bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 8e3dbd5369 Part of #394: Preferences for snapping, handles, rubber bands, pattern tiles, tints and type
Fourteen more Preferences options that were stored but read by nothing now
act, for the mouse and for agents (prefs.set, then pointer_gesture,
press_key or the commands):

- Selection & Anchor Display: Snap to Point and its distance (with Smart
Guides off, View > Snap to Point lands a dragged selection's grabbed
  point, drawn points and reference points on anchors and ruler guides);
Move Locked and Hidden Artwork with Artboard (artboard.move, the Artboard
tool and Rearrange; off, hidden art now stays too); Enable Rubber Band for
  the Pen and Curvature tools; Handles (solid, hollow, large);
Show handles when multiple anchors are selected (canvas and Direct
Selection's handle picking); Hide Corner Widget for angles greater than.
- General: Transform Pattern Tiles is the default of a new `patterns`
  param on object.transform/move/rotate/scale/reflect/shear/transformEach
(journalled when the art uses a pattern), and the transform dialogs get a
Transform Patterns checkbox; Select Same Tint % (off, Select > Same
Fill/Stroke Color takes every tint of a global or spot swatch).
- Type: new type.step {attribute, by} steps size, leading, tracking, kerning
and baseline shift by the Size/Leading, Tracking and Baseline Shift
  increments; Increase/Decrease Font Size (Cmd+Shift+. and Cmd+Shift+,);
the Type tool's Alt+arrows (kerning at a caret or tracking, leading,
Shift for baseline shift, Cmd/Ctrl for five steps). Enable Missing Glyph
Protection keeps characters a new font lacks in the font that had them
(text.setStyle, text.setRangeStyle). Fill New Type Objects With
Placeholder Text: type the Type tools place starts with placeholder text,
  selected (text.create / text.createInPath take `placeholder`).

Units > General, Stroke and Type were already the single source of truth
(units.rs). Auto Size New Area Type, Show Font Names in English and
Highlight Alternate Glyphs need subsystems the app doesn't have yet and
stay open with the rest of #394.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 9a5429a325 MCP: inspect_document slices too, stricter find filters (review of #416)
- The inspect_document tool (and the control channel's document.inspect)
take {depth?, childLimit?}, so MCP clients get the skeleton without
going through run_command; the tool description points at the
  drill-down path.
- document.find rejects a filter of the wrong type instead of dropping
it (which widened the search); one opt_u64 helper parses limit, depth
  and childLimit.
- docs/mcp.md spells out find's matching rules; control-protocol.md
and ROADMAP updated; MCP and engine tests cover the new paths.

Fahri Meral e278ccf44d MCP: skeleton reads and find for large documents
document.inspect takes the same {depth?, childLimit?} slicing as
document.node (a depth-0 read is the layer skeleton), and document.find
{name?|kind?|text?, limit?} locates nodes across the tree with their
ancestor paths and a total. docs/mcp.md documents the drill-down recipe;
the CLI stdio sweep covers both.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 2f710d3acc Fix #414: select, move and delete ruler guides with the selection tools
Guides dragged out of the rulers could not be touched again: no tool hit-tested
them, so a click on a guide went to the art under it.

- The Selection, Direct Selection and Group Selection tools pick a ruler guide
within the selection tolerance (over the art; Direct Selection takes an
anchor on it first) through a shared tools::rulerguide::GuideEdit. A drag
moves the selected guides in one undo step (Alt copies them, Shift snaps the
dragged one to the ruler's ticks, otherwise it snaps to pixels, the grid or,
with Smart Guides, the art's edges, centres and anchors); dropped off the
canvas onto its ruler, the guide is deleted. Hidden or locked guides can't be
picked; the pointer shows which way a guide moves.
- Selection::guides holds the selected guides (on their own, like slices); the
canvas draws them in the selection colour. Delete/Backspace (edit.clear)
delete them, the arrow keys (object.nudge) nudge them, Lock Guides and Hide
  Guides deselect them.
- Commands for agents: guide.list, guide.select {indexes, toggle?},
  guide.move {dx?, dy?, copy?} (besides {index, pos}) and guide.remove {index?};
guide positions out of range are refused. Documented in docs/mcp.md.
- Shift while dragging a new guide out of a ruler snaps it to the ticks too
(Unit::ruler_step, shared with the rulers' drawing).

