* M10: odd and even pages are page numbers, as Acrobat counts them (#3984)
Even pages only with the range 4–11 printed pages 5, 7, 9 and 11: `narrow` took odd and
even places in the chosen pages, and its comment said Acrobat does the same. Acrobat
counts page numbers: "if you set the range to 2, 7–10 and choose Even Pages Only, only
pages 2, 8, and 10 print" (Adobe Acrobat DC Help, last updated 11/28/2019, Options in the
Print dialog box, p. 515; the same example in Using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, p. 413). Odd and
even now keep the pages whose number is odd or even, for a typed range, picked thumbnails
and the current page alike, in the order given, and Reverse turns that round. The header,
footer and watermark ranges (marks_ui) and Extract's odd/even filter in #3729 already
count page numbers.
The new test pins Acrobat's example and the report's ranges. select_listed's tests and
cut_stack_printing_through_tools counted places; the latter now asks for even pages of
2–10, which by page number are the 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 it printed before, so its expected
output is unchanged and would fail with places (3, 5, 7, 9).

* M10: say that odd and even are page numbers in doc_print, and what page labels still lack (#3984)
Review on #4034: the doc_print description says odd/even count page numbers, and the parity note says a document with page labels still counts page numbers there, which the Acrobat help consulted doesn't settle.

* M10: cite the cut-stack print test at its path under tests/it (#3984)
main moved the automation integration tests into tests/it, so the
evidence path added for odd/even printing no longer existed and
`cargo xtask parity` failed after the rebase.

#4114 moves the bodies of Stream::decoded_within and decoded_strict into
decoded_within_typed and decoded_strict_within_typed, which return
FilterError so DecodeBudget can tell a spent limit from corrupt data.
This branch checks /Filter with readable_filters there. Kept #4114's
typed functions and made readable_filters return
FilterError::Unsupported, so a /Filter that is not a name fails both
typed decodes without charging the budget; decoded_first_filter_strict
maps it to CosError as before.
Redaction reads page content and form XObjects strictly (upstream) and
within one page's decode budget (this branch): both now go through
DecodeBudget::decode_strict.
page_form listed every page of the document to take the one it
printed, so imposing P pages walked the page tree and copied its leaf
dictionaries P times over: P^2 page copies. impose passes the list it
already holds. A page index outside it is an error, not a panic.
Pages printed as pictures were drawn with everything on them, so form fields only
printed the page content, and the document with stamps printed every comment. The
pictures are drawn from a copy holding only what the vector print draws.
Printing and the label text-direction check decoded every /Contents
entry with a fresh 1 GiB allowance, and the direction check re-entered
forms at every Do with only a depth limit, so a few hundred bytes of
nested repeated draws meant hundreds of thousands of form walks. Both
charge a per-page DecodeBudget: printing refuses a page whose content
runs past it, and the direction check stops reading there.

docs/roadmap.md: kept main's status lines and M8/M9/M10 rows (main had merged the duplicate M8

crates/print/src/tests.rs: the CUPS tests call printer_options_via_within with LIMIT and "en";
kept both sides' new tests.
crates/ui-egui/src/print_ui.rs: kept the background read (#2108); its default source reads

Review follow-up on #2108:
- output_within waited on the reader thread with join, so a process the
command started could hold the output pipe, and the wait, long past the
limit after the command exited or was killed. The output now comes back
over a channel with recv_timeout; such a reader finishes on its own.
- the printer-list and options workers ask for a frame from a guard
dropped on exit, also when the source panics, so an idle dialog sees
the closed channel without waiting for another event.

The Print dialog's Properties… ran lpoptions on the GUI thread with no
deadline, so a CUPS that stopped answering froze the window. The read
now runs on its own thread (the panel says so meanwhile, and a read
that dies offers nothing rather than waiting), and lpoptions gets ten
seconds through spool::output_within, which kills and reaps a command
at its deadline; the PPD's own defaults then stand. One UI string in
the 21 catalogues.

