The Stroke panel enables Align Stroke while the Type tool edits text, and
styles the selected characters. docs: mcp.md (stroke.set and strokeOptions
align on type), type-parity and target-app-parity rows.
The characters' stroke takes Align Stroke like an object stroke: CharStyle
keeps stroke_align (written only when not centred), stroke.set and
text.setRangeStyle strokeOptions apply align to type, and the Stroke panel
enables the buttons for type. Canvas, PDF and EPS draw it around the glyphs
through stroke_layer(); SVG keeps the text live and writes the aligned
stroke on the glyph outlines, clipped or masked. Type's visual bounds grow
with its character strokes.
A rejected Stroke panel edit with nothing selected leaves the next
object's stroke as it was; an accepted one sets its weight and dashes.

The General unit is the active document's units: Preferences > Units >
General sets them (one undo step) and is the units new documents start
in (and the unit shown with no document open); Document Setup changes
only the document. The Transform panel, Properties, the Control bar, the
Info panel, rulers, the status bar, Align spacing, Tabs, paragraph
indents, Pattern Options, dialog distances (Move, shape sizes, path
dialogs, Artboard Options, effect distances, Transform Each, parameter
dialogs), New Document and the canvas measurement labels (smart-guide
sizes, moves, the Measure tool, the Live Corners radius) all follow it,
live. Units > Type drives font size, leading and baseline shift; Units >
Stroke also reaches the Appearance panel and the Magic Wand weight
tolerance. Typed units ("5 mm", "12 pt") work in any field; all ten
units are choices; length preferences show in their unit and accept a
unit; offset/simplify/grid/type-size params read typed units. Typed text
starting with a multi-byte character no longer panics the parser.

The M3/M4 work added ten panic sites the new workspace lints deny:
- doc: the lens/taper width profiles fall back to a uniform profile
instead of `expect` (the presets are a constant table, covered by tests).
- engine: `FlattenOptions::default` builds the medium preset directly
(`builtin`), `apply` skips an empty group instead of `expect`, the
writable-format fallback reports an error instead of `expect`, and the
new-art template's stroke comes back as an `Option` (it always has one)
instead of `expect`.
- tools: the freeform gradient drag returns no actions for a grab it never
starts (was `unreachable!`), and the gradient tool's release takes the
gesture with `if let` instead of `expect`.
Behaviour on the success paths is unchanged.

With nothing selected, Stroke panel edits (stroke.set / stroke.setAdvanced: cap, join, dashes,
arrowheads, profile...) and a graphic style clicked in the Graphic Styles panel
(graphicStyle.apply, add too) set up the next object drawn: its stroke options, fills, strokes,
effects, opacity and blend mode, linked to the style. The Appearance panel's New Art Has Basic
Appearance (appearance.setNewArtBasic, preference newArtBasic, on by default) now works: off,
new art takes the whole appearance of the last selection. paint.default resets the template,
appearance.newArt reports it, and with nothing selected the Stroke panel shows its stroke and
the Appearance panel its rows. PaintDefaults gains the template appearance, opacity, blend
mode and style.

Double-clicking a width point opens Width Point Edit (Side 1, Side 2, Total Width, a link
keeping the sides equal, Adjust Adjoining Width Points, Delete; dialog `widthPoint`, also
`ui.widthPointEdit`). Shift-click selects several width points, which drag and widen together
as one undo step; Alt-dragging a point's centre copies it (`stroke.widthPoint.copy`); dropping a
point onto another makes a discontinuous point (two points at the same t), and the stroke's
width steps there. `stroke.widthPoint.set` takes `adjustAdjoining`, keeps a discontinuous point
when only its widths change, and `stroke.widthPoint.remove` takes `indices`. Flipping a profile
along the path swaps the sides of its steps; `document.inspect` reports `widthPoints`.

Arrowhead gains 30 original shapes generated in code, appended after the first
ten so saved names stay stable: Barbed, Half Arrow (left/right), Concave,
Double Arrow, Chevron, Feather, Swallowtail, Reverse Triangle, Triangle to Bar,
Kite, Leaf, Drop, Half Circle, Oval, Target, Tag (+ open), Diamond (open),
Hexagon (+ open), Star, Cross, Plus, Double Bar, Dot on Bar, Slash, Double
Slash, Bracket and Fork. Each is drawn in local units of the head's weight
inside the usual 4 x 4 box, with its own stop for the stroke under it.
Arrowhead::label() names them in the menus. The Stroke panel's arrowhead
dropdowns render every head as the canvas draws it (cached textures, a shared
widgets::doc_preview that the Brushes panel now uses too) in a scrolling list.

The Stroke panel's Profile list now holds saved profiles next to the built-ins,
kept with the preferences (Prefs.width_profiles). Add to Profiles… names the
selected stroke's variable width, Delete Profile removes the selected stroke's
saved one (built-ins can't be deleted), Reset Profiles removes them all.
Three more generated built-ins (Pinch, Teardrop, Wave). The dropdown (Stroke
panel and Control bar) lists saved profiles and draws a custom profile's own
silhouette. Commands: stroke.widthProfile.add/delete/reset/list; stroke.set
{profile} takes a built-in id or a saved name.

