bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 e0895fd4ba M4.47: PostScript .ai and placeholder-only .ai files say why they can't open
A PostScript file (a .ai saved in an older format or without PDF
compatibility, or an .eps, plain or with a binary header) is refused by any
name with a clear message instead of a parse error (there is no PostScript
importer yet). An .ai whose pages are only placeholder text over the editor's
private data (PieceInfo AIPrivateData) is detected and refused with advice to
save it with PDF compatibility, instead of opening the placeholder.
vectorcraft-pdf: is_postscript(), PdfError::PostScript / PlaceholderOnly.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 8765d335ec M4.46: PDF import keeps CMYK, Gray and spot colours
DeviceCMYK and CMYK ICC colours import as CMYK and a file painted mostly in
CMYK opens as a CMYK document (with CMYK default swatches); DeviceGray
imports as Gray; Separation and DeviceN inks become global spot swatches
(their 100 % colour from the alternate space: CMYK, RGB, Gray or Lab) that
the art links to at its tint, /All links to Registration and process
colorants make CMYK. Shading stops keep their model and ink links the same
way. Inks mixed in one DeviceN colour, or spaces that can't be told apart,
import as RGB (with a warning for the mix).

document.open takes colorMode (rgb | cmyk) to open any file in that mode,
converted as file.documentColorMode does (its conversion is now shared).

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 e204341996 M4.45: PDF import and place options — pages, Crop To and password
Opening or placing a PDF or .ai with several pages or a password shows the
Import PDF / Place PDF dialog: a page preview with page navigation, Pages
(All or a range) when opening, Crop To (Bounding Box, Art, Crop, Trim, Bleed,
Media) and a password prompt for encrypted files.

- vectorcraft-pdf: ImportOptions.pages / crop / password, CropTo, info()
(pages, sizes, rotation, boxes); NeedsPassword / WrongPassword / BadPage
errors; images keyed by content so placed pages merge safely.
- document.open takes pages, page, cropTo (or crop) and password;
document.pdfInfo (query) lists pages and boxes, reports needsPassword and
  renders a page thumbnail.
- file.place and file.place.info read only the page placed and take every
PDF box as crop (art, trim, bleed, media besides crop and bounding) and a
password; the UI's File > Place asks with the dialog when no page is given,
keeping Link, Template and the other place params.
- testkit::pdf writes hand-made PDFs with page boxes and RC4 encryption.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 0e5425544a M14.6: shortcut overrides and workspace names no longer leak between parallel tests
global_override_reaches_shortcut_of_and_tools failed about once in a
hundred full ui-egui runs: the override and workspace-name mirrors
(read by menus and the shortcut dispatcher, which have no app access)
were process-wide, and every frame of any headless test running in
parallel synced its own default UI state into them, wiping the test's
overrides between its sync and its assertions.

- One `ui_mirror!` declares both mirrors: process-wide in the app, one
per thread under cfg(test), so each test only sees the state of the
  app it drives.
- New test: a sync from another thread leaves this thread's overrides
and workspace names alone (fails with a shared mirror).

