* M6: renaming a field renames it in the calculations that read it
A rename silently broke every formula that used the field: a sum dropped
it, notation read it as 0 and a script kept a stale value. set_props now
rewrites the name in each field's Calculate script, in the same edit:
AFSimple_Calculate field lists, simplified field notation (the BVCALC
comment and its translation) and getField calls naming it in one string
literal. The rest of each script is kept as written; names built at run
time, non-UTF-8 script streams and a name another field still has are
left alone, and a self-check keeps a script whose meaning would change.
Notation is read by one lexer shared by notation_js, eval_notation and
the rename. form_set_props returns formulas_updated; Field Properties
says how many calculations now use the new name.

* M6: calculation order: read, check, fix and set the order fields calculate in
A form's calculations run in its calculation order (/CO), which a field
joins when it gets a calculation, so a chain defined in the wrong order
shows stale values. calculation_order reads the order against the fields,
with what each formula reads (field lists, notation names, literal getField
names) and what is wrong: a field reading one that calculates later, a loop
(strongly connected components, found without recursion), a field /CO
leaves out, and /CO entries that calculate nothing. Fix order is a stable
topological sort that moves only what must move and leaves loops alone.
set_calculation_order writes /CO afresh; a name two fields share (a
malformed form) stands for the next of them in the current order.
Edit::SetCalculationOrder sets it in one undo step and recalculates, and
form_calculation_order reads, sets, moves one field or fixes the order
headlessly. An edited formula now keeps its field's place in /CO, a field
/CO lists twice calculates once, and recalculation runs each field by
object, so two fields sharing a name both calculate. The /CO code of the
Calculate tab, field scripts and recalculation goes through one place.

Appearance text in a simple font was measured with Helvetica's widths,
whatever the font: a bold or Times caption or value came out narrower
than drawn, so centered and right-aligned text slid right of where it
belongs. Text is now measured with the font's /Widths, or a standard
font's published widths.
Button appearances always drew the caption in regular Helvetica, sized
from the button's height, whatever the field's /DA asked for: DA Form
31's 'Attachments Menu' (9 pt bold) came out at 4 pt. The caption now
takes the /DA's font from the form's /DR, its size (an automatic size
still fits the button) and its color, as text fields already do.
* M6: a date typed without separators fills a yyyymmdd field
parse_date read each run of digits as one number, so 20261018 in a
yyyymmdd field was a single number with nothing left for the month and
the day, and the keystroke check refused it. Every date field on forms
that use the YYYYMMDD date format (US Army forms such as DA Form 31 among
them) refused every valid date.
order() now records each field's fixed width (4 for yyyy; 2 for yy, mm,
dd, HH, MM and ss) and whether the next field follows with nothing in
between. parse_date keeps runs of digits as text and splits a run between
such joined fields by those widths. Formats with separators, month names,
literal digits (dd.mm.26) and two-digit years behave as before.
A run of digits too long for a u32 used to be dropped silently, which let
"2026 99999999999" pass for yyyy; it is now read like any other number and
refused when it is left over or does not fit.
* chore(contributors): credit Eric Kaden by real name
* M6: separated runs of digits stay whole in a joined date format
With separators each run of digits is one field's number, as before this
branch: "2026-10-18" in a yymmdd field reads the year 2026, where the
first commit split the run into 20 and 26 and refused the date. A run is
now split between joined fields only when fewer runs were typed than the
fields still to fill, so "2610" and "261018" still split.
* M6: what is left of a split run of digits fills its field exactly
"202610018" in a yyyymmdd field split off 2026 and 10 and read the rest,
018, as day 18, so a nine-digit date passed. The rest of a split run now
has to be its field's width; a number typed on its own ("2026 10 018")
keeps its leeway.
* M6: a number typed on its own is split only when its rest fills the next field
The optional time fields of a format like yyyymmddHHMM counted as fields
still to fill, so "2026 10 018" split the day 018 into 01 and 8 and was
refused; on main the time defaults to 00:00. A run typed on its own is
now split only when what is left can fill the next field; the rest of a
run that was already split is split as before.
* M6: describe the undelimited-date tests without naming one form
The tests and their comments now say what they check (fields written side by side, such as yyyymmdd) instead of naming the form that showed the problem, and use a generic field label.
* M6: count date and time fields apart when deciding to split a run
Optional time fields counted towards the fields still to fill, so
"2026-10-18" in a yymmddHHMM field split the year into 20 and 26 and was
refused, where main reads it with the time left out. A run typed on its
own is now matched against the fields of its own kind: date runs against
date fields, time runs against time fields. What is left of a split run
goes on being split along the fields written side by side, so
"20261018143005" still fills yyyymmddHHMMss. A mix such as
"2026 1018 1430" (year apart, month and day joined, then a time) is still
refused, as on main.

