path.create read closed only when it drew from anchors. Given path
data, {"d": "M0 0 L10 0 L10 10", "closed": "true"} drew the path and
recorded an undo step, while the same closed with anchors fails with
"`closed` must be true or false". shape.rectangularGrid and
shape.polarGrid read rows, columns, concentric and radial given as text
as the count left out, so {"rows": "3"} drew the default 5 horizontal
dividers instead of 3.
path.create now checks closed before it reads d or anchors, and the
grid commands refuse such a count with "`rows` must be a number, not
"3"". Neither command changes the document or its undo history then.
With d, a closed of true, false or null still leaves the path as its
path data draws it.
Docs: docs/mcp.md, docs/target-app-parity.md.
object.transformEach refused reflectX, reflectY, random and copy given
as text, but read strokes, corners, objects and patterns given as text
as the key left out. With Scale Strokes & Effects on,
{"scaleH": 200, "scaleV": 200, "strokes": "false"} scaled the stroke,
recorded an undo step and kept the params for Transform Again, which
repeated the call. artboard.rearrange, artboard.move and
artboard.duplicate read their patterns option the same way, and
artboard.setProps reads its patterns, strokes and corners options the
same way.
These commands now refuse such a value with "`<key>` must be true or
false" before they change anything. So do the other options and
numbers of artboard.setProps and artboard.move, the art of Duplicate,
Copy and Cut Artboard, the shape commands and path.create, path.close,
path.setHandle, path.moveAnchors, the Pencil, Curvature, Reshape
Segment and Blob Brush options, text.create, text.createInPath,
text.setRangeStyle, text.editRange, text.getRange, text.touchType,
text.areaOptions, type.step, the font size steps,
type.opticalMarginAlignment, type.systemLayout, type.fractionalWidths,
type.ruby, the symbol and swatch commands, the Appearance panel's
commands, the gradient and freeform gradient commands, Shape Builder,
Live Paint, Image Trace, the opacity of object.setProps, the radius,
sides and relativeRadii of object.setLiveShape, the reference point of
object.setBounds and the artboard of Align, Distribute and Distribute
Spacing. They refuse a number given as text with "`<key>` must be a
number, not <value>", and a gradient stop's tint with "stop <n>:
`tint` must be a number". A null still reads as the key left out.

Store corner radii as fractions of each corner's max so rounding scales with the shape; expose via Corners dialog and object.setLiveShape relativeRadii.

With View › Snap to Grid on, a whole object moved with the Selection,
Group Selection or Direct Selection tool landed on the grid by
whichever of its two edges or its center was nearest a gridline on
each axis. An object on the grid whose width is an odd number of grid
steps has its center half a step between gridlines, so a short drag
could pull it half a step off the grid: on a 20 pt grid, a 100 pt
square at (100, 100) dragged by (8, 8) moved by (10, 10).
A move now lands the nearer of the two edges on a gridline on each
axis, as the reference app's help describes, and the center no longer
snaps. The square above stays at (100, 100). This changes the rule #769
chose for #740. The plain move and the Shift-constrained one both use
grid_pull, so both change.
Docs: docs/target-app-parity.md (Drawing aids).
A click with the Selection tool does not select a hidden or locked
object, an object in a hidden or locked group or layer, or a guide path
while Lock Guides is on, but object.isolate isolated each of them. Once
a locked or hidden group, or a group on a locked or hidden layer, was
isolated, a Selection tool drag moved the member under the pointer. The
Layers panel's Enter Isolation Mode sent the same command for a locked
or hidden layer or group.
object.isolate now refuses a hidden or locked object, or one in a
hidden or locked group or layer, with "the object is hidden or locked"
(the text of layer.target), and a guide path while Lock Guides is on
with "guides are locked". Isolation mode stays off, and the selection
stays as it is.