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 950a941003 M4.33: Export As with Use Artboards (All or a range) and art bounds
File > Export > Export As... (file.exportAs) picks any writable format and Use Artboards: All
or a range writes one file per artboard, <file>-<artboard>.<ext> (a PDF keeps them as pages);
off, the export covers the bounds of the visible art (an artless document is refused before the
save dialog). The format's options dialog follows: PNG/JPEG/WebP Options, SVG Options, or Save
PDF for artboards as pages. document.export takes useArtboards for raster formats (true: one
file per chosen artboard, default all) and PDF (false: the art's bounds), and the app's exports
return every file written and the encoder's warnings.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 157724279f M4.34: raster export options and PNG Options — resolution, background, anti-aliasing, interlacing
PNG is written by an in-code chunk writer with the resolution in pHYs and optional Adam7
interlacing (JPEG stores the resolution in JFIF). document.export takes ppi (72/150/300/other,
wins over scale), background (transparent, white, black or a colour) and antiAlias (none, art,
type: text snapped to whole pixels); Export for Screens rows take them too (plus one top-level
antiAlias, and a row's ppi names its @Nx suffix), and so does object.rasterize. Hard edges stay
hard in every offscreen pass (groups, masks, filters), whatever the thread count.
RenderOptions.anti_alias and render::encode::RasterExportOptions; PNG/JPEG/WebP Options dialog
(pngOptions/jpgOptions/webpOptions) after File > Export As PNG.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 74b5a904b7 M4.40: Preserve Editing SVGs reopen exactly, or as plain SVG once edited elsewhere
The editing data now sits in CDATA inside <metadata> with a hash of the
markup around that element (whitespace between tags and line endings
don't count). document.open restores the native document when the hash
matches (data written without a hash is trusted as before); when another
app changed the SVG, or the data can't be read, it imports the SVG and
says why in its warnings. vectorcraft_svg::editing reports the data and
whether it is intact; editing_data stays. Live effects, symbols and
patterns come back exactly; the import fuzz test now mutates saved SVGs
with editing data and hidden layers.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 370c6e2fc0 M4.39: SVG symbols as <symbol>/<use>, hidden layers on Save, Dublin Core metadata
Symbol instances export as one <symbol> def per symbol and a <use> per
instance. An instance the def can't stand for exactly (stained by its fill,
or a transform under which the canvas paints differently: scaling with
strokes, effects or live objects, turning with effects or brushes, any move
with pattern paints or unlinked masks) is written as its own art, now
stained like the canvas and with its patterns and unlinked masks left on
the page. Symbols nested in themselves stop at a fixed depth.

New SVG option hiddenLayers keeps hidden layers as display:none groups;
document.save (and Save As / Save a Copy) turns it on unless told
otherwise, exports leave hidden layers out. Import shows display:none
layer groups to usvg and marks them hidden, so they reopen hidden
(groups a <use> refers to stay templates). File Info metadata goes through
one Dublin Core list. The symbol stain helper moves to vectorcraft-brush
so the renderer and the SVG writer share it.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 76b7d960f2 M4.25: Drop files on the canvas to place them; several placed files load the place cursor
Files dropped on the canvas of an open document are placed at the drop point (linked; Shift
embeds); dropped on the tab bar or with no document open they open and join Open Recent Files.
The canvas is outlined while files are dragged over it. On the web, drag events give the drop
point and the files arrive through the inbox.

File > Place picks several files. file.place.queue loads the place cursor (the `place` tool):
a click places the current file at 100% with its top-left corner there, a drag places it at the
dragged size with its aspect kept, the arrow keys cycle the files and Esc discards one; the
previous tool returns after the last. The cursor shows the file's thumbnail and a count badge.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 20e0935116 M4.24: File > Place as an engine command: images at their physical size, SVG/PDF/native as one group
file.place {path | name+dataBase64, link, template, replace, at, rect, page, crop} places a
file as one undo step without touching the clipboard. Raster images come in at 100% of the
resolution their file declares (PNG pHYs, JFIF/EXIF, TIFF, BMP; 72 ppi otherwise), linked to
their path by default; SVG becomes one group with its embedded images; a PDF/.ai page or a
native document's artboard becomes one clipped group. The images, symbols, patterns and
swatches the art uses join the document (renamed on conflict). Replace keeps the replaced
object's stacking place and transform; Template puts the art on a new locked template layer
below the current one. file.place.info and image.info report size, ppi and colour mode.

