file.new takes a width and height up to 163,830 pt, 1 to 1,000
artboards, a spacing of 0 to 100,000 pt and a bleed of 0 to 72 pt a
side, but a saved or Recent New Document preset in the preferences
was read as it was stored. With a width of -5, file.new failed with
"width/height must be positive and within the canvas"; a spacing of
-50 overlapped the artboards, a preset with 5,000 artboards made 5,000
artboards, and a bleed of 100 reached the document. A .vectorcraft
file's Document Setup bleed, superscript and subscript proportions and
small caps size also opened as stored, and document.setup then failed
when its own report was passed back to it.
These values are now read as the nearer end of the range their
setter takes, and an artboard width or height of 0 or less is read as
1 pt. Presets and files with values in range read as before.
Docs: docs/mcp.md (Document Setup, New Document).
document.rasterEffectsSettings accepts a resolution from 1 to 2,400
ppi, but a file's raster_effects_ppi opened as it was saved. With 0,
-5 or 5000 in the file, object.rasterize without a ppi param failed
with "ppi must be between 1 and 2400", and document.rasterEffectsSettings
and document.info reported the stored value. With 0 or -5, EPS and
PDF export wrote a freeform gradient as a 1 x 1 px image, and EMF
export wrote every gradient as one. A saved New Document preset in the
preferences kept such a value too.
A file's or a saved preset's resolution outside 1 to 2,400 ppi is now
read as the nearer end of that range. Documents with a resolution in
range open as before.
Docs: docs/mcp.md (resolution, rasterEffectsPpi).
Preferences › Guides & Grid › Gridline every and Subdivisions set the
grid of the documents that were open when either value changed, and of
no other document. A document made with File › New, or opened from a
file VectorCraft reads no grid from (SVG, PDF, EPS, .ai and the other
imported formats), got a 72 pt grid with 8 subdivisions, whatever the
preferences were set to. After a restart the saved values applied to no
document, because the desktop app restores the preferences at launch,
before any document is open.
file.new now gives a new document the preferences' grid, and
document.open, file.newFromTemplate and file.revert give it to a
document read from such a file. A native file, and the native document
that an SVG, PDF, .ai or EPS file carries, keep the grid they were
saved with. Changing either preference still sets the grid of every
open document.

- artboard.rearrange takes layout (gridByRow, gridByColumn, row, column;
byColumn stays as an alias of gridByColumn) and order (leftToRight,
rightToLeft); Columns is the row count of a grid by column and is
ignored by row and column. It returns {artboards, rows, columns}.
- A Rearrange All Artboards dialog: Layout and Layout Order toggles drawn
in code (widgets::layout_button, previewing the order), Columns/Rows,
Spacing, Move Artwork with Artboard and the artboard count.
- One click: Rearrange All in the Properties panel (Document section with
several artboards, Edit Artboards' Quick Actions); the Artboards panel's
Rearrange button and menu item now open the dialog too.
- Tests for every layout x order (artboards, art riding along, one undo
step), the dialog, the Properties button; the command sweep covers the
new params. Translations for ja, es, it, ru, fr, zh-hans, zh-hant and
pt-br; ROADMAP updated.

File Info's dates come from the clock, so documents made or saved a second
apart differed: journal_replay_reproduces_document and
rich_fixture_satisfies_invariants_and_undoes_to_blank failed at random.
One approach for every clock-derived date: it is a command input that
defaults to now, and the journal records the value used.
- file.new takes created? and document.save / file.saveAs take modified?
(Unix seconds, or null for none; default now), through date_param /
clock_date on the one save path (save_with), so Save, Save As and the
UI's save stamp alike; Save a Copy still leaves the dates.
- Their journal entries always record the date used, so replaying the
journal makes the same document whenever it runs. Actions recorded from
the journal (Session::journal_for_action) leave those dates out, so
playing an action later dates the document then.
- Test fixtures date their documents fixtures::CREATED, and the MCP
property test dates its local document as the headless one, so
documents built at different moments compare equal.

file.info takes and reports the title, author, author title, description,
keywords, rating, copyright status, notice and URL in one undo step, plus
the read-only created (file.new) and modified (every save to a file) dates;
junk values are refused. Document.metadata (DocMetadata) round-trips
natively. PDF export writes author, subject and keywords to the info
dictionary and XMP, PNG export writes tEXt/iTXt chunks, SVG export writes
<desc> and, with the metadata option, every field as Dublin Core. The File
Info dialog (fileInfo, ui.fileInfoDialog) edits it with keyword chips and
star ratings.

File > New opens a New Document dialog in the reference app's layout:
category tabs (Recent, Saved, Mobile, Web, Print, Film & Video, Art &
Illustration, Branding, Social) over cards of presets generated in code
(page-proportioned thumbnail, neutral name, size with units), and a
Preset Details column: name with Save Preset, width with the units
dropdown, height, portrait/landscape toggles, artboards, linked bleed,
Background Contents with its chip, collapsible Advanced Options (colour
mode, raster effects, preview mode), More Settings, Close and Create.
More Settings is the classic form of the same fields (profile and size
lists, artboard layout buttons, spacing and columns, Templates...).
Choosing a preset fills the fields; editing one makes them custom.
file.new takes every setting (preset, name, orientation, artboards with
artboardLayout {layout, columns, spacing, rightToLeft}, bleed,
backgroundContents, colorMode, rasterEffectsPpi, previewMode; sizes may
carry units). file.newPresets lists the categories; file.newPresets.save
and .delete keep user presets in the preferences; Recent remembers the
last sizes. Print presets and plain sizes start in Preferences > Units >
General, screen presets in pixels. Rearrange All Artboards shares the
grid layout code. The Home screen shows the same preset cards.