Transform Each, Rasterize, Create Object Mosaic, Create Trim Marks and
Rearrange All Artboards read their optional numbers with f64_or, which
falls back to a default for a value that is not a JSON number.
object.transformEach {"scaleH": "50"} left the selected objects at
their size and reported success. Rasterize did the same with ppi,
Create Object Mosaic did the same with width, height, spacingX and
spacingY, Create Trim Marks did the same with offset, length, bleed and
weight, and Rearrange All Artboards did the same with spacing. Crop
Image cropped to the artboard when rect was a string or another value
that is not an array.
These commands now fail with "`<key>` must be a number, not <value>"
for a value that is not a number or null, as the transform commands
do, and change nothing. Transform Each checks scaleH, scaleV, moveH,
moveV and rotate. Crop Image refuses a rect that is not an array of
four numbers with "rect must be [x, y, width, height]", the message it
already gave for an array of the wrong length; a null rect crops to the
artboard, as a missing one does.
Docs: docs/mcp.md, docs/target-app-parity.md.
anchor_arc_distance measured every segment again for each anchor, so a reshape cost the square of the anchor count; path.reshape now measures the positions once, and the two helpers only it used are gone. The default radius stays half the subpath's bounding-box diagonal, now measured along the path: half its length reached the far corners of a square, moving art the grab is nowhere near (reshape_moves_the_grabbed_point_and_its_neighbourhood).
A move that Shift kept level, upright or on a diagonal left that line
when it snapped. With View › Snap to Grid on, a level Shift-drag also
moved the selection up or down onto a gridline, and Snap to Pixel,
Smart Guides and Snap to Point moved it off the line in the same way.
Each axis snapped on its own after Shift had constrained the move.
With the Selection tool, and with Group Selection and Direct Selection
moving whole objects, a Shift-constrained move now slides along its
line until it snaps. With Snap to Grid or Snap to Pixel, the move
slides along the line by the shorter of the two distances that put it
on a gridline or a whole pixel on either axis. The bounds line up with
the other objects, or space evenly with them, only on the axes the line
runs along, and the grabbed point stops where the line passes an anchor
or crosses a ruler guide. A level or upright move snaps along its own
axis only. Moves without Shift snap as before.

The History panel menu had no Clear History, and VectorCraft had no
command that removes the undo and redo steps. In the reference app,
Clear History in the History panel menu removes the states after the
selected state, and it removes the states before it while their
changes remain in the document.
edit.clearHistory (Clear History) removes every step to undo and to
redo in the active document and returns how many it removed. The
document and the selection stay as they are, and clearing is not an
undo step. Typing or a drag still in progress becomes a step first, as
Undo makes it one, so its change stays in the document. The command is
disabled when there is no step to clear, and it waits while an input
method composes, as Undo does.
The History panel menu has Clear History after Step Forward. It runs
the command and is disabled when there is no step to clear.
Docs: docs/mcp.md, docs/target-app-parity.md.
A bounding-box handle dragged with the Selection or Free Transform tool
snapped only with Smart Guides on, and then only to the other objects
and the artboards. View > Snap to Grid, Snap to Pixel, Snap to Point
with Smart Guides off and the ruler guides did not move it, while a
move snaps to all of them.
The corner or side a handle moves now snaps as a dragged point does.
With Snap to Grid on it lines up with the nearest gridline, and with
Snap to Pixel on it lines up with whole pixels. With Smart Guides off,
Snap to Point lands it on the other objects' anchors and on ruler
guides within its distance. With Smart Guides and Snap to Point both
on, it lines up with the ruler guides as well as with the other
objects. Shift still keeps the proportions. Without Alt the opposite
side stays put, and with Alt the box still scales about its center.