File > Place picks a file and opens the Place dialog (Link, Template, Replace); the web picks
through the inbox. The Control bar shows Linked File/Embedded, the file name, colour mode and
ppi of the selected image.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 6afcacbd91 M4.21: New Document with preset categories, details column and More Settings
File > New opens a New Document dialog in the reference app's layout:
category tabs (Recent, Saved, Mobile, Web, Print, Film & Video, Art &
Illustration, Branding, Social) over cards of presets generated in code
(page-proportioned thumbnail, neutral name, size with units), and a
Preset Details column: name with Save Preset, width with the units
dropdown, height, portrait/landscape toggles, artboards, linked bleed,
Background Contents with its chip, collapsible Advanced Options (colour
mode, raster effects, preview mode), More Settings, Close and Create.
More Settings is the classic form of the same fields (profile and size
lists, artboard layout buttons, spacing and columns, Templates...).
Choosing a preset fills the fields; editing one makes them custom.

file.new takes every setting (preset, name, orientation, artboards with
artboardLayout {layout, columns, spacing, rightToLeft}, bleed,
backgroundContents, colorMode, rasterEffectsPpi, previewMode; sizes may
carry units). file.newPresets lists the categories; file.newPresets.save
and .delete keep user presets in the preferences; Recent remembers the
last sizes. Print presets and plain sizes start in Preferences > Units >
General, screen presets in pixels. Rearrange All Artboards shares the
grid layout code. The Home screen shows the same preset cards.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 d527349f5a M4.20: Document Setup with bleed, transparency grid, paper and type options
File > Document Setup is a tabbed dialog over one engine command,
document.setup (no params: a query; any keys: one undo step;
document.setUnits stays as the units alias).

- General: units, bleed (four sides with a link toggle), Edit Artboards,
Show Images in Outline Mode (greyscale pixels under the frame),
Highlight Substituted Fonts/Glyphs (pink boxes on screen only).
- Transparency: grid size and colour presets or custom colours, Simulate
Colored Paper, the flattener preset (built-in or saved) and Discard
White Overprint (Overprint Preview keeps white overprints visible).
- Type: language with its quotes, Use Typographer's Quotes for the Type
tool and Smart Punctuation, superscript/subscript size and position and
small caps size (Character panel position/smallCaps; changing the
setup restyles the text in the same undo step), text export (SVG text
as text or outlines by default).
- The canvas draws a red bleed outline and the grid in the document's
colours and cell size as one textured quad, also in rotated views; a
white Background Contents exports raster formats opaque.

Model: Document.setup (DocSetup, defaulted, skipped when default) and
CharStyle position/small_caps; old files load unchanged.
tests_transparencygrid's helper now finds the grid by its texture (the
grid is one textured mesh instead of per-cell rectangles).

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 96aba71759 M4.30: SVGZ read and write
svgz is a writable format with the SVG options (document.export,
serialize, save, Export for Screens): exactly the SVG export, gzipped.
SVGZ is recognised by its extension or the gzip magic bytes and opens,
places and pastes like SVG (clipboard.importSvg takes dataBase64 of SVG
or SVGZ); Export As SVG or Save As to a .svgz name writes it
compressed. Gzip lives in the svg crate (pure-Rust flate2, builds for
wasm) and unpacking stops at 512 MB.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 b75ed0877d M4.29: object ids and names survive the SVG round trip
Layer Names writes readable ids plus data-name with the original name
whenever the id differs; Minimal writes only the ids definitions need;
Unique prefixes every id and CSS class with a content hash, so SVGs
inlined in one page never collide. Import names objects and layers from
data-name, inkscape:label, serif:id or aria-label.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 32252c68ea M4.28: SVG gradient export fidelity
Character gradients on live type export as url(#…) spanning the
laid-out text (point, area, on-path and outlined type, as on the
canvas); character stroke gradients span the text grown by half the
weight. Identical gradients share one def, and a swatch gradient takes
the swatch's name as its id. Midpoints are written as extra stops marked
data-vc-midpoint, which import turns back into midpoints.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 1982ecf98d M4.27: area type and rich text in SVG export
Every laid-out line of type is written at its own position (wraps,
indents, tabs, hyphenation and all caps as on the canvas): a positioned
tspan per style run and, on justified lines, per word. Centred and
right-aligned lines are anchored at their centre or right end, so they
stay aligned in a viewer whose font differs. Leading comes from the
layout's baselines, baseline shift is written as dy, horizontal scale as
textLength, vertical scale as the size, tracking and manual kerning as
letter-spacing. The fewerTspans option (engine and dialog) writes one
positioned tspan per line.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 4a3859c69b M4.26: SVG Options in the engine, a dialog and MCP
document.export, serialize and save, and the Save As / Save a Copy UI
commands, take the SVG options flat or as svg: {…}: styling
(presentation, style, entities, css), outlineText, images (embed or
link; linked files are written next to the SVG), objectIds (layerNames,
minimal, unique), decimals 1–7, minify, responsive, useArtboards and
range "all" (one SVG per artboard), preserveEditing (the SVG reopens as
the full document) and metadata. Unknown keys are rejected and
document.formats lists every option with its default. Results carry the
SVG writer's warnings.

