After an undo or redo that changed one photo (its edit, rating, flag,
label, metadata or versions), that photo becomes the active one, as in
Lightroom Classic, so the change is on screen instead of happening to a
photo out of sight. It joins the selection if it isn't in it; steps that
touch several photos, albums or files, and photos outside the current
view, leave the selection alone.

#287 made app.export refuse unknown params. Stored settings (a user export
preset, prefs.json lastExport) written by another version are not the
caller's typo, and refusing them would break that preset or Export with
Previous for good after an update: their unknown keys (also inside
watermark) are dropped before the strict check. What the caller passes is
still checked strictly.

crop.drag {handle, from, to, start?} runs drag_crop through the command
layer so the UI, CLI, control channel and MCP agree; a locked crop keeps the
shape of its frame. crop.aspect now rejects non-finite, non-positive and
beyond-20:1 ratios and non-numeric arrays instead of storing a degenerate
lock that produced an empty crop.

`select_photos {"ids": [9999]}` answered `selected: 1` and left the session
with no usable active photo; `develop.get {"id": 9999}` answered too.
`library.select` now checks every id (and `active`) against the catalog
before touching the selection and returns `no such photo N`, so the
previous selection and active photo stay in place; `photo_arg` (develop.get,
photo.inspect, photo.allMetadata, history.list) does the same for an
explicit `id`. Engine and MCP tests cover every select mode.

Regions are stored on the upright (EXIF-oriented) photo, but the loupe's normalized frame and the
close-up crop include the user's orientation. The loupe overlay now maps each box into that frame
(and a resize drag back out of it), and face_job maps the face and swaps the photo's size for a
quarter turn. Flips need nothing: they are applied after the normalized frame. Adds
Orientation::inverse and Orientation::map_norm_rect.

A dedicated view mode (View > People, and a toolbar button) shows a card per
person named on faces: a close-up of their largest face, the name and how many
photos they are in. A click shows that person's photos in the grid. Only the
cards on screen render their face. The sidebar section is gone (it would get
crowded).
`Catalog::people()` now returns `Person { name, count, photo, face }`, the
photo and face being the person's largest. `Session::face_job` renders a
square close-up through the engine (the photo's own look, crop replaced, the
smallest source level that keeps it sharp, cached like variant thumbnails); it
clamps hostile rectangles, with a test for corners, oversized, degenerate and
non-finite faces.

AI masks from Meta's SAM 3, run in LightCraft itself: a new
`lightcraft-segment` crate ports the Hugging Face transformers
implementation (Apache-2.0) to candle, on the GPU through Metal on macOS
(CPU elsewhere), with no C/C++ and no `unsafe`.
- Object: click to include, ⌥-click to leave a part out (SAM 3's
interactive prompt encoder + two-way mask decoder).
- Describe: a text prompt selects every instance ("sky", "the red car";
"car, road" merges several) via the CLIP text encoder and DETR detector.
- Both as new masks and as Add / Subtract / Intersect components; + / −
buttons under the selected mask combine selections.
- The segmentation is stored with the mask (288² quantized logits, ~10-30
KB), so renders, exports and the web build never need the model.
- A zoomed-in detail pass (background, ~5 s on an M4 Pro) re-segments the
area around a selection from a sharper source: 5-10x finer edges on
small objects.
- Per-selection Edge slider (hard ↔ soft); hovering a mask in the list
shows it in red (the always-on overlay is now off by default, O toggles).
- The engine feature `sam` (on in the desktop app) gates the model; the
image is encoded once per photo in the background, clicks take ~35 ms.
- Weights are not bundled (SAM License): tools/install-sam3.sh / .ps1
download and verify facebook/sam3; docs/ai-masks.md.
- Clearer errors (missing file, missing model) and a stderr logger in the
app (LIGHTCRAFT_LOG=info).
candle is pinned at 0.9.2: later releases make candle-core depend on
tokenizers with the Oniguruma C library. Every stage is checked against
the Python reference (tests/reference.rs, tools/sam3_reference.py): on
Metal the backbone matches to 7e-5 relative error, masks to ~5e-5.

New engine command curve.reset {channel?: all|point|parametric|master|red|
green|blue} (default all = the whole Tone Curve), one undo step, usable from
CLI / MCP / control channel. In the editor: double-click a channel selector
resets that channel, a Reset button under the graph resets every curve
(point curves and parametric), and right-clicking the graph offers
Reset <channel> / Reset All Curves.