A click with the Group Selection tool on a compound path selects the path
under the pointer (its outline within the pick tolerance, else the innermost
path whose area holds the click), so the outer shape and each hole can be
selected on their own; Shift-click adds another, and a click on a selected
path adds the compound path, as a click on a group member climbs to its group.
A path selected this way is an object of its own for Move, Transform, Rotate
and the other transforms, as it already was inside an isolated compound path:
the hole of a ring moves without the ring. Paint and the other commands still
go to the compound path, which holds the paint.

object.createObjectMosaic read columns and rows with as_u64 and fell
back to 10 for anything else, so 2.5, -3 or "4" made a 10 x 10 mosaic
and reported success. Transform Each read reference and seed the same
way (a reference of 2.5 used the center point, and a seed of 7.5 used
the default seed), and Rearrange All Artboards cut 1.5 columns to 1
and read "1" as the default 2.
These five parameters now take a whole number, written 4 or 4.0 as the
Rearrange All Artboards dialog sends it. A fraction or a negative
number is refused with "`columns` must be a whole number", the message
object.slice.divide gives. A string or another value that is not a
number is refused with the check_numbers error. The command then
changes nothing. The existing ranges stay: 1 to 1000 mosaic tiles
across and down, a reference of at most 8, and 1 to the artboard
count of columns.
Docs: docs/mcp.md, docs/target-app-parity.md.
With a key object, the Align panel's six Distribute Objects buttons
ignored the Distribute Spacing value. They kept the outermost objects
in place, spaced the others evenly between them and could move the
key object.
object.distribute now takes spacing. While the selection has a key
object, the key object stays in place, with the compound path or
selected group that contains it, and the objects' left edges, centers
or right edges (top edges, centers or bottom edges) end up spacing
points apart, outward from the key object's, in their order on that
line. With 0, the field's default, every object ends on the key
object's line. Two objects are enough, and to and artboard are not
used. The panel sends the value with the Distribute Objects buttons
while there is a key object, as it does with the Distribute Spacing
buttons. Without a key object, or with anchor points selected,
object.distribute does not use spacing and works as before. A spacing
that is not a number is an error.
Docs: docs/mcp.md, docs/target-app-parity.md.
object.setBounds read x, y, width and height with f64_or, which falls back
to the current value for anything that isn't a JSON number, so
{"width": "60 mm"} returned ok and changed nothing. object.move,
object.nudge, object.rotate, object.scale (sy) and object.shear did the
same with their optional numbers. A value that is neither a number nor
null is now a BadParams error naming the key, as a missing required
number already is.
With Align to Artboard chosen, the Align panel's six Distribute Objects
buttons and its two Distribute Spacing buttons acted on the selection.
object.distribute and object.distributeSpacing took no to or artboard
param. Distribute Objects kept the outermost objects where they were
and did nothing with two objects, and Distribute Spacing kept the first
object's left or top edge and the last object's right or bottom edge
where they were.
Both commands now take to ("selection", "artboard" or "key") and
artboard, and the panel sends its Align To choice as to. When to is
"artboard", the first object's left or top edge goes to the artboard's
left or top edge, and the last object's right or bottom edge goes to
the artboard's right or bottom edge. Distribute Objects spaces the
other objects evenly by its button's line, and two objects are enough.
Distribute Spacing without a spacing value makes the gaps between the
objects equal. Both commands use the same artboard as object.align.
The app passes the active artboard to both commands, and recorded
actions leave it out, so an action plays on the artboard that is
active when it plays. With "selection" or "key", or without to, both
commands work as before. Distribute Spacing with a spacing value still
keeps the key object in place with each of the three to values. With
anchor points selected, both commands still space the points among
themselves and do not use to.
Docs: docs/mcp.md, docs/target-app-parity.md.
A group has no paint of its own, so a compound path made of one (outlined type) had none
and drew nothing until a fill was set. The paint now comes from the backmost path, or
from the compound path that painted it.
Rarely set fields move into one optional boxed NodeExtras, and large NodeKind payloads (images,
live shapes, blends, envelopes) are boxed. Every object, and every undo step that copies it,
shrinks: a 50k-path move keeps ~24.5 MB per step instead of ~40 MB. Files stay byte-identical
(Node keeps its flat JSON through a borrowed Serialize and a from-wire Deserialize, no flatten),
and loading is slightly faster. Undo and redo reuse their step's size estimate instead of
walking the document again (8.3 -> 5.6 ms for a 50k-path move).

