The Artboard Options help pages describe two display options
(https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/desktop/create-manage-artboards/organize-manage-artboards/modify-display-settings-of-artboards.html,
.../set-video-display-options-for-artboards.html): a mark at the artboard's
center, and lines from the middle of each side through the center. The
document already had show_center_mark and show_cross_hairs on Artboard, but
nothing set or drew them.
artboard.setProps (each `artboards` entry too) and artboard.new take
showCenterMark and showCrossHairs as true/false, in the same single undo
step as the other fields; a locked artboard can still change them.
Artboard Options has both checkboxes, filled in from the artboard whether
it opens from the panel or a double-click with the Artboard tool, and its
New Artboard form passes them to artboard.new. The canvas draws them in the
new theme token artboard_mark, 1 point wide on screen at any zoom: a cross
12 points across at the center whose arms follow the artboard's sides, and
the two cross hairs. They are screen-only like the edges; exports and print
never read the fields. inspect_document reports them when on. Saved files
are unchanged: the two keys were already always written, so a document that
never shows them saves byte for byte as before, and a file without the keys
opens with both off. Video safe areas, video rulers and the pixel aspect
ratio are not part of this change.
Verification: artboard_display_marks_are_set_and_cleared_in_one_undo_step,
artboard_display_marks_round_trip_through_the_native_format,
artboard_display_marks_stay_out_of_exports (SVG and PDF identical with the
marks on and off), an_artboard_shows_its_center_mark_and_cross_hairs
(positions, screen-constant size under zoom, rotated view) and
artboard_options_show_center_mark_and_cross_hairs. cargo xtask ci: all 10
steps passed.
With the Artboard tool the arrow keys did nothing to the artboards: the
tool claimed only Escape, Delete and Backspace (tools/src/xform/artboard.rs
claims_key), so the arrows fell through to object.nudge in
ui-egui/src/shortcuts.rs, which moved the selected art on its own (or
nothing, with no art selected) and left the artboard where it was.
- artboard.rs: the tool claims the arrow keys and turns each press into
one artboard.move of the selected artboards that aren't locked, by the
keyboard increment (Preferences > General > Keyboard Increment, read
from the tool context as Touch Type does), Shift ten times as far as
object.nudge does, with moveArt from the tool's Move/Copy Artwork with
Artboard option, as a drag sends it. One undo step per press; nothing
during a drag or with only locked artboards selected.
- tests: arrow_keys_nudge_the_selected_artboards (tools: claims, step,
Shift, moveArt, several boards, locked, mid-drag) and
artboard_tool_arrow_keys_move_the_selected_artboards_with_their_art
(engine: the artboards and the art on them move, one step per press).
Verified live over --control: a 400x300 artboard with a selected 40 pt
square, Artboard tool, ArrowRight: before, the artboard stayed at x 0 and
the square moved to x 51 ("Move"); after, the artboard goes to x 1 and the
square with it ("Move Artboard"); Shift+Down moves both 10 pt; with
Move Artwork off only the artboard moves; increment 5 moves 5 pt.
The drag case in the report: a drag already moves the art, but only the
art that lies wholly inside the artboard and is unlocked and visible
(doc/src/lib.rs art_on_artboard; locked and hidden art only with
Move Locked and Hidden Artwork with Artboard). Art overlapping the
artboard's edge stays behind by design, which may be what the reporter
saw when dragging.
object.transformEach refused reflectX, reflectY, random and copy given
as text, but read strokes, corners, objects and patterns given as text
as the key left out. With Scale Strokes & Effects on,
{"scaleH": 200, "scaleV": 200, "strokes": "false"} scaled the stroke,
recorded an undo step and kept the params for Transform Again, which
repeated the call. artboard.rearrange, artboard.move and
artboard.duplicate read their patterns option the same way, and
artboard.setProps reads its patterns, strokes and corners options the
same way.
