Delete the coverage tests, the per-language parity checks and the tests
of one language's exact wording. Catalog integrity, placeholder and
plural-form checks stay, as do the engine tests (locale resolution,
plural rules, fallback, language scoping, drawing in a language); those
compare against tr() or the plural rule rather than catalog wording.
Docs describe the report instead of a failing test.
swept_blocks_match_the_pixel_search skips the cases where the colour mode reaches extrude only
through a channel count and ink setting an earlier mode already covered. It and
damaged_layer_data_opens_flattened run a quarter of their cases per run, a different quarter each
UTC day (photocraft-testkit's Sweep). PHOTOCRAFT_FULL_SWEEP=1 runs every case, and
PHOTOCRAFT_SWEEP_PART=<n> replays the part a failing run printed.
cargo xtask test and the ci test step run cargo nextest over libs, bins and tests when nextest is
installed (cargo test otherwise, with a notice), then cargo test --doc. The wasm check is one
cargo check with --keep-going over the wasm-safe crates, plus one call per optional web feature.
Clippy runs with --keep-going.
- gpu: the test modules share one GPU_LOCK, and timing and vector_mask
take it too, so one process drives one wgpu device at a time.
- ui-egui: the wgpu tests in pattern_preview_canvas, adjust_preview_gpu,
marquee_autoscroll and layout_perf take gpu_lock().
- affinity compound_limits: the child process selects its test by the
module path (compound_limits::<name>); with --exact, the bare name
matches no test and the child passes without running the check.
- xtask scorecard reads crates/io/tests/it/corpus.rs.
- Docs and comments name the new test paths and the --test it filters.
crates/format/src/store.rs: kept both field sets in PcraftWriter::default (main's blob_hash_cache/compressed_budget and the PR's lock_wait) and both setters (set_compressed_cache_budget, set_lock_wait).
PhotoCraft reads GIMP's .xcf (and .xcf.gz) files, read only, through a new
reader in photocraft-io written from the public XCF specification: versions
0 to 26, uncompressed, RLE and zlib tiles, 8/16/32-bit integer and
16/32/64-bit float precisions (linear precisions get a linear profile),
pixel layers at any position, groups by item path with pass-through,
layer masks applied or disabled, opacity, visibility, locks, colour tags,
the 2.10 and legacy blend modes mapped to Photoshop's (modes without an
equivalent open as Normal with a note), the ICC profile, resolution,
guides, the comment, extra channels and the saved selection; indexed
images open as RGB. Text, vector and link layers open as their pixels;
layer effects, paths and floating selections are reported.
Fixtures are written by GIMP 3.2 itself (scripts/xcf_fixtures.py), each
with GIMP's merged rendering as a PNG. In gamma-encoded blend and
composite spaces our composite matches GIMP within 0.5/255; GIMP's
linear-light default, its Clip to backdrop and its clamp-after-alpha
for unbounded modes are documented and measured in docs/xcf.md.
layer.smartObjects.replaceContents takes an ambient path and is refused in
serve/mcp. Add the capability-scoped sibling of doc.place: the file is read
beneath --automation-read-root and handed to the command's own core, as an
RPC method (doc.replaceSmartObject) and an MCP tool (doc_replace_smart_object).
Conflict in apps/photocraft/src/main.rs: main added
`app.perf.gpu_info.set_available(&rs.available_adapters)` where this branch
installs the texel guard; both are kept (set_available first, then
texel_guard::install).