Save writes SVG to an .svg path and Save again reuses its options.
Export As SVG and Save As / Save a Copy to .svg open SVG Options (first
use: Internal CSS and Responsive, then the last-used choices) with a
read-only code view. Save a Copy no longer retargets the document.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 3b99df3b9a M14.5: Preferences > Units drive every length the UI shows and reads
The General unit is the active document's units: Preferences > Units >
General sets them (one undo step) and is the units new documents start
in (and the unit shown with no document open); Document Setup changes
only the document. The Transform panel, Properties, the Control bar, the
Info panel, rulers, the status bar, Align spacing, Tabs, paragraph
indents, Pattern Options, dialog distances (Move, shape sizes, path
dialogs, Artboard Options, effect distances, Transform Each, parameter
dialogs), New Document and the canvas measurement labels (smart-guide
sizes, moves, the Measure tool, the Live Corners radius) all follow it,
live. Units > Type drives font size, leading and baseline shift; Units >
Stroke also reaches the Appearance panel and the Magic Wand weight
tolerance. Typed units ("5 mm", "12 pt") work in any field; all ten
units are choices; length preferences show in their unit and accept a
unit; offset/simplify/grid/type-size params read typed units. Typed text
starting with a multi-byte character no longer panics the parser.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 a40bce615a M4.32: PDF warnings, Summary section, View PDF after Saving and status text
document.export and document.serialize return the encoder's warnings (PDF:
options not applied yet, features approximated or left out, overprint).
document.pdfSettings lists the options that differ from the defaults and
the warnings (includeDocument adds the active document's own from an
in-memory export); the dialog's Summary section shows both. View PDF after
Saving opens the written file as a file:// URL through Services.open_url;
the status line reports the notes. The PDF writer's raster-effects warning
now names what it leaves out (objects of a kind, fills, strokes) instead of
claiming raster effects are never exported.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 4304a7c0b1 M4.31: Save PDF dialog and document.exportPdf with PDF settings
PdfSettings (serde, camelCase) is the Save PDF model: Standard, Compatibility
PDF 1.4-2.0, General (Preserve editing, Thumbnails, Fast web view, View after
saving, Create layers), Compression, Marks and Bleeds, Output, Advanced and
Security. PdfOptions = settings + pages, title and date.

document.exportPdf {path?, preset?, artboard?|artboards?|range?, standard?,
compatibility?, ...sections} -> {path|dataBase64, bytes, warnings} applies the
options over the preset (null keeps the preset's value); PDF/X, passwords,
PDF/A-2b at 2.0 and out-of-range values are refused; options accepted but not
applied yet come back as warnings. document.export {format: pdf} and
document.formats take and list the same options.