CUPS drivers ship their names in other languages as PPD localization lines
(`*cupsLanguages`, `*de.Translation KMDuplex/Druckart: ""`, `*de.KMDuplex
Double/2-seitig: ""`), which the system print dialog uses. PdfCraft showed the
PPD's default (English) names in every language. `spool::printer_options_in`
now applies the lines for the UI language (`pt-br` → `pt_BR`, then `pt`;
`zh-hans` → `zh_CN`) to option, group and choice names. Each line is decoded as
UTF-8 on its own, as drivers write them in otherwise Latin-1 files; missing or
empty translations keep the driver's name. `printer_options` (automation) is
unchanged.

* Print: 4 x 6 in label paper and a Label layout for shipping labels
Thermal label printers (e.g. VEVOR Y486) could not be used for eBay/carrier
labels: the paper list had no 4 x 6 in size, the chosen paper was never sent
to CUPS (the queue's default was used), and labels laid out sideways on a
Letter/A4 sheet printed small or rotated.
- PAPERS gains "4 x 6 in label (101.6 x 152.4 mm)"; cups_media() sends the
chosen sheet to the spooler as `-o media=` (Letter, Legal, Tabloid, A3-A5
and w288h432 for the label), so the driver feeds the size the PDF was
laid out on.
- New Layout::Label: each page is cut to its printed area (a low-resolution
render, as Fit Visible does), turned a quarter turn when it is sideways in
the direction that makes its text upright (text_reads_up reads the text
and form matrices), and fitted uniformly with a small margin. Vector
content is kept, so barcodes stay sharp and undistorted. "Turn upside
down" flips it 180 degrees. One label per sheet.
- Choosing the label paper selects the Label layout, and vice versa.
- Strings translated in every bundled catalog.
Tests: label geometry (crop, quarter turns, no stretching, margins),
cups_media, text direction; print, ui-egui and automation unit tests pass.

* M10: Windows print jobs show per-sheet progress; printers list faster
Follow-up to #944, carrying the two parts main doesn't have yet.
- The progress card follows a job being spooled and counts its sheets
as they reach the spooler ("Sending sheet 2 of 3 to Office…"), using
craft-print's new submit_with_progress. It replaces the "Sending to…"
toast, leaves another long job's card alone, and goes when the job
ends; the spooler's answer is still a notice.
- craft-print bumped to storytold/craft-libs#27, which also lists
Windows printers through .NET's PrinterSettings (the API jobs spool
with) instead of a CIM query of Win32_Printer.
- "Sending sheet {s} of {n} to {printer}…" in all 20 catalogs.

The print-ready PDF that `pdfcraft_print::impose` builds starts from a new
catalog with only /Type and /Pages, so the document's /OCProperties was not
carried over. The pages' marked content still refers to its optional-content
groups, but nothing said a group was off, so a layer that is switched off in
the document (and not drawn on screen) was printed anyway.
Keep /OCProperties in the new catalog, so the sheets hide the same layers the
document hides. Test: a one-page document whose red square is in a layer; with
the layer off by default it is not drawn on screen and, now, not on the
printed sheet; with the layer on it is drawn in both.
Printing still follows the layers' default state only; applying the Print
event of /AS (a layer shown only on screen or only in print) is not done here.
Adopt the canonical craft-print revision from craft-libs #28 so Windows printing uses the in-process Windows.Data.Pdf/XPS backend instead of PowerShell. Keep exact paper, orientation and scaling validation and the existing PDFCraft composition and permission checks.
Pin the reviewed winprint fork, scope its compile-time licence/advisory exceptions, and distinguish the earlier WDAC Sandbox exercise from the final pinned revision's Windows CI coverage. Physical printer output remains unverified.
Add worker-barrier regressions for Home-selected tool handoff and startup document ordering.

Layout::multiple(n) maps counts without a fixed grid to a near-square
grid (3 -> 2x2, 5 -> 3x2), but Layout::Multiple kept only the grid, so
layout() filled every cell: three per sheet put four pages on a sheet.
Layout::Multiple now carries per_sheet, capped by the grid; spare cells
stay blank and cut-stack piles use the same count. The doc_print tool
and the print dialog pass the count through.

A poster scale large enough to make both tile counts saturate at
usize::MAX overflowed when they were multiplied for the 1024-sheet
check: a panic with overflow checks, and a product that wraps to 1
without them, which let the sheet loops run. The headless doc_print
tool accepts any finite positive scale, so a script could reach it.
Multiply with checked_mul and treat an overflow as over the limit, so
the request gets the existing "more than 1024 sheets" error.
Adds tests::huge_posters_are_refused_at_the_sheet_limit, which panics
before this change and passes with and without overflow checks after it.

