bflatastic 0cf59a6cbd .ai import: area type shows its first line in a substituted font (follow-up to #1264)
Area type whose frame is too short for a line of the font it shows in here
drew nothing: a font that isn't available shows in the fallback font, whose
line may be taller than a frame made for one line of the file's font (overset
type isn't drawn). Where the file itself lays lines out in the frame, the
frame of the imported text object is made taller, from its top, by what its
first line needs, and the open result says how many frames were.

bflatastic 8e16c8529f .ai import: type of text objects with an appearance, on hidden layers and on later artboards goes where it belongs (follow-up to #1264)
- The type in a text object's drawn look (1 /FreeUndo) is a story of the
undo-free text document, which counts its stories on its own. It was read
as the story of that number in the text document, so a label could show
another object's text in another object's frame. The object itself, which
follows the look, is the type now.
- The page's type of a text object on a hidden layer stays with that object
(hidden) instead of going to the nearest text object that shows.
- The type on the page of a later artboard is matched where the layers have
that artboard, not by the first page's place.

dotCooCoo 1e76e389d2 Part of #868: PDFs saved with the reference app's editing data open from it, as .ai files do
A PDF saved with the reference app's editing data keeps that data in
streams named AIPDFPrivateData1, AIPDFPrivateData2, ..., where a .ai
file uses AIPrivateData1, AIPrivateData2, .... illustrator_data read
only the .ai names, so such a PDF opened like any other PDF: plain
groups opened ungrouped, and hidden objects and guides were missing. The
import gave no warning that the PDF's editing data went unread.

illustrator_data now reads the AIPDFPrivateData streams when the file
has no AIPrivateData1, and the PDF opens from its editing data as a .ai
file does. editingData: false still opens it like any other PDF.
has_private_data still looks for AIPrivateData keys only.

layered_ai also returns whether it read the layers. When it did, art
reaching past a PDF's page opens whole, and through_editing_data drops
the PDF importer's note that such art was clipped (PAST_PAGE_NOTE, now
public) as it drops the off-artboard note. When it didn't, both notes
stay. On main, a .ai whose editing data can't be decoded or has no
layers opened from its PDF part without the off-artboard note.

testkit::ai::pdf writes the .ai file of testkit::ai::ai with the PDF
key names. The editing-data tests open it as a PDF, and the import fuzz
test opens the damaged sample as a PDF too.

Docs: the document.open params, docs/mcp.md,
docs/file-format-parity.md, docs/gaps.md (G9: the export direction of
#868 remains), one evidence line in docs/target-app-parity.md, and #868
moved from layer structure to editing data in the File formats row of
docs/target-app-parity.md and in docs/roadmap.md.

Aaron GuoandClaude Opus 5.5 a99b1200ff PDF/.ai import: a .ai opens on its artboard with its bleed round it (#1266)
A PDF-compatible .ai with a bleed writes its PDF part's page as the
artboard grown by the bleed: the crop box takes the bleed in, the trim
box is the artboard and the bleed box the bleed. The importer made the
crop box the artboard, so the bleed opened as more white page with no
bleed guide; and since the editing data's artboard no longer matched
that page, its layers weren't read either ("its editing data is for a
different page").

Opening a PDF-compatible .ai with the crop box (the default) now takes
its trim boxes as the artboards. Any import on the trim boxes (Crop To
› Trim, for a PDF too) sets the document's bleed to how far the bleed
boxes reach past them on each side (ISO 32000-1, 14.11.2), kept to
0–72 pt, and the document read from the editing data keeps it. Art in
the bleed shows outside the artboard, within the bleed guide. Plain
PDFs still open on their crop box by default, and Place is unchanged.

Hiroshi InukaiandClaude Opus 5.5 996111b179 .ai import: copied area type and type on a path keep their own place
Read through its editing data, a .ai put the copies of area type and type
on a path on top of their original: the text document's frame of a copied
object keeps the original's path (with a matrix of its own that isn't
understood yet). The object's `/Art` path, which the layers' data keeps
for each text object, is where the file places it: area type and type on
a path now take it as their frame or path, by story and frame.

On a file of cards made by copying one, the type laid out from the text
document now lands on each card (515 text objects where its PDF part has
them, against 467, many on one card, before).