- Weights and dash lengths show in Units > Stroke in the Stroke panel,
the Control bar and the Properties panel (Session::stroke_unit).
- Values the selected objects don't share show blank (weight, miter
limit, dashes) or light no button (cap, join, align), from a
per-revision cached DocState::stroke_mixed.
- Align Stroke Inside/Outside are disabled for open paths and type.
- The Control bar weight is a preset spinner with a width profile
dropdown, and its Stroke link (and the Properties panel's) opens the
Stroke panel as an anchored popover instead of docking it.
- The panels show a group's first painted object's stroke, as the
Stroke proxy does (Session::shown_stroke).
- stroke.set on a group skips images and symbol instances.
- document.inspect reports each object's strokeOptions (cap, join,
miterLimit, align, dash, dashOffset, alignDashes, arrows, arrowAlign,
profile) in stroke.set terms.

With type selected, stroke.set (without an item) gives every run the
weight, cap, join, miter limit and dashes instead of adding an object
stroke; while the Type tool edits text, the Stroke panel styles the
selected characters through text.setRangeStyle `strokeOptions`, and the
panel reads the first run (or the selection's style).
CharStyle gains stroke_cap, stroke_join, stroke_miter_limit and
stroke_dash (defaulted, skipped when default). Character strokes and
object strokes on type now draw through the shared stroke geometry on
the canvas, in PDF and in SVG (live text writes cap/join/miter/dash and
tspans reset what the first run sets; object strokes are drawn on the
glyph outlines), so every stroke option, opacity and blend applies.
Outlines, the Eyedropper and graphic styles keep the options.

With alignDashes every run between corners and path ends holds a whole number of
periods, scaled to fit, with a dash (or dot) centred on each corner and on both
ends of an open path. It lives in the shared dash generator, so the canvas, SVG
and PDF export (as outlines) and Outline Stroke all draw it.
stroke.set: alignDashes and dashOffset edit the current pattern on their own, and
a new dash array keeps the offset and alignment it replaces. The Stroke panel
turns dashes on fitted to corners (or as last turned off), and its Exact/Fit
buttons send only the flag.

- A fill row no longer turns stroke edits (stroke.set, setAdvanced, paint.setStroke, gradients) into
a new stroke on a selected group's own stack: an active row only stands for edits of its kind.
- Removing, duplicating or moving items of other objects (`ids`) no longer re-points the active row.
- transparency.set with an item touches the item only for opacity/blend (isolate or knockout alone
is one undo step) and rejects unknown blend modes.

Hollow heads draw as rings (the open arrow as a chevron) and closed paths get
no heads. The stroke stops under each head, so it never shows through a hollow
head or past the tip; stroke.set {arrowAlign: "extend"|"tip"} chooses whether
the tip extends past the end point (default) or sits on it with the stroke
shortened. Line and heads share one paint box (a gradient runs on into the
head) and take the stroke and object opacity once, as one layer on the canvas
and one group in PDF. StrokeLayer.arrow_align is a new defaulted field, so
older files load unchanged. The Stroke panel's Align buttons get two generated
icons and are disabled when the stroke has no head.

The shared stroke geometry now has its own arc-length dash generator: a dash
of length 0 becomes a dot that a round cap paints as a disc and a projecting
cap as a square turned along the path (a butt cap paints nothing). Dashes
restart per subpath, join across the start of closed subpaths, and a pattern
too fine for the path draws solid. The canvas and raster export use it through
line_outline; the stroke.set params doc says how to get dots.

Arrowheads, width-profile outlines and dashed line outlines now come from
vectorcraft_effects::stroke (stroke_pieces, line_outline, width_outline), used by
the canvas and PDF export alike; the renderer caches profile outlines too. Width
profiles are a doc-level catalogue (WidthProfile::PRESETS, preset, preset_id,
id_of) shared by stroke.set and the Stroke panel; stroke.set rejects unknown
profile ids and its params doc lists the arrowhead names.

Clicking a fill or stroke row runs appearance.setActiveItem; the toolbar,
Control bar and Properties proxies and the Color, Swatches, Gradient,
Stroke and Transparency panels show and edit that item, and the gradient
tool's annotator follows it. paint.setFill/setStroke, stroke.set/
setAdvanced, paint.editGradient/setGradientGeom and transparency.set take
item (omitted: the active item, null: the top one). Item edits and the
appearance.* commands address the selected objects' own stacks, so a
group's own fills no longer leak into its contents. Any selection change
clears the active item.

No behaviour change: every command keeps its id, label, menu, shortcut and
params doc.
- Engine: swatch.* -> cmd/swatch.rs, graphicStyle.* -> cmd/style.rs,
appearance.* (incl. copyFrom) -> cmd/appearance.rs, stroke.set/setAdvanced
-> cmd/stroke.rs, paint.editGradient/setGradientGeom -> cmd/gradient.rs.
Shared helpers in cmd/mod.rs: leaf_targets/paint_targets (replacing three
copies) and unique_name (swatch and graphic style naming).
- UI: dialogs.rs -> dialogs/ with one file per dialog and a DialogSpec
registry (one DialogKind row per dialog); shared field widgets in
dialogs/form.rs. Headless frame tests draw and confirm every dialog.