Review follow-up (CodeRabbit on #3475). A form edit refreshes the display
copy on every keystroke, and with /NeedAppearances that redrew every field
of the form: 68 ms per edit on a 1000-field form against 7 ms on main.
FieldAppearanceCache keeps each widget's drawing with the objects it was
drawn from: the widget and its field ancestors, the form dictionary and
the fonts of its /DR, each with the objects its entries refer to. An
entry is used only while each of them is still the same object
(Arc::ptr_eq); the document replaces an object it edits, so a changed
input is a miss, never a stale hit. The engine keeps one per editor. A
field edit on that form now takes 13 ms.
The repair note on a failed display write now names field appearances
too.

A form with /NeedAppearances true (ISO 32000-2 Table 224: the writer
"has not provided appearance streams for all visible widget
annotations") showed its text fields empty: PdfCraft only read the flag
when writing, and the display copy that draws missing appearances skips
widgets. Filled forms from tools that leave drawing to the viewer looked
blank, while Acrobat, Firefox and MuPDF show the values.
pdfcraft_forms::with_field_appearances returns a copy with text and
choice widgets drawn from their values (every one when the flag is set,
otherwise those with no /AP /N), with the generator a typed value uses.
The engine's display copy (page view, page images, Print as Image, CLI
render) applies it after the comment appearances. The document itself
is not changed, so saving writes the file as it was.

now looked up through the font's encoding first; /Widths still go by code, and
Symbol, ZapfDingbats and glyphs WinAnsi has no code for keep the code itself.

Field detection read a path as a rectangle only when it had exactly four
corners, and gave up on a subpath once it reached five points. The French
income tax form 2042 draws its letter cells with a midpoint on each
vertical side (six points), so most of its cells were not found.
A subpath now keeps up to 16 points, and a point lying on a straight side
between its neighbours is dropped before the four-corner test. A point
that turns back along a side is not between its neighbours and stays, so
a path that doubles back is still not a box.

Renaming a field changes only its own /T, so MASTER.a renamed to b
becomes MASTER.b. set_props compared the bare new partial name with the
other fields' fully qualified names: renaming MASTER.a to b succeeded
while MASTER.b existed, leaving two fields with one fully qualified
name, which are one field with a shared value (ISO 32000-2 §12.7.4.2);
and renaming MASTER.a to c was refused because of an unrelated
top-level field c.
The check now compares the new full name, leaving the field itself out
so a kid keeping its own partial name still succeeds, and the error
names that full name. Top-level renames are checked as before.
* M6: make list boxes directly selectable and scroll to selection (#1524)
- In-place selection: List boxes are rendered directly on the page and
selectable in place. Clicking an option row selects it immediately;
Ctrl/Cmd-clicking toggles items in multi-select lists, and Shift-clicking
selects ranges, without opening a popup menu.
- Appearance and scroll (/TI): When options are selected, /TI (top index)
is automatically adjusted so the selected items are scrolled into view
within the widget's visible rows, and option rows and selection highlights
are drawn into the appearance stream.
- Unit and UI tests: Added tests in pdfcraft-forms verifying /TI scrolling
and appearance generation for multi-select lists, and UI tests in
pdfcraft-ui-egui covering in-place click and Ctrl-click toggling.
Also ensured test harness in reload.rs explicitly sets language to en.
Fixes#1524
* List boxes: keep the engine's page appearance, consume arrow keys
Drop the overpaint of every fillable list box with an egui mock (it ignored the
PDF's fonts, colours and /MK /R; the engine redraws the appearance with the new
/TI), and consume ArrowUp/ArrowDown in the list overlay so they don't also
scroll the page.

document_scripts_named walked the catalog's /Names /JavaScript tree by
resolving and deep-cloning every kid onto its stack before looking at it.
The 10,000 cap counted nodes taken off the stack, not what went on it, so a
node whose /Kids lists itself k times pushed k full copies of itself (each
holding its k-entry /Kids array) per visit. A 6.5 KB file with k = 1000 made
`pdfcraft-cli run` (doc_open, js_document_scripts) exhaust an 8 GB address
space in 8 seconds and abort; the same walk runs when a field edit sets up
the script runner. A tree that lists a leaf twice returned its script twice.
Keep kids unresolved on the stack and skip references already read, as the
/Dests walker in organize does. The cap stays.

calculate_js wrote a field's simplified field notation as
"/** BVCALC expr EVCALC **/ event.value = AFMakeNumber(0);". PdfCraft reads the
comment, but a viewer that runs the script instead (Acrobat among them) computed
0. notation_js now writes Acrobat's own translation after the comment: each
field name becomes AFMakeNumber(this.getField("name").value), with \ escapes
in names honoured, numbers and operators kept.