Resolve conflicts with #4's "Auto on Windows leaves Vulkan out when an
Intel adapter is present" (3c9c93ed) and #7813's adapter choice
(`configure` gained `wanted`):
- gpu_startup.rs: `intel_dx12_applied(.., vulkan_left_out)` from main and
the patch's `dx12_default_applied` become one
`dx12_default_applied(adapters, chosen, os, vulkan_left_out)` that
returns the maker's name (Intel or Qualcomm). `vulkan_left_out` counts
only for Intel, since only an Intel DXGI adapter makes
`windows_auto_backends` drop Vulkan. `configure` keeps main's `wanted`
parameter and Vulkan-free instance; the System Info note names the maker.
- Tests: keep both main's Intel instance test and the Qualcomm test,
updated to the merged signature, plus one assertion that Vulkan being
left out doesn't make a Qualcomm DX12 pick "the default".
- Module docs and docs/development.md: main's wording, with Qualcomm
(Windows on ARM) added to the DX12 default.

fill_to (Paint Bucket export): keep main's `source` alias and explicit
colour (`Usng` = `Clr ` plus `Clr `, #7199) together with the PR's
optional `Tlrn`/`AntA`.

On a Windows ARM64 PC the Qualcomm Vulkan driver lost the device
mid-session (Layer Style > Inner Shadow edits), the window's egui-wgpu
renderer panicked on the lost device and PhotoCraft exited. With the
backend set to DirectX 12 the reporter could not reproduce it.
`auto` already ranks DX12 before Vulkan for Intel on Windows. Extend that
rule to Qualcomm, matching both the id its Vulkan driver reports (0x5143)
and the one DXGI reports ("QCOM", 0x4D4F4351). System Info names the
maker in its note.

- Subtract submit_ms when checking the execution window in gpu_time_tracks_execution_not_submission (wall_ms - submit_ms < 3.0 * submit_ms).
- Document clang-cl requirement for Windows on ARM64 (aarch64-pc-windows-msvc) builds in docs/development.md.
- Add [people.mweinbach] to contributors/people.toml per AGENTS.md.
The Preferences row was Linux-only, but PHOTOCRAFT_GPU_ADAPTER and
performance.gpuAdapter were honoured on every platform, so Windows and macOS
could pick a non-default adapter without being tested for it. Ignore the
request off Linux (and in CPU mode, as before), and don't make a launch
standalone for a variable that is ignored there.

- cargo fmt on the adapter selection and its launch code.
- PHOTOCRAFT_GPU_ADAPTER is capped at 256 characters like the saved preference.
- Put the multi-GPU paragraph in docs/development.md on its own instead of
appending to the --safe-gpu paragraph, so the diff only adds lines.

With the backend on auto, Linux installed no adapter selector, so wgpu took
the first discrete GPU the driver listed. On a machine with an eGPU, a
laptop dGPU and an iGPU that was not the one the user wanted.
- performance.gpuAdapter: a case-insensitive piece of the adapter's name
(several words must all appear); empty is automatic.
- PHOTOCRAFT_GPU_ADAPTER overrides it for one launch.
- Preferences > Performance > Advanced > GPU adapter lists the adapters the
instance found; a saved adapter that is absent stays listed, marked.
- A missing adapter, or one that can't present to the window, falls back to
the automatic choice with a note in System Info. CPU mode ignores it.
- Shown on Linux only; tested on Linux only. Windows and macOS need their own
work (the startup code honours the setting there, but it is untested).