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 526fc2e157 MCP: reject document.node slices without summary, document and sweep them (review of #405)
`depth` / `childLimit` without `summary: true` used to return the whole
full-JSON subtree silently; it is now an invalid-params error. docs/mcp.md
describes the slice parameters and childCount, the engine test covers
fractional values, unsliced reads and limits past the tree, and the CLI
stdio sweep reads a sliced group through run_command.

imachusandClaude Opus 5.5 66fa0a998a Type: input method composition (Japanese IME) in the Type tool
Typing with an input method (the macOS Japanese IME and the like) used to
insert the raw keys (romaji came in as ASCII): egui's Ime events weren't
handled.

- Tools gain `ime_preedit` / `composing` / `ime_caret`; the Type tool lays
the marked text out in place inside its typing session, underlined (the
clause being converted thicker), and commits it through `text_input`.
Character ranges from the IME convert to byte ranges in one place. A
cancelled composition leaves no empty undo step; an empty clear with
nothing marked never deletes the selection.
- The UI sends Text and Ime events to the tool in order, sends IMEOutput
every frame while text is edited (what lets egui-winit enable the IME
and place its candidate window at the caret, or the converting clause),
and holds back keys, Enter/Escape, clipboard, single-key shortcuts and
menu commands (Undo, Cut, Select All… also from the native menu) while
composing. A click, a tool switch or a style change ends the
composition with the marked text kept as typed; on macOS the IME is
told to discard it (NSTextInputContext.discardMarkedText) so it doesn't
come back in the next input.
- Undo during a typing session also ends the Type tool's session, so its
caret and marked text follow the document.
- Tests: tools (char → byte ranges, underlines and candidate position),
engine (compose → commit is one step, cancel leaves no step, a click
commits, Undo mid-composition is safe), ui-egui (synthetic Ime events:
compose, commit, ⌘Z held back, IME output, click and app switch).

Checked by hand on macOS 27 with the Japanese IME (romaji input, convert,
commit, cancel, Undo/Redo after commit, click away, Latin mode, app
switch). Not checked: Windows and Linux IMEs, the web build.

theironchefandClaude Opus 5.5 2076f82b47 Edit: Undo during typing or a drag takes back only that, and Redo returns it
edit.undo cancelled an open interaction (rolling back the typing session
or drag preview without recording it) and then undid the step before it:
one Undo removed two steps, and the typing could not be redone. Undo now
commits the interaction first, so it is the step taken back and Redo can
restore it; commit_interaction does nothing when nothing is open or
nothing changed.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 d0d934bfda M14.7: Cmd/Ctrl+N opens the New Document dialog
The engine's file.new also claimed Cmd+N and engine commands win shortcut
lookups, so the shortcut made a blank document. file.newDialog now owns it,
as the docs already said; file.new stays the headless command.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 851ed15104 M4.55: a journal replay reproduces File Info's dates
File Info's dates come from the clock, so documents made or saved a second
apart differed: journal_replay_reproduces_document and
rich_fixture_satisfies_invariants_and_undoes_to_blank failed at random.
One approach for every clock-derived date: it is a command input that
defaults to now, and the journal records the value used.

- file.new takes created? and document.save / file.saveAs take modified?
(Unix seconds, or null for none; default now), through date_param /
clock_date on the one save path (save_with), so Save, Save As and the
UI's save stamp alike; Save a Copy still leaves the dates.
- Their journal entries always record the date used, so replaying the
journal makes the same document whenever it runs. Actions recorded from
the journal (Session::journal_for_action) leave those dates out, so
playing an action later dates the document then.
- Test fixtures date their documents fixtures::CREATED, and the MCP
property test dates its local document as the headless one, so
documents built at different moments compare equal.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 f346727dd8 M4.23: paste placement, Paste Remembers Layers and the Paste menu's enable rule
Paste (also without formatting) goes to the centre of the view
(edit.paste {center}); Paste in Front/Back with nothing selected go to
the top/bottom of the current layer, in order; Paste on All Artboards
keeps the objects' offset to the artboard they were copied from.
layer.pasteRemembersLayers {on?} (document flag paste_remembers_layers,
saved, document.inspect) pastes objects back into the layers they came
from by name, making missing ones; the Layers panel now has its menu
with the layer commands and the check item. The Paste menu items are
enabled while the system clipboard holds SVG (looked at once per frame
at most, a few times a second).