These commands now refuse such a value with "`<key>` must be true or
false" before they change anything. So do the other options and
numbers of artboard.setProps and artboard.move, the art of Duplicate,
Copy and Cut Artboard, the shape commands and path.create, path.close,
path.setHandle, path.moveAnchors, the Pencil, Curvature, Reshape
Segment and Blob Brush options, text.create, text.createInPath,
text.setRangeStyle, text.editRange, text.getRange, text.touchType,
text.areaOptions, type.step, the font size steps,
type.opticalMarginAlignment, type.systemLayout, type.fractionalWidths,
type.ruby, the symbol and swatch commands, the Appearance panel's
commands, the gradient and freeform gradient commands, Shape Builder,
Live Paint, Image Trace, the opacity of object.setProps, the radius,
sides and relativeRadii of object.setLiveShape, the reference point of
object.setBounds and the artboard of Align, Distribute and Distribute
Spacing. They refuse a number given as text with "`<key>` must be a
number, not <value>", and a gradient stop's tint with "stop <n>:
`tint` must be a number". A null still reads as the key left out.

brush.new, brush.duplicate, object.pattern.make,
object.pattern.saveCopy, artboard.new and artboard.setProps kept the
name they were given as it was, and brush.options and pattern.options
kept the white space around a new name. So a script could make a brush
" Nib" beside "Nib", and a blank name made a brush, a pattern or an
artboard named with the blank. Artboard Options sends its Name field
as typed, so clearing it named the artboard "". The Brush Options
dialog, the Pattern Options panel and the Artboards panel trim the
names they send.
The eight commands now trim the name, and the brush and pattern
commands compare the trimmed name with the names there are. In
brush.new, brush.duplicate, object.pattern.make,
object.pattern.saveCopy and artboard.new, a blank name gives the name
the command gives when there is none: "New Calligraphic Brush" and the
other default brush names, "<name> copy", "New Pattern N",
"<pattern> copy" and "Artboard N". brush.options and pattern.options
keep the name when the new one is blank, and artboard.setProps gives a
blank one the artboard's default name, Artboard N for the Nth
artboard. Duplicate Brush and Save a Copy name the copy of a brush or
pattern whose saved name has white space around it from the trimmed
name (" Old " gives "Old copy").
Docs: docs/mcp.md, docs/target-app-parity.md.
With several artboards selected, the Artboards panel menu's Duplicate
Artboards copied only the active one, and Copy and Cut with the
Artboard tool took only the tool's active artboard.
artboard.duplicate, artboard.copy and artboard.cut now take `indices`,
and without `index` or `indices` they act on the artboards the
Artboard tool has selected. Duplicate Artboards passes the selected
artboards and selects the copies. Duplicate and Cut are one undo step
each, and Paste adds every copied artboard back, with its art, in one
undo step. The copies keep their places relative to each other,
together right of the last artboard. A cut fails when it names every
artboard.
Docs: docs/mcp.md, docs/target-app-parity.md.
artboard.setProps and artboard.fitToSelection read an `index` that is
negative, fractional, a string or null as 0 and edited the first
artboard, and artboard.setProps edited the first artboard when the
call named no `index`. artboard.duplicate, artboard.copy and
artboard.cut took the Artboard tool's artboard for such an `index`.
artboard.reorder failed for it with "missing index".
These commands now read `index` as artboard.delete, artboard.move and
artboard.fitToArt do, and fail with "no such artboard" when it names
no artboard; the document and the clipboard stay as they were.
artboard.setProps without `index` fails with "missing index". Without
`index`, artboard.fitToSelection still fits the first artboard and the
copy commands still take the Artboard tool's artboard.
Docs: docs/mcp.md.
Duplicate Artboards, the Artboard tool's Alt-drag (artboard.move with
copy) and Paste of a copied artboard gave the new artboard the largest
artboard id plus one, saturating. In a document with an artboard id
of 4,294,967,295 (u32::MAX), which only a hand-made file has, the copy
got that same id. Artboard guides record the id of their artboard.
Deleting either of the two artboards with that id then deleted the
guides of both, and guide.list reported the copy's guides on the
other one.
push_artboard_copy now takes the id from Document::next_artboard_id,
as artboard.new and Convert to Artboards do. Since the #1718 fix, that
function returns the smallest free id when the largest is u32::MAX.
In a document whose artboard ids are all below u32::MAX, a copy gets
the same id as before.
Docs: docs/target-app-parity.md.
Reversal read the midpoints after Gradient::reverse had reordered the stops, so each stop
took the wrong segment's midpoint: red-to-blue with its midpoint at 20% reversed to a 50%
midpoint instead of 80%, moving the transition.
