Since baadbe2c6 a quick trace leaves the panel as it was (test a_quick_trace_leaves_the_panel_as_it_was) and the Image Trace button in the Control bar or Properties opens the controls. That matches the public documentation: choosing a preset traces the image with it straight away, and the panel is opened with the Image Trace button in the Control panel or the Properties panel's Image Trace section (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/image-trace-results-optimization.html).