Auto-size fields (`0 Tf`, often inherited from the AcroForm /DA) fit their
value to the box in the page appearance, but the in-place editor and the
preview shown before the page re-renders ignored it: they used a fixed guess
from the box height, never shrank to the width and never wrapped multiline
text, so long values ran past the box and were clipped.
The fit now lives in one place, `appearance::auto_text_size_by` (re-exported
as `field_auto_text_size_by`). The page appearance measures with Helvetica;
the screen measures with the interface font it draws in, which is wider and
breaks lines differently, so the text stays inside the box on screen too. The
editor wraps at the same scaled width the size was fitted to. Explicit sizes
are unchanged and still clip, as in Acrobat.
Tests: forms auto_text_size_fits_single_and_multiline_text (incl. NaN/inf/
negative boxes and a NaN measurer); ui-egui
auto_size_fields_shrink_and_wrap_typed_text_to_fit_their_box (fails with the
old on-screen sizing restored).

add_field gave text and date fields a fixed /Helv 12 Tf, which is clipped in
a box shorter than 12 pt, and a script can't see the clipping. They now get
/Helv 0 Tf (Auto), as Acrobat's new text fields do: 12 pt where there is
room, smaller where there isn't. An explicit size set afterwards still wins;
choice fields keep 12 pt.

Field detection read only vector data: text-layer words and drawn
rectangles and lines. A scanned form is a single picture, so it found
nothing there.
A page that an image covers at least half of, and whose content draws
no lines, is now rendered at 144 dpi and its shapes are read from the
pixels (pdfcraft_forms::detect::raster): ink against a local mean,
long thin runs as lines, enclosed rectangular patches of paper as
boxes, the empty band of a box with a small printed label as its
writing area, and the open-ended horizontal lines as rules. Labels come
from the text layer, else from OCR when the models are installed;
without either the fields get default names. Detection works in the
displayed frame, so a scan stored sideways reads like any other, and
fields on a turned page get /MK /R so typing reads upright.

The commit-time Keystroke check returned an empty value for any
whitespace-only text before looking at the field's format, so setting a
space, a tab or a non-breaking space in a plain text field reported
success and removed the field's value. Text and XFDF imports go through
the same setter and lost the value the same way.
Blank input now clears only a field with a format (number, percent,
date, time, special or mask), as before; a field without one stores the
text as given. An empty value still clears any field.
Adds tests::whitespace_only_text_is_kept_in_a_field_without_a_format
and a keystroke assertion in af::tests::numbers_format_like_acrobat,
both of which fail before this change.
The field reader dropped the value "Off" for every field kind, so a
text field, combo box or single-select list set to "Off" read as empty
and exported an empty value to CSV, text, XML, XFDF and FDF, although
the document stored it. "Off" is now treated as no value only for
check boxes and radio buttons, where it is the off state.
Adds tests::a_literal_off_value_reads_as_off_outside_buttons, which
fails before this change.
set_props with a complete look read the widget's /MK without resolving
it, so an indirect one started from an empty dictionary: a check box
lost its Cross mark, its 90-degree rotation and any unknown entry, and
the loss survived a save. The /MK is now resolved first, as the
check_style branch already does; a direct /MK behaves as before.
Adds tests::a_whole_look_keeps_the_rest_of_an_indirect_mk, which fails
before this change.
A date field formatted "dd.mm.26" (a leave form fixing the year) rejected
"15.05.26": parse_date read three numbers but the format only asked for a
day and a month. Digit runs in the format are now literal tokens that may
be typed or left out; a different number in their place is still rejected.

Export Data on an XFA form writes its data as Acrobat does: XML (the
data alone, rooted at the form's root data node, its namespaces
declared) or an XDP holding the whole datasets and a reference to the
PDF (.xdp, a new format). Import Data takes an XDP, a datasets or data element, or a
data document whose root is the form's root data node, and makes it
the form's whole data, keeping data descriptions; a laid-out form is
laid out again from it (rows added and removed) and its calculations
run; XFDF, FDF and tables still go the AcroForm way. Undoable.
Image fields are now buttons marked /PCXfaImage (no PDF action): the
forms layer treats one as an image field, so clicking it (or
form_set_image) picks a picture, which is kept in the data as base64
with its xfa:contentType, as Designer saves it, and the laid-out form
shows it from there.
xfa: replace_data, write_data_image (hostile content types cleaned,
32 MB cap), export_data, import_data (64 MB cap, the parser's node
limit, self-closing data elements). engine: export routing by
document kind, import routing by the file's root element, re-layout
and calculation after the data changes outside the fields, the
picture's content type from its bytes. UI: XML and XDP in the export
dialog of an XFA form, .xdp in the import filter. Tool texts, README
and parity (form.xfa-data) updated.
Hardened after an adversarial review pass: the file's data is held as
a tree and written with the packet's own namespace prefix (never its
markup), every packet rewrite is parsed back before it is written,
files capped at 16 MB and 64 levels (a tag scan before the recursive
parser, also guarding the datasets parser), pictures at 8 MB and PNG/
JPEG/GIF only, the file's shape and root name checked, UTF-16 and
ISO-8859-1 decoded, pictures into data groups refused, cleaned names
for pictures, static forms empty the fields the file doesn't hold,
more rows than the layout cap reported, one datasets stream per edit,
and only image fields take pictures into the data.