Soft proofing (S in the loupe; S in grids stays Expand/Collapse Stack):
- pipeline Proof {space, destWarning, displayWarning}: gamut-map into the
proof space, show it in the output space; red/blue gamut warnings
(neutral clipping excluded). CPU only; the GPU path declines proofs.
- RenderJob::with_proof; paper-white surround and Proof Preview label;
Soft Proofing strip under the histogram (profile, warnings, Create
Proof Copy = a named virtual copy). view.softProof for control/MCP.
- photo.virtualCopy takes an optional name.
Mask components: MaskComponent.name; mask.component {component, action:
invert|duplicate|delete|rename|op}; right-click / … menu per component,
double-click rename, Intersect button.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- develop.quickAdjust {control, delta}: adds a step to every target photo's own value (one undo
step); the Edit panel shows Quick Develop rows (exposure ⅓ / 1 stop, contrast, highlights,
shadows, whites, blacks, clarity, vibrance, temperature) in the grid with several selected.
- library.findSimilar {id?, similarity?}: look-alike photos by their culling signature (cached
per content), most similar first, as a view filter (Filter.only); photo menu entry.
- develop.matchExposure: selected photos' Exposure set so shutter × ISO ÷ aperture² + slider
matches the active photo; photos without exposure data are skipped.
- Impromptu slideshow row marked (View ▸ Slideshow).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Auto versions: leaving an edited photo keeps its settings as an Auto version (when they
differ from its latest version; 20 kept); saved with the library, not an undo step.
- View ▸ Slideshow (⌥⌘↩, `interval`): the photos in view full screen, wrapping; Space
pauses, ←/→ step, Esc ends.
- Photo ▸ Convert to DNG (photo.convertToDng): lossless DNG next to the raw with the settings
embedded; the photo and its virtual copies are relinked (Relink gains an optional format),
originals kept, undoable. Import: Copy as DNG (`dng`) for copy imports.
- A fine grid over the photo while a geometry slider is dragged.
- View ▸ Show Photo Counts; Help ▸ System Info… (app.systemInfo, JSON for agents).
- Native menus: modified Enter accelerators.
- Parity rows refreshed (target / quick collection, auto sync, location rules, bring to front).

The Color mask tile adds an empty colour range and arms the picker: click the photo to sample
(⇧-click adds, up to five); Pick in the Masking panel re-arms it. mask.sampleColor {x, y, add?}
samples via lightcraft_pipeline::color_range_sample, which reads the exposed scene colour at
that point in the same OkLab space the mask compares in (so a click selects what was clicked).

library.buildPreviews {size: standard (Settings → Performance preview size) | full, ids?,
wait?} renders each photo's grid thumbnail and loupe view into the memory + disk preview cache
(selected photos, else all in view) on a background thread; library.previewProgress /
cancelPreviews. File ▸ Previews: Build Standard-Sized / 1:1, Stop, Discard Preview Cache;
toasts when a build starts and finishes. Also silences the wasm-only unused `threads` warning.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- develop.autoSync (Edit ▸ Auto Sync, ⌥⇧⌘A): an edit of the active photo carries only the
settings that changed to the other selected photos, in one undo step; slider drags sync on
release; spots / red eye and history restores stay per photo. Edit ▸ Sync Settings in the
menu; Edit panel banner while it's on with several photos selected.
- Colour-label sets: built-in Colors / Review sets plus user sets in prefs (label.sets,
applySet, saveSet, deleteSet); listed in Photo ▸ Set Color Label; the names dialog can start
from a set and save one. XMP sidecars and exported originals write the label's name, and
reading resolves custom names back to their colour.
- Crop: ⌘-drag draws a straighten line and keeps the crop tool active.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- develop.autoBwMix (B&W Mixer → Auto): each hue band's colourful pixels are pushed away from
the image's mean lightness (light bands brighter, dark ones darker; bands with almost no
colour untouched), clamped to ±60; switches to B&W; one undo step.
- library.filter {merged: hdr | panorama | hdrPanorama | any}: Photo Merge results recognised
by the "-HDR" / "-Pano" / "-HDR-Pano" names merges write; filter bar type picker lists HDR,
Panoramas, HDR Panoramas.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- filter.savePreset / applyPreset / presets / deletePreset: the filter bar's settings saved
under a name with the library; filter bar → Presets (apply, save current, delete).
- Return (tool.done) closes Crop / Remove / Red Eye / Masking back to the Edit panel.
- Parity: zoom while cropping verified (works), hover previews now include versions.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- metadata.savePreset / applyPreset / presets / deletePreset: named sets of copyright,
creator, title, caption, place and keywords (text replaces, keywords add; one undo step),
saved with the library; Photo → Metadata Preset (apply, Save Metadata Preset… from the active
photo's copyright, creator and place); Settings → Import applies one to every import
(library.preferences import.metadataPreset).
- stack.split (this photo and those after it become their own stack; single leftovers are
unstacked), stack.moveUp / moveDown; in the Stack menus.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- develop.pastePrevious (⌥⌘V): the previously active photo's settings (copy groups) onto the
selection; the session tracks the previous active photo.
- photo.copyMetadata / photo.pasteMetadata {fields?}: title, caption, copyright, creator,
location, keywords.
- Photo Merge with last settings (⇧⌃H, ⇧⌃M, HDR panorama): no dialog, the options of the last
merge of that kind.
- Help → LightCraft Help (F1) opens the docs; F-keys map to native macOS accelerators.
- Parity: stale rows fixed (pet eye, merge submenu/keys, preset on import, profile favourites).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- The Diagonal crop overlay was offered but drew nothing. Guides are now polylines from one
testable module (panels/crop_overlay.rs): thirds, grid, golden ratio, 45° diagonals, harmonic
triangle, golden spiral; triangle and spiral mirror (view.cropOverlayOrientation).
- While cropping: O cycles the overlay, ⇧O its orientation, A locks the crop's current shape
or unlocks it (crop.aspect "current" / "toggle", no refit). Crop panel lists all overlays.