#3755's hand-off listens on a loopback port, and every `flatpak run` gets
its own network namespace, so inside the sandbox the second launch could
never reach the first and opened a separate window. When FLATPAK_ID and
XDG_RUNTIME_DIR are set the primary now listens on
$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/app/<app id>/instance.sock (0600), a directory every
sandbox of the app shares, and records "socket" instead of "port" in
instance.json. The lock, token, client cap, deadlines and reply are
unchanged; a crashed primary's socket file is unlinked under the lock,
and shutdown removes the socket.
When the window's own wgpu device was lost (a driver reset, e.g. after sleep), egui-wgpu could
not draw another frame: a frame with shapes panicked inside it ("Failed to create staging buffer
for index data", #1215, exit 101, unsaved work lost), and a frozen window's close button opened
an unsaved-changes prompt nobody could see (#3438). The #243 fallback only covered the canvas.
- DeviceHealth::device_lost (wgpu reported the loss, not a recorded fault) and ::probe (a
non-blocking poll that keeps running after a recorded fault).
- RecoveryStore::flush: finish queued autosaves and wait for them.
- gpu_status::check_window, at the end of every frame: once the window's device is lost the
frame draws nothing; the first time every unsaved document is written to crash recovery
(Services::flush_autosaves) and the app closes without asking. The next launch reopens them.
- The app watches the window device on the CPU canvas too; ui.gpu.simulateLoss {destroy: true}
destroys the real device to drive the path.
Verified on an RX 6900 XT, Vulkan and DX12: destroying the device in the running app exited 101
with the egui-wgpu panic before, and now exits 0 with the document recovered on the next launch.
With the `auto` backend on Windows, eframe created its wgpu instance with
Vulkan, and creating it, listing its adapters and asking each adapter
about the window's surface loaded and ran the Intel Vulkan driver
(igvk64.dll) before the adapter selector could pick Intel's DX12
adapter. When the driver crashed there, the first launch died, and only
the next one moved to DX12 through the startup marker.
`configure` now lists the DX12 adapters first, with a DX12-only
instance, when the plan is `auto` on Windows without WGPU_BACKEND. If
one of them is an Intel adapter, the instance is created with DX12 and
GL only (GL stays the last resort), so no Vulkan driver is loaded. On a
system with an Intel and a discrete GPU, the discrete GPU then runs on
DX12 instead of Vulkan. WGPU_BACKEND, --safe-gpu, a chosen backend and
the crash fallback are unchanged, and System Info still shows the Intel
DirectX 12 note.
The decision is `windows_auto_backends`, tested with vendor lists.
Main prints through craft-print, which runs `lp`; a Flatpak has no `lp`,
so File › Print fails there. This keeps craft-print as the route wherever
`lp` is on the path (and on Windows) and adds two more behind it:
- `photocraft-ipp`, a pure-Rust IPP client (CUPS-Get-Printers/Classes/
Default, Print-Job over HTTP/1.1) that talks to CUPS over its socket or
TCP; the Flatpak manifests grant --socket=cups for it. A `printServer`
named in the request always takes this route. `file.print.printers`
lists the queues.
- The XDG Print portal as the app's spooler (`Session::print_spooler`),
for a sandbox without the CUPS socket or a system without a printer:
the system print dialog, seeded with copies, paper and orientation.
PHOTOCRAFT_PRINT_PORTAL=1 prefers it, =0 removes it.
A route that exists but fails (unknown printer, refused job) is an error;
only a missing route moves on. Results gain `backend` (lp, windows, ipp,
portal). docs/printing.md describes the routes.
logging::rotate renamed photocraft.log up the chain on every start without
knowing whether another instance still wrote to it. The running instance
kept its handle, so after a second launch its live log was .1.log, after a
third .2.log, and a fourth launch deleted it.
The instance that writes photocraft.log now holds an exclusive lock on
photocraft.lock until it exits (a separate file, since Windows locks are
mandatory and would keep the log itself from being opened). A start that
finds that lock held leaves the chain alone and writes
photocraft-<pid>.log, marked by photocraft-<pid>.lock. Those side-by-side
logs are pruned to the newest KEEP once their instances have exited; a
held one is never touched. Rotation and pruning run under rotate.lock so
two starts at once can't interleave. On a file system without locks every
start rotates as before.
With a document open in the web app, Place Embedded was disabled because its menu enablement inherited the engine's native-filesystem check, although the menu path reads the picker's bytes and never touches a path. Place Embedded is now enabled whenever a document and a file-dialog service exist; Place Linked keeps the engine's native guard, since the web could only link to a bare file name (caught in #5817 by Higgs32584). An enablement test runs with the native check forced off, and a file-dialog test covers the browser answer shape, cancel, invalid bytes and the Free Transform handoff.