The Save PDF dialog (file.export.pdf, ui.savePdfDialog) has Preset,
Standard and Compatibility on top and a section list; it runs the export
before asking for a path, so bad options never open a save dialog.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 5c58ebcb32 M4.19: SVG text import fidelity — text keeps its place, group, clip and mask; textPath, per-character positions, weights, spacing, paints and CSS selectors survive
Each <text> is swapped for a placeholder group before usvg runs, so the text keeps its z-order,
parent group, clip, mask, opacity, link and <use> instances, and usvg resolves its gradient and
pattern paints (in text space). <textPath> becomes type on a path (startOffset, side, anchor),
vertical writing-mode type on a vertical path. Per-character x/y/dx/dy/rotate lists become line
breaks (bounded), kerning (absolute x measured against the layout), baseline shift and rotation;
baseline-shift, numeric and relative weights (style names), letter/word spacing, kerning and the
character stroke's cap, join, miter and dashes are kept. The style cascade supports type, #id,
multiple-class, attribute, descendant and child selectors with !important and specificity.
<pattern> paints become pattern swatches. The import fuzz covers the new attributes and CSS.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 bc17c1e635 M4.18: SVG import units — absolute lengths keep their physical size, px map 1:1 to pt, document units follow the file
A pixel (and a unitless user unit) is a point and absolute lengths convert at 72 pt per inch
(`font-size="12pt"` is 12 pt, `1in` is 72 pt); a root size in absolute units keeps the physical
size main already gave it (`210mm` opens as a 595.28 pt artboard, user units being CSS pixels of
it). The document's units follow the unit of the root width (pixels when it has none). Text font
sizes honour their units (em/ex/% relative to the parent size, CSS size keywords), as do text
positions, letter spacing, stroke widths and dashes.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 8d0fae610d M14.4: fuzz the library loaders and main's new SVG import paths
import_fuzz now also feeds garbage and mutated `.vcswatches`, `.gpl`,

`graphicStyle.loadLibrary` / `flattener.presets.import`, uses what loads
(adds and applies the swatches and styles, previews and flattens with the

attributes. `PROPTEST_CASES` now raises the case count as the file's docs
say (an explicit `cases: 64` used to override it).

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 1a5f7f6441 M14.4: no panics in the shipped code main gained since the no-panics branch
The M3/M4 work added ten panic sites the new workspace lints deny:
- doc: the lens/taper width profiles fall back to a uniform profile
instead of `expect` (the presets are a constant table, covered by tests).
- engine: `FlattenOptions::default` builds the medium preset directly
(`builtin`), `apply` skips an empty group instead of `expect`, the
writable-format fallback reports an error instead of `expect`, and the
new-art template's stroke comes back as an `Option` (it always has one)
  instead of `expect`.
- tools: the freeform gradient drag returns no actions for a grab it never
starts (was `unreachable!`), and the gradient tool's release takes the
  gesture with `if let` instead of `expect`.

Behaviour on the success paths is unchanged.

Brandon ThomasandClaude Opus 5.5 3e323bfa2a Robustness: VectorCraft never crashes — no panics in shipped code
Shipped code no longer unwraps, expects or panics: every one of the 124
unwrap()/expect()/panic!/unreachable! sites outside tests now handles the
failure (Result/Option, ?, let-else, defaults) and reports errors to the user.

- Lints: workspace clippy denies unwrap_used, expect_used, panic, todo,
unimplemented and unreachable; clippy.toml allows them in tests, and
integration tests, examples and testkit opt out explicitly.
- Safety net (vectorcraft_engine::guard): a panic in a top-level command rolls
the document back and returns EngineError::Internal; a panicking tool is
reset; the MCP server answers with an internal error and keeps serving; the
UI frame and each control request are guarded.
- APIs that hid failures now return them: Rendered::to_png/to_jpeg/to_webp
return Result (JPEG/WebP errors used to write empty files),
FontDb::face returns Option, Region::top returns Option.
- Fuzzing: engine/tests/import_fuzz.rs feeds garbage, hostile and mutated SVG
and PDF through import → render → export (30k cases locally, no panics).
- Docs: AGENTS.md/CLAUDE.md rule, docs/development.md "Robustness" section,
README pointer and a PR template checklist.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 025d758abe M3.83: gradients within, along or across a stroke
The Gradient panel's Stroke buttons now work: with the Stroke proxy on a
linear or radial gradient they lay it within the stroke (placed on the
page, as before), along the path (start to end of each subpath) or across
it (left edge to right edge; inside/outside strokes span their visible
side). `paint.editGradient {stroke: true, strokeMode}` sets it (new art
too with nothing selected); `document.inspect` reports
strokeOptions.gradientMode. Model: StrokeLayer.gradient_mode (default
Within, not written).