- library.selectBy {flag, rating, ratingOp, label, add}; Edit → Select by submenu.
- preset.rename / preset.update (current settings, same groups) / preset.move; preset row
menu: update, rename, move to group (existing or new), delete.
- version.rename / version.update; version button menu: restore, update, rename, set as
before, delete. history.clear (undoable); history row menu: create version from step, clear.
- Keyword chip menu: remove, show photos with keyword, rename / delete keyword.
- A generic one-field dialog (TextPrompt) runs a command with the typed value.

The before side used plain defaults, so raws lost their import defaults (sharpening, noise
reduction, import preset) in Before/After. It now shows the photo's import state, or a chosen
history step, version or the current settings (beforeAfter.setBefore); View → Before/After
Settings: Copy After's Settings to Before, Copy Before's Settings to After (undoable), Swap,
Reset; History rows: Copy History Step Settings to Before. Crop and orientation always follow
the current settings so both sides line up.

- mask.move {to | delta} reorders the list (no-op moves record nothing); mask.duplicate
{invert} = Duplicate and Invert, the copy placed right after the original.
- Masks list: show/hide eye per row (on hover, always while hidden; new eye-off icon drawn
in code), double-click to rename in place, right-click menu (duplicate, duplicate and
invert, invert, show/hide, move up/down, rename, delete).
- View → Cycle Mask Overlay Color (view.maskOverlayColor without params).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Edit → Paste Selected Settings… (⇧⌘V): group checklist prefilled with the copied groups;
develop.paste {groups} pastes only the chosen copied groups.
- Edit → Find… (⌘F, view.focusSearch) focuses the search field.
- Photo context menu: Remove from Album (in an album), Create Version, Paste Selected
Settings…, Show in Finder, Export…, Export with Preset.

- pipeline::upright: own gradient-based line-segment detector (level-line region growing seeded from the
strongest gradients, weighted principal-axis fit, elongation test); vanishing points by RANSAC over
segment pairs + least-squares refinement (smallest eigenvector of Σ w·l·lᵀ)
- corrections as a virtual camera rotation K·R·K⁻¹ (vertical VP → y axis; Full also horizontal VP → x axis
with focal length from VP orthogonality when plausible); Level = rotation; Auto = Full/Vertical when
moderate, else Level; all re-centred
- Guided: guides stored in normalized lens-corrected coordinates; 2+ vertical/horizontal guides define the
vanishing points, a single guide levels
- the analysis runs on the lens-corrected image at 1024 px and the result is stored in
geometry.upright_transform (identical preview/export); settings naming a mode without a transform
(XMP, CLI) are resolved at render time
- commands geometry.upright {mode} (Update = run again) and geometry.guides {guides, add}
- UI: Upright mode buttons, Update, Draw/Clear Guides in the crop panel; on-canvas guide drawing that
follows the warp
- tests: segment detector on known lines; Vertical/Auto/Full fix converging verticals; Level fixes a tilted
horizon; Full fixes both families; guided from two guides; analysis resolution independence; lazy vs
stored transform; engine commands