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 ee2aa96dcd M4.22: pasting between documents carries the objects' resources
Copy keeps the copied objects with every document resource they use
(Session.clipboard: Clipboard {nodes, images, symbols, patterns,
swatches, graphic_styles, char_styles, para_styles, brushes,
source_artboard, source_layers, source_doc}), following symbols,
patterns, graphic styles and text styles into what they use. Every
edit.paste* brings them in within its undo step: identical resources are
reused, missing ones added, different ones of the same name added
renamed (an earlier paste's copy is reused) and the pasted objects
relinked, graphic style links by id. Global and spot swatches that
conflict ask Merge or Add (swatchConflict; clipboard.conflicts lists
them; the app's Swatch Conflict dialog asks one by one, with Apply to
All). Tint swatches, linked gradient stops, Lab spots and the target's
Spot Colors option are honoured; [Registration] is never copied.
Clipboard SVG exports them too.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 6afcacbd91 M4.21: New Document with preset categories, details column and More Settings
File > New opens a New Document dialog in the reference app's layout:
category tabs (Recent, Saved, Mobile, Web, Print, Film & Video, Art &
Illustration, Branding, Social) over cards of presets generated in code
(page-proportioned thumbnail, neutral name, size with units), and a
Preset Details column: name with Save Preset, width with the units
dropdown, height, portrait/landscape toggles, artboards, linked bleed,
Background Contents with its chip, collapsible Advanced Options (colour
mode, raster effects, preview mode), More Settings, Close and Create.
More Settings is the classic form of the same fields (profile and size
lists, artboard layout buttons, spacing and columns, Templates...).
Choosing a preset fills the fields; editing one makes them custom.

file.new takes every setting (preset, name, orientation, artboards with
artboardLayout {layout, columns, spacing, rightToLeft}, bleed,
backgroundContents, colorMode, rasterEffectsPpi, previewMode; sizes may
carry units). file.newPresets lists the categories; file.newPresets.save
and .delete keep user presets in the preferences; Recent remembers the
last sizes. Print presets and plain sizes start in Preferences > Units >
General, screen presets in pixels. Rearrange All Artboards shares the
grid layout code. The Home screen shows the same preset cards.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 3b99df3b9a M14.5: Preferences > Units drive every length the UI shows and reads
The General unit is the active document's units: Preferences > Units >
General sets them (one undo step) and is the units new documents start
in (and the unit shown with no document open); Document Setup changes
only the document. The Transform panel, Properties, the Control bar, the
Info panel, rulers, the status bar, Align spacing, Tabs, paragraph
indents, Pattern Options, dialog distances (Move, shape sizes, path
dialogs, Artboard Options, effect distances, Transform Each, parameter
dialogs), New Document and the canvas measurement labels (smart-guide
sizes, moves, the Measure tool, the Live Corners radius) all follow it,
live. Units > Type drives font size, leading and baseline shift; Units >
Stroke also reaches the Appearance panel and the Magic Wand weight
tolerance. Typed units ("5 mm", "12 pt") work in any field; all ten
units are choices; length preferences show in their unit and accept a
unit; offset/simplify/grid/type-size params read typed units. Typed text
starting with a multi-byte character no longer panics the parser.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 f75d7628c7 M3.91: Object > Flatten Transparency turns transparent art into opaque art that looks the same
object.flattenTransparency {preset?|options, ids?} splits the targets into groups of overlapping
objects. Groups with transparency become atomic regions (faces of the arrangement of every fill,
outlined stroke and clipping path) filled with the colour the renderer composites there: blend
modes, group opacity, isolated and non-isolated groups, knockout groups and knockout shapes, over
white or (Preserve Alpha) over nothing. Regions reached by gradients, patterns, images, opacity
masks or raster effects are rendered into one image per group, under the regions, clipped to
them with Clip Complex Regions. The raster/vector balance rasterizes whole groups past its region
budget (all at 0). Options and presets live in FlattenOptions; single visible paints keep their
colour and overprint; text and strokes can be outlined everywhere. One undo step.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 f48ba26380 M3.32: the document colour mode governs new colours
A CMYK document (file.new {colorMode: "cmyk"}, Document::new_with_mode)
starts with CMYK default swatches (default_swatches(model)), and RGB
colours and gradient stops applied to it are stored as CMYK (Gray stays
Gray) unless paint.setFill/setStroke get keepModel; the Color panel keeps
the model picked on its sliders. RGB documents keep colours as given.
Harmonies and Color Guide variations keep the base colour's model, Recolor
Artwork the replaced colour's, and Edit Colors blends between models take
the document's, through a shared Color::in_model / keep_model.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 b117566fc2 M3.25: opacity-mask editing and transparency command reach
While a mask is edited, the Transparency panel and its commands act on the
masked object (Release leaves editing first). Mask commands and
transparency.set take ids and work without a selection; Make Opacity Mask
with one object adds an empty mask and enters editing. Opacity is 0..100 in
every command. transparency.info reports the panel's values with null for
mixed ones, shown blank. Saves and exports never include the editing layer
(Document::without_edit_modes; mask_edit is not serialized).