* M10: print from the web build through the browser's print dialog (gap 4)
The web build had no printer: spool::submit refuses on wasm, so Print
could only download the print-ready PDF. Now its Print dialog offers
"Browser's print dialog" (the default there), which reaches every
printer the operating system knows.
- web_print: PdfCraft draws the print-ready PDF's sheets itself
(engine Exporter), one sheet a frame since wasm has no threads:
300 dpi up to 100 sheets, 200 up to 300, 150 up to 1,000, at most
64 MP a sheet and 1 GiB of PNGs a job. The PNGs become blob URLs
and print from a hidden srcdoc iframe, one sheet per page, margin 0.
- Chromium prints every page at the default @page size, so a sheet of
the paper's size turned sideways is rotated 90 degrees CCW onto it
(as drivers do); other sizes get named @page rules.
- Copies, two-sided and colour are greyed out (the browser's dialog
sets them). If print() is refused (e.g. a sandboxed frame), the
print-ready PDF downloads instead, with the reason.
- pdfcraft-print stays free of web APIs; six new strings in all 20
catalogs (ATTRIBUTION hashes refreshed); docs and parity updated,
gap 4 closed.
Verified in headless Chromium against a trunk build: three sheets at
300 dpi, the landscape sheet turned, no blank trailing page, and the
download fallback. Firefox and Safari not yet tried.

The print script mapped "Flip on long edge" to System.Drawing's Duplex.Horizontal and
"short edge" to Vertical. Those are DEVMODE's DMDUP_HORIZONTAL (short-edge binding) and
DMDUP_VERTICAL (long-edge binding), so every Windows two-sided job bound on the other edge:
a PCL driver received @PJL SET BINDING = TOP for long edge. They are swapped back.
Win32_Printer's Capabilities say whether a driver prints two-sided (3, Duplex Printing). The
printer list already comes from Win32_Printer, so it now carries that as Printer::two_sided
(None on CUPS), the printers tool reports it, and the Print dialog notes when the selected
printer's driver doesn't take two-sided settings and points to Properties…. Such drivers keep
their own setting even with Two-sided Off. No vendor-specific names are used.

* i18n: let the layers below hand their sentences over, so they can be translated
The accessibility findings, the PDF/A problems, the signature details, the
page-range mistakes and the edit labels were English in all ten languages,
because matching their wording from the UI with a tl! literal would break
silently whenever the engine changed it.
So each layer now hands the wording over instead, apart from the document's
own words: a WORDINGS list of every sentence it can say, with holes in it, and
said(&words), which looks the wording up through the closure it is given and
fills the holes in a single pass. in_english changes nothing, for the CLI and
the tests; the UI passes &i18n::words, a catalog lookup. A wording with no
entry comes back as it stands, which is the English, so the nine catalogs this
does not touch read exactly as before.
a11y::report_html takes a language tag and a words closure, so a saved report
reads the way the panel read, down to its lang attribute. print::PrintError
gained a variant per thing a person can be wrong about, with the numbers apart
from the words; faults rather than mistakes keep their own text.
Spanish translates all of it (107 entries). spanish_covers_what_the_engine_says
requires an entry per wording in the eight lists and
spanish_keeps_the_holes_in_what_the_engine_says requires the holes to survive
the translation, so the catalog cannot fall behind the engine unnoticed.
No new tl! literal, so the Chinese, French and Russian UI-literal gates are
unaffected.

