substituted, with that
style's file and permission.
- FontFace::embeddable reads fsType as exports do (Embedding), so fonts
that allow bitmap embedding only (bit 9), or that set the restricted
bit together with reserved bit 0 (0x0003), are no longer copied.
Document Info's permission labels follow the same rule: when a font
sets more than one usage bit, the label names the most permissive
one.
- The Package dialog and its status line name the fonts it didn't copy.
Opening a PDF whose fonts aren't installed keeps the text live in the fallback font (as
Illustrator substitutes and highlights missing fonts), and opening said so, but every export
then wrote the fallback font silently ("warnings": []), so a headless convert re-set the type
without a word.
- Exports that draw type now say so in their warnings, naming the missing families and the
fallback font: PDF (outlined or real text, also .ai and Save As), EPS, EMF/WMF, raster images
and SVG with outlined or embedded fonts. Live SVG text, DXF, text and native files name the
font itself and don't warn. Replacing the font (Find Font) clears it.
- The fonts a document uses (text.fonts' scope, Package's font list) come from one helper.
- textAs: outlines already keeps the glyphs the PDF draws (its embedded font program, installed
or not): now covered by a test with an embedded serif font that isn't installed, checked
against the installed font's and the fallback's outlines.
- docs/mcp.md and ROADMAP describe the warning.

File > Package (saved documents; unsaved changes are saved first) writes
<folder>/<name>/<document>.vectorcraft, the linked files in Links/ (relinked in the
packaged copy), the fonts its type uses in Fonts/ (leaving out fonts whose licence
doesn't allow embedding) and <document> Report.txt, then offers Show Package. Without a
folder (the web, agents) the same files come back as a zip.
Document Info's flyout picks one category (document, objects, styles, spot colours,
patterns, gradients, symbols, fonts, font details, linked and embedded images) and Save…
writes the text report Package shares.
Engine: file.package {folder?, name?, copyLinks?, linksFolder?, relink?, copyFonts?,
report?}; document.info gains category, format: text and sections. Text: FontFace
path, fs_type and embeddable. UI: ui.packageDialog (dialog `package`), file.showPackage,
docInfo.save.