Disable, Enable, Unlink and Link Opacity Mask and Opacity Mask Options
(transparency.setOpacityMask) edited the document whenever a target
had an opacity mask, even when every mask already had the flags the
call set. Such a call recorded an undo step, emptied Redo and marked
the document modified.
When every mask a call acts on has those flags already, the call now
returns without editing the document, whether it acts on the
selection, on id or ids, or on the object whose mask is being edited.
The reply is still null, and the journal still records the call. A
call that changes a flag on any of the masks is still one undo step.
One line in the evidence list of docs/target-app-parity.md names the
commands.
Transform Again kept only the last transform's matrix and its Copy
flag. After a Selection tool handle drag resized area type, Transform
Again scaled the type instead of resizing the type area again. After
Move, Rotate, Scale, Reflect or Shear with Transform Patterns set
differently from General › Transform Pattern Tiles, Transform Again
followed the preference, and after a scale whose strokes or corners
param differed from Scale Strokes & Effects or Scale Corners, it
followed those preferences. A recorded Transform Again played back
with the preferences in effect at playback, although its step records
the strokes, corners and patterns values it used.
last_transform now keeps the options with the matrix, as
last_perspective keeps the perspective.transform params.
apply_transform stores the copy, typeAreas and patterns values a
transform command used, and strokes and corners when it scales.
commit_interaction stores the params of a drag's last object.transform
preview with the values that preview noted. object.transformAgain
passes the options to the transform it repeats, and a true or false
value given in its own params under one of those names takes
precedence. A recorded step plays back with the values it records.
Three engine tests fail without the change: Transform Again after a
handle drag on area type, Transform Again after a Move with patterns:
false while Transform Pattern Tiles is on and after a Scale with
strokes: true while Scale Strokes & Effects is off, and a recorded
Transform Again played back with Transform Pattern Tiles on.

select.anchors in toggle and add mode now starts from all of a path's
anchors when the path is selected as a whole, as select.anchorsMany does.
Before, Shift-clicking an anchor of a fully selected path left only that
anchor selected.
Follow-up to #1237 / #1254.

With anchor points selected by Direct Selection, the Align buttons moved
the whole path, so two points couldn't be lined up. As in Illustrator,
they now align the selected points: to the points' own bounds (Align To
Selection) or to the artboard. A path selected whole still aligns as an
object.
Make Compound Path kept each path's direction under the non-zero fill
rule, so a shape drawn inside or across another, running the same way,
left the overlap filled instead of making a hole. The paths in front of
the backmost one now run against it, so where they overlap it they cut
holes, as users expect from a compound path.
An agent driving VectorCraft over the confined MCP server had no way to
see which files it was given, so it guessed names. `file.list {path}`
lists a folder's files (with their sizes) and folders by name, held to
the automation read root like every read; links are listed as links and
not followed. At most 5000 entries, with `truncated` saying when there
were more.

A path of several subpaths (an SVG `d` with several `M`s, PDF paths, a
path drawn in one go over MCP) is a compound path in Illustrator, and
Object › Compound Path › Release splits it into separate paths. Here
Release only acted on compound path objects, so such a path couldn't be
broken apart. Release now gives each subpath a path of its own, with the
path's paint, in stacking order; the first keeps the path's id. One undo
step, as before.

