From fb715d9015503d22b1da8ac511857e6fd485d35f Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Vikram Bhaskaran Date: Wed, 14 Oct 2026 00:32:56 +1100 Subject: [PATCH 01/38] Render: drop the blanket layer cover from effect stacks; effects pay only what they need (#1205) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Since #659 every text or shape layer with an enabled video effect grew its effect buffer to the comp-sized layer rectangle before the stack ran, so glow and blur — which only need their own margins — allocated a 1920x1080 RGBA32F texture per layer per frame in flight (~5 GB peak VRAM in parallel export, measured on an RTX 3090). Effects that actually place pixels outside the painted content already grow the buffer themselves by exactly what they need (CC Tiler, CC Smear, CC Mosaic sharp via layer_cover_pad / Buf::pad), on CPU and GPU. The blanket target.cover(layer_size) in Renderer::run_effects_on, the FxTarget::cover trait method with its CPU default, and the GPU GpuTarget::cover texture allocation are removed; Buf::cover/cover_plan stay as the effects-crate helpers they were designed as. The #659 regression tests (tiling across the layer region, centred-shape edge pinning) and the render/effects/gpu suites pass unchanged. --- crates/gpu/src/effects.rs | 15 --------------- crates/render/src/lib.rs | 24 +++++------------------- 2 files changed, 5 insertions(+), 34 deletions(-) diff --git a/crates/gpu/src/effects.rs b/crates/gpu/src/effects.rs index 42d2bab71..426931d78 100644 --- a/crates/gpu/src/effects.rs +++ b/crates/gpu/src/effects.rs @@ -145,21 +145,6 @@ impl effectcraft_render::FxTarget for GpuFx<'_, '_> { let out = f(Buf { img, offset: b.offset, scale: b.scale }); self.b = self.e.g.upload_image(&out.img).map(|img| GBuf { img, offset: out.offset, scale: out.scale }); } - - /// GBuf::cover, like `pad`: a bigger texture with the old one copied into place, no - /// readback. That covers thisComp.layer(...) in a loop, .parent, a Layer Control's value and thisLayer. The checks for a layer (the result, thisComp.layer(layer, offset), the property proxy) read __isLayer only on functions. Numbers and other primitives are no longer boxed to look the property up. Timing (release, Windows, medians of 2000 evaluations, PR vs main): - one evaluation building one layer: about 22 vs 16 us; - thisLayer.transform.opacity: about 200 vs 170 us; - 20000 thisComp.layer(1) lookups in one evaluation: 95 vs 138 ms. --- crates/expr/src/prelude.js | 27 ++++++++++++++++++--------- 1 file changed, 18 insertions(+), 9 deletions(-) diff --git a/crates/expr/src/prelude.js b/crates/expr/src/prelude.js index 7fd746bf1..4517fef1d 100644 --- a/crates/expr/src/prelude.js +++ b/crates/expr/src/prelude.js @@ -26,7 +26,7 @@ function __begin(t, v, c, l, path, uid, idx, fd, ti, tt, sv) { textIndex = ti; textTotal = tt; selectorValue = sv; - __S = { c: c, l: l, path: path, uid: uid, idx: idx, fd: fd, comp: null, layer: null, prop: null, vars: {} }; + __S = { c: c, l: l, path: path, uid: uid, idx: idx, fd: fd, comp: null, layer: null, prop: null, vars: {}, layers: {} }; __rc = 0; __seed = 0; __timeless = false; @@ -44,7 +44,7 @@ function __finish(r) { function __result(r) { r = __v(r); - if (r !== null && r !== undefined && r.__isLayer) return r.index; + if (typeof r === 'function' && r.__isLayer) return r.index; if (r !== null && typeof r === 'object' && r.__isTextStyle) return r.__out(); // `[temp, temp]` where temp is a property (pick-whip 1D → 2D): read the values here, while // host requests can still be answered and the script re-run. @@ -464,10 +464,10 @@ Comp.prototype = { return __err('Composition "' + this.name + '" has no active camera'); }, layer: function (a, rel) { - if (a !== null && a !== undefined && a.__isLayer) return this.layer(a.index + (rel || 0)); + if (typeof a === 'function' && a.__isLayer) return this.layer(a.index + (rel || 0)); var id = __h(__LAYER, this.__c, a); if (id === null) __err(typeof a === 'string' ? Muted keys stay in the Timeline and Graph Editor (dimmed, selectable and movable) but evaluation skips them, so the active neighbours interpolate as if they were not there; auto-Bezier and eases use the active neighbours. When every key is muted the property falls back to its static value.\n\nkeys.setMuted {muted} mutes or unmutes the selected keys in one undo step. The Timeline context menu offers Mute/Unmute Keyframes and the Animation menu has Mute Keyframes. Muted keys have no Bezier handles and motion-path points are dimmed.\n\nLottie export omits muted keys (with a warning) because Lottie has no mute state; scripting keeps seeing them in numKeys/key().\n\nTests: keyframe evaluation (linear, auto-Bezier spatial, all muted), serialization and value replacement, engine command + undo, Lottie export. --- crates/engine/src/cmd/prop.rs | 10 +++ crates/engine/src/menus.rs | 1 + crates/engine/src/tests/menu_cmds.rs | 26 +++++++ crates/interchange/src/export.rs | 26 ++++--- crates/interchange/src/tests.rs | 53 +++++++++++++++ crates/keyframe/src/lib.rs | 71 ++++++++++++++------ crates/keyframe/src/tests.rs | 57 ++++++++++++++++ crates/lottie/src/anim.rs | 25 +++++-- crates/lottie/src/tests.rs | 18 +++++ crates/ui-egui/src/i18n.rs | 10 +++ crates/ui-egui/src/panels/graph.rs | 20 ++++-- crates/ui-egui/src/panels/timeline.rs | 3 + crates/ui-egui/src/panels/viewer_overlays.rs | 45 +++++++------ 13 files changed, 303 insertions(+), 62 deletions(-) diff --git a/crates/engine/src/cmd/prop.rs b/crates/engine/src/cmd/prop.rs index ab2f0a1e2..663429fb2 100644 --- a/crates/engine/src/cmd/prop.rs +++ b/crates/engine/src/cmd/prop.rs @@ -1189,6 +1189,15 @@ fn toggle_hold(s: &mut Session, _: &Value) -> Result { }) } +fn set_muted(s: &mut Session, p: &Value) -> Result { + let muted = b_p(p, "muted").unwrap_or(true); 35/38] Import: an MP4 lasts as long as its video edit list shows (#2592) The reader reports a track's media duration (mdhd). For H.264 with B-frames that runs past the last shown frame by the encoder delay the edit list trims, so a 75-frame 25 fps clip imported as 76 frames / 3.04 s. The footage's duration now follows the video track's edit list when it is shorter (never longer; a delayed start keeps the reader's duration), as the frame rate is already corrected from the header.