Shared geometry in effects::stroke::gradient: ribs on the bisectors of
the flattened path (fans round sharp corners, widened under arrowheads,
following width profiles) cut slices each painted with a linear piece of
the gradient (Gradient::span). The canvas and raster export clip them to
the stroke's outline and arrowheads, grown a pixel and composited with
copy so there are no seams and translucent stops paint once. SVG and PDF
write the same slices clipped to the outline, with a warning (new
vectorcraft_svg::export_with_report). Outline Stroke and Expand make
gradient meshes clipped to the outline. Mesh quads now grow along their
edges so thin quads show no seams. Dashes, profiles and arrowheads keep
working in both modes.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 5a0e6be852 M3.52: stop the eyedropper image-sampling test from flaking
The engine unit tests share one process, and two colour-management tests
switched the process-wide Color Settings (the working RGB space to the wide
gamut profile, Black Point Compensation off) for a moment. Any test that
showed or rendered a colour at that moment saw it through the wrong profile:
clicking_an_image_samples_its_pixel read #008181 instead of #008080.

- Move the two tests that change the Color Settings to their own test
binary (crates/engine/tests/color_settings.rs), so no unit test can see
  non-default settings.
- The image-sampling test compares the stored colour, not its display hex.
- every_command_survives_empty_params toggles the process-wide proof view
(Proof Colors, Overprint Preview, Separations), so it now takes the
colour-management test lock like the tests that read that view.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 be648089be M3.96: Color Themes panel with a local theme library
Window → Color Themes: the Create tab makes a five-colour theme on a
harmony wheel (a harmony rule from the selected colour, colours moving
together; or Custom, each on its own), with a brightness slider, hex
field, current-colour picker and name; the My Themes tab lists saved
themes to edit, add to Swatches as a colour group, or delete. Themes are
kept in the preferences (Prefs::color_themes; no online service).

Commands: colorTheme.list, colorTheme.save {colors | color + rule, name?,
replace?}, colorTheme.delete, colorTheme.addToSwatches. Harmony::theme
and move_on_wheel live in the colour crate; the wheel is now a shared
widget (widgets::harmony_wheel) used by Recolor Artwork's Edit tab too.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 81582c8d4f M3.95: Color Guide Limit to Library and Edit or Apply Colors without art
The Color Guide's library button opens a Limit to Library popup (None,
Document Swatches, the colour libraries): every harmony colour and
variation snaps to the nearest colour there (CIEDE2000), cached per
inputs so the grid isn't re-snapped every frame. `color.harmony` takes
`limitTo`, `ui.colorGuideLimit` sets the panel's limit, and Recolor
Artwork's Limit to Library also offers the document's swatches (one
shared engine helper, swatchlib::limit_palette).