object.align with neither horizontal nor vertical returned success
and moved nothing. The command palette, and a key bound to it in
Keyboard Shortcuts, run it with no params. It now returns
"give horizontal or vertical", as object.distribute already did.
An action recorded while Align ran from the palette or a bound key
contains an object.align step with no params. Playing that action now
fails at that step, and command.batch rolls back the whole action.
Values outside a parameter's choices were read as another choice or
ignored. Align ignored an unknown horizontal or vertical and aligned
to the selection for an unknown to value. Distribute read an unknown
direction as center. Distribute Spacing and Shear read any axis other
than "vertical" as horizontal, and Reflect read any axis other than
"horizontal" or a number as vertical. A bounds or to value that was
not a string fell back to the default, and a spacing that was not a
number gave automatic spacing. The commands now return an error that
names such a value, before they move anything or record an undo
step. When a to, bounds, axis or spacing value is missing or null,
the command uses the parameter's default: Distribute Spacing without
an axis spaces the objects horizontally.
The run_command description and docs/mcp.md showed object.align with
an align param it does not have; they now use horizontal. The new
status-bar messages have rows in the de, es, fr, it, ja, ru and uk
catalogs.
Docs: docs/mcp.md, docs/target-app-parity.md.
Align to Artboard aligned the selection to the artboard under its
center, or to the first artboard when no artboard was under the
center. A press with a selection tool inside an artboard makes that
artboard the active one (#693). With the Selection tool, a
Shift-click on an empty spot inside an artboard also makes it active
and keeps the selection. Align to Artboard did not use the active
artboard.
object.align takes artboard, a 0-based artboard index, and uses it
when its to param is "artboard". The app passes its active artboard,
the one the Artboards panel highlights, to each object.align it runs
that names none, as it does for Paste in Place, Paste in Front, Paste
in Back (#693) and Select › All on Active Artboard (#1006). MCP calls
in remote mode also get it. Without artboard (headless MCP and the
CLI), or with an index the document doesn't have, object.align aligns
to the artboard under the center of the selection, or to the first
artboard when no artboard is under the center.
command.batch takes artboard too, and the app passes it the active
artboard. The batch passes it on to each step of these five commands
that names none, when the step runs. When the document a step runs in
has no artboard at that index (for example, after an earlier step
deleted the active artboard when it was the last one), the step gets
that document's last artboard. A step in a document that an earlier
step opened, created or switched to gets the same index, not that
document's own active artboard.
With Align to Selection, one selected object aligned from the Align
panel, the Control bar or the Properties panel is aligned to the
active artboard too, unless it is the key object.
Recorded actions leave out the artboard that the app passes to these
commands and to the batch. The Actions panel plays an action as a
batch. Its Align to Artboard, All on Active Artboard and in-place
paste steps that name no artboard use the artboard that is active
when it plays, and the default Center on Artboard action now centers
on the active artboard. In-place paste steps recorded since #693 and
before this change still paste onto the artboard that was active when
they were recorded.
Tests cover object.align with and without artboard on three artboards;
a Shift-click that makes an artboard active, after which Align to
Artboard aligns to that artboard but keeps an artboard the call names;
a batch that passes its artboard to each step when the step runs,
after a step deletes the last artboard and in a new document; recorded
actions that leave the artboard out; and recorded Align to Artboard
and Paste in Place steps and the default Center on Artboard action,
which play on the artboard that is active when they play.
Docs: docs/mcp.md (Align to Artboard), docs/target-app-parity.md.
Selecting two objects, clicking one to make it the key object and then
Shift-clicking the other left the remaining object as the key. The
canvas still drew that object with the thick key-object outline. The
Align panel aligned the object to itself, so the object did not move.
The key is now cleared after any change that leaves no other selected
object outside it, such as a Shift-click, or hiding or deleting the
other object's row in the Layers panel. On a single selected object,
or on a group selected with only its own members, select.key sets no
key.
With one object selected and Align to Key Object chosen, the Align
panel, the Control bar and the Properties panel ran object.align with
to: "key", which fails with "no key object" when the selection has no
key. All three now align a single selected object to the artboard
whatever Align To is set to.
Docs: docs/target-app-parity.md.
Align and Distribute Spacing move a selected compound path or group as