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 0cfdefa853 #1102: an EPS keeps its page and stacked text strokes through its layers
Since #1025 reads global colours, more Illustrator EPS files open through
their layers, and for one reported file that gave a worse result than its
page did in 0.8.0:
- the page became the editing data's artboard (344 pt tall) instead of the
file's own bounding box (358 pt), cutting off art reaching above it. An
EPS whose page is its art's box now keeps that page on the layers path
too, as it does on the page path.
- prune_unseen took out text objects the page does draw: a red stroke
stacked over a dark red one differs from it by less than the lightness
margin, so the page looked no different without it. Pruning now weighs
  each text object by colour (any of red, green, blue more than 64 apart);
the page check itself still compares by lightness, so colours written
as their CMYK equivalents still match.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 2480a505cb #1068: a .ai read as its PDF part keeps its artboard layout
When a .ai's layers can't be read from its editing data yet, it opens as
its PDF part, which lists the artboards as pages; those were laid out in
a row, so a grid of artboards (or any other arrangement) was lost. The
editing data's artboards are now read even then (ai::artboards, as far
as the reader gets) and, when there are as many as pages and of the same
sizes, each page goes where its artboard is, with the art on it (the art
of a page: the objects mostly on it, else nearest it). Otherwise the
pages stay in a row as before.

bflatastic 2048084396 #1027: PostScript-form .ai files open through their layers
A .ai in PostScript form went only to the PostScript interpreter, which
stopped on the first operator its missing prolog would define
(`Adobe_packedarray`, `Lb`, `Np`): files from Rhino and other CAD apps name
the procsets without including them.

- Such a program is its own editing data: when it has layers
(`%AI5_BeginLayer`) and no private data, the editing-data reader reads it,
compared with the page when the program runs, from the layers alone when
it can't be run. If the layers can't be read either, the error says why.
- The reader takes the legacy ten-operand `Lb`, ignores flatness `i`, and
uses the bounding box as the page when nothing else says where it is.
- Tests on synthetic files; fuzz fixture and hostile-program layers added.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 495694e1ac Part of #758: .ai import doesn't weigh text objects when the layers can't be used
Before deciding to use the layers of an Illustrator file, the import
drew them again for each text object made from the file's text
document, to see whether the page draws it. When the layers differ from
the page by more than the check allows even with every such object
gone (taking one out only changes what is drawn in its box), the
layers aren't used whatever is taken out: that weighing is now
skipped.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 3198abe2fd Part of #637: area type, threaded type and type on a path from the text document
Illustrator EPS and .ai type is made whole from the file's text
document, shown or hidden: point type, area type (a story in several
frames as threaded type that flows when the file opens) and type on a
path, with its fonts, size, leading, tracking, scaling, baseline shift,
fill and stroke colours (grey, RGB or CMYK), alignment, indents and
paragraph spacing. The page's drawing of that type, often in pieces, is
left out; where the text document can't say, type that shows still
comes from the page.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 c599522061 Fix #735: Illustrator EPS and .ai files match their page in Fit to Artwork Bounds and the page check
- Fit to Artwork Bounds fits the art exports draw: hidden objects and
layers, guides and template layers don't count, and the bounds stop at
  a layer's clip.
- The comparison with the page catches an object one draws that the
other doesn't (pixels whose neighbours all differ, away from type), a
light colour against white, and, for an EPS whose page is its art's
box, art the layers print outside it.
- textAs: outlines opens a .ai whose type shows from its PDF part, which
  has the outlines.
- document.open takes editingData: false to open an Illustrator EPS or
.ai as its page or PDF part only, for print pipelines.

Juan Manuel Verges SolanasandClaude Opus 5.5 1c692e5191 Part of #758: .ai import draws the page once when weighing the layers against it
Each comparison of the layers' art with the page made a new renderer and
drew both again, so the page was drawn and every image decoded once per
text object weighed, plus once more for the final check. The page is now
drawn once, and the layers keep one renderer (with its decoded images)
across their draws. The page's images keep a renderer of their own, as
their keys can match the layers' without their pixels doing so.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 4b9f9b9bc2 Part of #637: .ai files saved without PDF compatibility open from their editing data
Such a file's PDF part is a placeholder page, which was refused. When
the file carries editing data, it now opens from that alone: its
structure as a PDF-compatible file's, its point type made from the text
document, and type it can't make (area type, type on a path) left out
with a note that marks the import as lossy. Without editing data, or
with pages picked or layers off, the placeholder is refused as before;
damaged editing data says so.