Gradient::reverse now mirrors each segment's midpoint with it, so a reversed gradient is the
same ramp the other way round; paint.editGradient's own (wrong) pass is gone, and the SVG
importer's reflect spread, which had a correct copy of the same mirroring, uses it too.
Tests: two- and three-stop gradients with off-centre midpoints sample the same reversed (t vs
1 - t) and come back after two reversals; paint.editGradient reverse turns a 0.2 midpoint into
0.8.

# ROADMAP.md
Illustrator's Every-line Composer balances the breaks of the whole
paragraph for left/centre/right aligned text too, not only justified
text. VectorCraft only composed justified area text; ragged text was
always broken greedily.
- Model: ParaStyle.composer (vectorcraft_doc::Composer, re-exported by
vectorcraft-text), Every-line by default like Illustrator, saved only
when Single-line. layout() reads it from the object;
LayoutOptions.composer is now an Option override for tests.
- Composer: the justified gate is gone. Ragged lines never shrink (a
line that doesn't fit ends the node), badness is 100*r^3 with r = the
line's leftover space over a rag zone of 1/6 of the width (finite for
lines without spaces); the last line is free unless shorter than 1/3
of the width (measured in zones of 1/3), so a lone short word on the
last line pulls a word down. Hyphens cost 25 in ragged text (50 in
justified). Knuth-Plass fitness classes with adjacency demerits
(justified 10000, ragged 1000). Lines past the last width change
share one node key, active nodes are capped (4096) and paragraphs
over 200k glyphs break single-line, so work stays bounded; ragged
tries a tolerance of one rag zone, then any fitting breaks, then
falls back to greedy.
- text.setFormat {composer: "singleLine"|"everyLine"}; the Paragraph
panel menu's composer items work with a check mark (Reset Panel goes
back to Every-line).
- Tests: ragged Every-line moves "or" down in "Destroy all creatures
with toughness X or less." where greedy leaves "less." alone; the rag
of long paragraphs is no worse than greedy (sum of squared leftover
and of neighbour differences); Single-line is greedy; the 10k-char
layout budget covers ragged text; command test with undo; native
format round trip (rich_session's text is now Single-line).
No existing test needed changing: the justified tests and
hyphenated_layout_adds_hyphens (ragged, now Every-line) still pass.
Auto alignment (start of the paragraph direction) is ragged; a wrapped
line's Mojikumi flush opening bracket gives its half em back to the
composer, as in the line loop; tests cover Auto in both directions.
Layout of 10k chars, release: justified Every-line 5.6 ms, ragged
Every-line 5.8 ms, ragged Single-line 4.8 ms.
With the Artboard tool chosen, Copy and Cut take its artboard together with
the art fully inside it (when Move/Copy Artwork with Artboard is on), and
Paste brings both back in one undo step: Paste right of the last artboard,
Paste in Place / in Front / in Back where it was, into this or another
document, the art going back into the layers it came from (Paste on All
Artboards pastes the art alone). The clipboard carries the artboard
(Clipboard::artboard); a pasted artboard keeps its name when it is free.
Duplicate Artboards (the Artboards panel menu, and now a row dragged onto
New Artboard) copies the art too: artboard.duplicate {index?, art?} defaults
to the Artboard tool's artboard and moveArt option and reports the copies.
It shares copy_artboard with the Alt-drag copy (artboard.move {copy}).
New commands reachable over MCP: artboard.copy and artboard.cut
{index?, art?}; edit.copy / edit.cut run them while the Artboard tool is
chosen (and are enabled then with nothing selected). Docs (mcp.md), the
tool and panel docs, translations of the new labels and the ROADMAP follow.

No behaviour change: every command keeps its id, label, menu, shortcut and
params doc.
- Engine: swatch.* -> cmd/swatch.rs, graphicStyle.* -> cmd/style.rs,
appearance.* (incl. copyFrom) -> cmd/appearance.rs, stroke.set/setAdvanced
-> cmd/stroke.rs, paint.editGradient/setGradientGeom -> cmd/gradient.rs.
Shared helpers in cmd/mod.rs: leaf_targets/paint_targets (replacing three
copies) and unique_name (swatch and graphic style naming).
- UI: dialogs.rs -> dialogs/ with one file per dialog and a DialogSpec
registry (one DialogKind row per dialog); shared field widgets in
dialogs/form.rs. Headless frame tests draw and confirm every dialog.