Edit or Apply Colors opens Recolor with the harmony colours limited to
the same library; with no art selected the colours are the rows and OK
saves them as a new colour group.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 d8eff17b9f M3.98: radial annotator extent ellipse, aspect handle and off-centre focal point
Radial gradients show a dashed extent ellipse: its handle across the bar
sets the aspect ratio, the ellipse elsewhere rotates it, and the dot inside
the centre ring drags the focal point (GradientGeom.focal) for an off-centre
radial. paint.setGradientGeom takes aspect (%) and focal ([x,y] | null), and
start/end may be left out; the focal point keeps its place in the ellipse as
the vector, aspect and object transform. It renders as a two-point radial,
exports and imports as SVG fx/fy and PDF two-point radial shadings, expands
to off-centre rings, and travels in gradient params and the native format.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 b8793eeaef M3.97: freeform points drag out to delete, spread ring drags, Lines mode draws lines
With the Gradient tool on a freeform gradient the selected point shows its
spread as a dashed ring with a handle; dragging either sets the spread. A
point dragged out of the object is removed on release, and double-clicking a
point opens the gradientStop popover, which now edits the selected freeform
point (colour, opacity, spread). In Lines mode successive clicks draw one
smooth line (with a rubber band to the pointer); clicking an existing point
continues the line from it, and Escape or a click off the art ends it.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 faf006e135 M3.65: new-art appearance template (stroke options and graphic styles with nothing selected, New Art Has Basic Appearance)
With nothing selected, Stroke panel edits (stroke.set / stroke.setAdvanced: cap, join, dashes,
arrowheads, profile...) and a graphic style clicked in the Graphic Styles panel
(graphicStyle.apply, add too) set up the next object drawn: its stroke options, fills, strokes,
effects, opacity and blend mode, linked to the style. The Appearance panel's New Art Has Basic
Appearance (appearance.setNewArtBasic, preference newArtBasic, on by default) now works: off,
new art takes the whole appearance of the last selection. paint.default resets the template,
appearance.newArt reports it, and with nothing selected the Stroke panel shows its stroke and
the Appearance panel its rows. PaintDefaults gains the template appearance, opacity, blend
mode and style.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 b79262d4f4 M3.64: Width tool depth: Width Point Edit, multi-select, Alt-copy and discontinuous points
Double-clicking a width point opens Width Point Edit (Side 1, Side 2, Total Width, a link
keeping the sides equal, Adjust Adjoining Width Points, Delete; dialog `widthPoint`, also
`ui.widthPointEdit`). Shift-click selects several width points, which drag and widen together
as one undo step; Alt-dragging a point's centre copies it (`stroke.widthPoint.copy`); dropping a
point onto another makes a discontinuous point (two points at the same t), and the stroke's
width steps there. `stroke.widthPoint.set` takes `adjustAdjoining`, keeps a discontinuous point
when only its widths change, and `stroke.widthPoint.remove` takes `indices`. Flipping a profile
along the path swaps the sides of its steps; `document.inspect` reports `widthPoints`.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 9537eca5f7 M3.90: blend modes and opacity composite inks in CMYK documents
A CMYK document that shows transparency is drawn once per ink plane
(complemented C, M, Y; complemented K as a grey) so every blend mode,
opacity, group, knockout and effect composites inks, PDF-style; the
planes' inks are shown through the working CMYK profile (cached 4-D XYZ
table). Cyan multiplied over magenta now shows C100 M100. Opacity masks
keep screen luminance; RGB colours and placed images are separated
first. RGB documents and opaque CMYK documents keep the screen-colour
path.

PDF export of CMYK documents writes its transparency groups with
/CS /DeviceCMYK (luminosity mask groups stay RGB) and puts top-level
transparency in a non-isolated page-wide group so it blends in CMYK too.
Flatten Transparency composites CMYK documents ink by ink and makes CMYK
regions. Non-separable modes no longer give NaN for greys.

Double-clicking a colour group's folder in the Swatches panel, or the options

Artwork on the group: without art the rows are the group's colours and OK

swatch.editGroup {group, colors, rename?} rewrites a group in order (art linked
to its global swatches follows); recolor.apply takes group, groupColors and
rename.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 fca068a0a7 M3.78: Recolor Artwork with colour reduction, methods, presets and Limit to Library
Recolor Artwork keys colours by identity (model and exact values), so CMYK
colours stay CMYK and lookalikes stay apart. recolor.reduce groups the
selection's colours into rows (k-means in Lab, weighted by use; tints of a
global swatch share its row) with Preserve White/Black/Grays and Limit to
Library; recolor.apply maps rows by Exact, Preserve Tints, Scale Tints, Tints
and Shades or Hue Shift; recolor.randomize shuffles or varies new colours.
The dialog has Assign (rows with merge, separate, exclude, randomize, method,
library) and Edit (hue/saturation wheel with linked or unlinked handles,
brightness, harmony rules) tabs, and Edit Colors gains Recolor with Preset
(1/2/3 Color Job, Color Library). Colour parameters accept colour keys.

the panels' toggles go through prefs.set.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 ea61d34a93 M3.85: spot colours defined in Lab, with Spot Colors options for Lab values or CMYK equivalents
Colours gain a CIE Lab model (`Color::Lab {l,a,b}`, serde tag `lab`), handled through the
CMS (display, separation, conversions, gamut), tints (toward paper white), keep_model, harmonies,
recolouring, blends, Info and the Color panel. Swatch Options gets a Lab mode
(`swatch.edit {mode: "lab"}` / `{color: {l,a,b}}`), and colour params accept `{l,a,b}`.