The page-order note is no longer given when the page has no type.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 0be7640088 Part of #637: the editing data's structure read whole, colours, gradients, transparency, names, images and artboards included
The layers reader of the editing copy (operators translated into
PostScript for the interpreter, any file with RGB colours, gradients,
transparency or images falling back to its page) is replaced by a reader
of the whole structure (import/ai): layers and sublayers with their
options, groups, compound paths, clipping groups and layer clipping,
names, hidden and locked objects, RGB, CMYK, grey, named and spot
colours, gradients, transparency, fill rule, overprint, embedded images
with their alpha channel, guides and every artboard, and objects drawn
as their look when they have several fills or strokes, effects or a
brush. Containers: Zstandard, zlib or plain data in EPS and .ai.

The text placement, the comparison with the page and the overwrite guard
stay around it. The page's type takes its text object's place without a
group; the comparison is by lightness, on nothing, without layers that
don't print. Symbols, pattern fills, placed files and unknown operators
make the file come in as its page where they show, and are left out of
layers that don't.

Matthew FarrowandClaude Sonnet 5.5 8fe0fd8394 EPS import: bound what hostile editing data can cost, and say when it can't be read
- a story is read once however many text objects name it; the text objects, their pairs with the
page's type, the pieces of a line and a story's size are capped, and over a cap the layers aren't used
- the ASCII85 of the text document is bounded before it is decoded
- joining the pieces of lines that interleave no longer removes the wrong pieces
- a run length too large for the text saturates instead of overflowing
- a dictionary left open at the end of a layer, and layers nested deeper than are read, make the
file one that comes in as its page (they were silently dropped)
- a file whose editing data can't be decoded says so, and the notes about art that was too much or
too far away count as losses, so writing over the source asks first
- the private data of a .ai is inflated under a cap of its own (the PDF reader's decoder has none)
- the other writers (PDF, selection, office, print) ask before replacing a source that lost things,
and a recovered copy remembers that

Type turned to outlines leaves its text object in the file, which the app that
wrote it doesn't draw (it paints every shown text object on the page). A text
object made from the file's text document that shows on the page's area where the
page has no type, and without which the layers look no worse against the page, is
left out, with a note.

Matthew FarrowandClaude Sonnet 5.5 2dc738b816 EPS import: spell out abbreviated styles, and keep a line the page draws in pieces as one text
- A PostScript font name's shortened style words (Md, Lt, Bd, XBd, Cn, It, ...)
weren't matched to installed faces, so AkzidenzGroteskPro-Md came in as
the condensed face. They are spelled out before the face is looked up.
- A line the page draws in pieces (around kerning) came in as several text
objects ("swe", "ep"); the pieces that add up to one line of the file's
text object now join into one, with the line's spaces between them.

Matthew FarrowandClaude Sonnet 5.5 618b1cf94f EPS import: a commented copy of a text object that has a plain one isn't another object
Some files write a text object twice, once plainly and once as comments (and
others only as comments). Reading both made a second copy of the type, built from
the text document, over the page's own (wrong size and place). The commented copy
is now skipped when its story has a plain text object.

Matthew FarrowandClaude Sonnet 5.5 ec43ac5a1e Read Illustrator EPS and .ai layers from their editing data
An Illustrator EPS is a flattened page plus, after %%EOF, an editing copy of
the document; a PDF-compatible .ai carries the same in its private data.
Importing only the page lost layer names, order, visibility, hidden layers
and hidden objects and hidden text.

- eps: read the editing copy (Zstandard %AI24_DataStream, older zlib
%AI9_DataStream) into layers, sublayers, groups, compound paths, clip
groups and hidden objects, run by the existing PostScript interpreter.
Falls back to the page, with a warning, when a shown layer uses an
operator that isn't read or the art differs from the page by over 5%.
- eps: read the text document (ate.rs) to place type on hidden layers and
objects; the page's type is matched to the file's text objects by
position (pieces of a line included) and kept with the nearest one when
none claims it. Area type and type on a path are left out with a note.
- pdf/engine: .ai files go through the same reader.
- engine/cli: a file whose import left things out isn't overwritten unless
  asked (acknowledgeLoss, --replace-lossy).
- eps: font names re-encoded with a *<n> suffix resolve to their family.
- i18n: es/it/ru for the new import messages; ROADMAP updated.

Container and text-document formats were inferred from user-owned files; the
Adobe file format specification was not read.