one object, and they found the key object only when its own id was
among the objects they move. When the key was inside a compound path
or a selected group, aligning to the key moved that compound path or
group like any other object, and the key moved with it. In that case,
Distribute Spacing with a spacing held the first object still instead
of the key.
The key object can end up inside a selected group or a compound path.
Dragging its row into a group in the Layers panel (layer.move) keeps
the selection and the key. A Selection-tool Shift-click on that group,
when it is unselected and directly in a layer, then adds it to the
selection (select.toggle) and keeps the key. Other ways of adding the
group keep the key as well: a Shift-click in the Layers panel's
selection column or on the group's target circle, a Group Selection
click that hits the key itself, select.add, and select.anchors or
select.anchorsMany in add or toggle mode. In isolation mode, a
Selection-tool click on one of several selected objects in the
isolated group makes that object the key. In an isolated compound
path, the same click on the outline of a selected member makes that
member the key.
Align to the key object and Distribute Spacing with a spacing now keep
in place the selected object that is the key or contains it. Both
commands look for that object among the key and its ancestors, so a
group around the key's group also stays in place. Aligning to the key
still lines the others up with the key's own bounds.
Docs: docs/target-app-parity.md.
These Object commands edited the document even when nothing changed, so
the call recorded an undo step, emptied Redo and marked the document
modified:
- object.align, object.distributeSpacing and object.distribute (three
or more objects) when no object moves. With one object selected,
Object › Align aligns it to its own bounds, so it recorded a step
every time. Calls on objects that were already aligned or evenly
spaced also recorded a step, including objects that an earlier Align
or Distribute left a rounding error away from the position the next
call computes.
- Move, Rotate, Scale, Shear, Transform and Nudge by an identity
transform without a copy, Transform Again after one, Set Bounds with
the current position and size, and a Selection tool drag that ends
where it started.
- Nudge by 0 with anchors direct-selected or with only ruler guides
selected, and Transform with nothing selected or with ids that name
no object, with or without a copy.
- Bring to Front and Bring Forward on objects already in front, Send to
Back and Send Backward on objects already at the back, and Send to
Current Layer on objects already on top of the current layer.
- Ungroup, Release Compound Path and Release Clipping Mask with none of
their objects selected, and Expand Shape with no live shape selected.
- Lock with every selected object already locked, Hide with every one
already hidden, Unlock All with nothing locked and Show All with
nothing hidden.
- object.setProps with the values the objects already have, or with no
object.
- object.setLiveShape with the values the shape already has: a
polygon's sides, angle, radius or equal sides, or a side length that
gives exactly its current radius; an ellipse's pie, including Invert
Pie on a whole ellipse; and a corner radius or kind that the corners
already have.
These commands now return without editing the document, and Align and
Distribute count a move of 1e-9 pt or less on both axes as none. Such a
call records no undo step, keeps the step to redo and leaves the
document unmodified. In these cases Ungroup no longer resets the
selection, and Release Compound Path, Unlock All and Show All no longer
empty it. A Transform with a copy of no object keeps the selection.
Lock and Hide still deselect the objects. A Nudge by 0 no longer
expands a live shape whose anchors are direct-selected. The replies
have the same form as before. An identity transform still sets what
Transform Again repeats. The journal still records each call, so the
Actions panel records it as before.
When every value given to Set Bounds is the current one, it now applies
the identity transform instead of the transform computed from those
values, which can differ from the identity by a rounding error on a
rotated object or with Use Preview Bounds.
When a drag comes back to its start, the identity preview no longer
edits the document. Session::preview now advances the revision when it
undoes the previous preview, so views redraw that drag.
The undo and redo row of docs/mcp.md now notes that many calls that
change nothing record no undo step, so undo after one undoes the step
before it.
The PR added `checked_anchor_from_json` next to the lenient
`anchor_from_json` and dropped path.rs's import of the latter, which
`path.appendAnchor` still called, so the engine didn't compile.
`anchor_from_json` is now the strict parser itself (handles through
`finite_numbers`), used by path.create, path.setAnchors and
path.appendAnchor alike: the Pen's appended anchor with a malformed
handle fails too instead of losing the handle. Tests: a non-boolean
`closed` and a malformed appended handle change nothing. rustfmt.