`powershell_command` passed the bare name "powershell" to
`std::process::Command::new`. On Windows, Rust resolves a bare name in the
directory of the running executable before System32
(https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/process/struct.Command.html, "Platform-specific
behavior"), so a powershell.exe sitting beside a portable pdfcraft.exe ran
instead of Windows PowerShell, for every printer list and every print job.
Seen in Windows Sandbox against bbbe600 with a harmless stand-in exe: the
Print dialog listed the stand-in's output as the printer and Print "sent" to
it.
Name it by its full path under %SystemRoot%, the way `open_printer_preferences`
already names rundll32 in the same file. The same Sandbox test against this
build: the stand-in beside the app never runs, the real printer is listed and
the job spools.
Regression test: `windows_starts_powershell_by_its_full_path` (red with the
bare name, green with the fix). Not in any release yet: #847 is on main only.
Co-authored-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* M10: Windows printing prints at actual size, off the UI thread (follow-up to #847)
- Sheets print at 100% on the driver's paper closest to their size, landscape
when wide, instead of being shrunk into .NET's default 1-inch margins
(about 76% on Letter) and never rotated. Each sheet is capped at ~64 MP so a
poster-sized sheet can't exhaust memory.
- PowerShell runs with CREATE_NO_WINDOW: the release app has no console, so
Windows opened one over the app for the whole job.
- The Print dialog lists printers in the background (the desktop app's
printer_source) and spools jobs on a worker thread, so Ctrl+P and long jobs
no longer freeze the UI. A list arriving late preselects the default only if
the user hasn't picked a printer.
- Parity evidence named a test that #847 renamed; xtask parity passes again.
The raster-only limit is now stated in the parity notes and README.

* Print: Windows lists its printers and spools jobs (#756)
The Print dialog's printer list comes from Win32_Printer through PowerShell's
CIM (wmic is gone from Windows 11), and jobs are spooled by the embedded
windows_print.ps1: the in-box Windows.Data.Pdf renders each sheet at the
printer's own resolution and System.Drawing.Printing carries copies,
collation, duplex and colour as the job's settings. Both run through
powershell, so the Rust code touches no Win32 API. Fixes#756, with the
printer-not-showing duplicates #160, #244, #293, #465 and #644; CIM approach
from #452. On CI a paused Generic / Text Only test printer catches the job in
its queue; a parser test keeps the script valid PowerShell.
* Print: fix the Windows await helper and render the job on CI (dry run)
Real-machine testing found [System.WindowsRuntimeSystemExtensions]::GetMethods()
failing with 'does not contain a method named GetMethods': GetMethods is an
instance method of [Type], so it is called with '.', the form the canonical
WinRT-await snippets use, not '::'. The first CI run missed it because the
end-to-end test skipped silently when the runner refused the test printer, so
the script had never actually run.
The script now honours PDFCRAFT_PRINT_DRYRUN=1: render every sheet with
Windows.Data.Pdf to PNGs in the temporary folder and print nothing. The test
runs that half unconditionally, so CI exercises the whole WinRT path —
projection, await helpers, render — on any machine, while the paused-printer
half stays best-effort and prints why it skipped. Win32_Printer enumeration
asks only for Name and Default, so a machine with nine printers waits less.
* Tests: the find-options wait in the viewer test is a deadline too
4280f83 converted the frame-count waits in this test to deadlines after the
same 12-of-15 race under a full workspace test run, but left the first wait —
the one for the 'page' matches — on the old 60-frame loop, and it flaked the
same way on PR #847's CI. Same fix: wait up to 20 s for the 15 matches, then
assert.
* Print: list driverless CUPS destinations, not only permanent queues
The Print dialog's printer list came from `lpstat -p -d`, which lists only
permanent queues. A driverless IPP printer discovered on the network — the
standard setup on modern Linux desktops — has no permanent queue: only
`lpstat -e` (CUPS >= 1.7) names it, and CUPS builds a temporary queue when
`lp` sends it a job. Until now such printers were invisible and the dialog
showed only Save as PDF.
Enumerate `lpstat -e` alongside `lpstat -p -d` and merge the answers: queues
first, deduplicated, default still from `-d`; a spooler without `-e` keeps
today's behaviour and loses only the driverless names. The .deb/.rpm now
recommend cups-client so a machine without a print stack is not silently
printerless.
Fixes#652

* Print: fix the off-unix build and a driverless default's marker
`lpstat_e_command` is called only from `printers`' unix block, so off unix
it was dead code and CI's Windows clippy gate (`-D warnings`) failed to
build the crate. Gate it like its caller.
The default destination can itself be driverless — `lpoptions -d` names a
destination no queue exists for — and the merge appended it from
`lpstat -e` with `default: false`, so the dialog preselected the first
queue instead of the user's default. The `-d` default now marks the
appended entry too; the test covers it, and CRLF in `-e` output.