Swatches panel → Spot Colors… (`ui.spotColors`, dialog `spotColors`) runs `swatch.spotOptions
{useLab}` (Document.spot_use_lab, default on): Lab spot colours show and separate from their Lab
values, or art linked to them takes their working-CMYK equivalents, as one undo step. PDF export
writes Lab spot inks as Separation spaces with a Lab alternate (tint function from paper white),
or a DeviceCMYK one with CMYK equivalents.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 c1df6f0621 M3.77: [Registration] swatch on every plate, trim marks on every artboard, Japanese marks and live Crop Marks
[Registration] is a built-in swatch that prints 100% on every plate: Separations
Preview shows it on each process and spot plate and PDF export writes it as

swatch.list shows it after None and the Swatches panel applies it as a swatch.
Object > Create Trim Marks strokes the marks in Registration and marks every
artboard when nothing is selected ({style?, allArtboards?}). The preference
japaneseCropMarks (General) switches to Japanese marks: double lines at the
trim and bleed edges plus centre marks. Effect > Crop Marks (cropMarks) is a
live effect whose marks follow the object; rendering, SVG/PDF export and
Expand Appearance draw them. The mark geometry lives in doc::marks.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 be7006ccf5 M6.10: Boolean operations hold their area identities on almost-horizontal edges
The sweep compares a curve with another segment over a y-span shorter than
its tolerance by bounding boxes only, so an edge rising by less than that
tolerance (e.g. a rectangle edge cut through a circle's cap, whose computed
intersection end sits ~1e-12 off the horizontal) was mis-ordered and the
result lost a corner: xor/difference/area disagreed by up to 10%. Every
sweep input now snaps on-curve y values within the tolerance to one level
(handles follow and are levelled with their anchor), so such edges become
exact horizontals, which the sweep handles exactly.

- tests/regressions.rs: the six minimal failures found by the properties,
the root cause in isolation, and the self-crossing "star" polygon.
- The star-polygon strategy rejected no angular step of half a turn or
more, so it sometimes drew self-crossing polygons (the shoelace failure).
- Property suites run from a fixed seed (PROPTEST_CASES / PROPTEST_RNG_SEED
still override), so CI cannot fail at random.

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 705976fd96 M3.84: Object > Expand dialog; gradient fills expand to a mesh or N objects
Object > Expand… opens a purpose-built dialog (Object, Fill and Stroke
checkboxes, disabled when the selection has nothing for them; Expand
Gradient To: Gradient Mesh or Specify N Objects, default 255). Every
option now does something:
- Object: type to outlines, live shapes to paths, effects baked.
- Stroke: strokes outlined into filled paths.
- Fill: linear/radial gradient fills become N solid rectangles or
concentric ellipses, or a gradient mesh with lines where the colour
changes, inside a clip group shaped like the object; freeform
gradients become a mesh shaped like the object. Colours keep their
stops' colour model. With Fill off gradient fills stay live.
object.expand {} defaults match the dialog (stroke now defaults on);
new query object.expand.info and UI command ui.expandDialog.
Create Gradient Mesh on a gradient-filled object takes the colours the
gradient paints at each point (GradientMesh::for_path_with, from_grid,
highlight).

bflatasticandClaude Opus 5.5 3b2f46137a M3.89: a clipping path's fill paints behind the clipped art, its stroke over it
Paint given to a clipping path (paint commands with its id) now shows: its
fill paints inside the clip behind the clipped art and its stroke over the
art, unclipped, on the canvas and in SVG and PDF. Node::clip_paint splits the
clipping path into its fills and its strokes (type: its characters' too) for
all three outputs; the renderer caches the parts per clipping path. Clip group
visual bounds take in the stroke. Make Clipping Mask still leaves the clipping
path unpainted, as the reference app does; Ungroup no longer wipes a painted
clipping path's appearance (Release already kept it).
