Conflicts:
- crates/engine/src/cmd/{datamerge/fill.rs, file.rs, mathexpr.rs,
media.rs, table.rs}: the branch's add_asset calls, with next's Asset
fields (pdf_crop, pdf_box) through ..Default::default(); file.place
keeps next's PdfCrop-aware asset (crop_pdf) and adds it with add_asset;
the data merge graphic keeps next's wrap field.
- crates/format/src/lib.rs: load runs next's upgrade(doc, version), then
merge_duplicate_assets (zip and legacy JSON); tests from both, with the
round-trip test placing its asset (saves drop unused ones).
- crates/idml/src/import.rs graphic(): the branch's linked_assets reuse and
insert_asset, with next's PDF page and PdfCrop on the asset and the
graphic's text wrap (#389 integration) in the shared graphic closure.
linked_assets is keyed by (path, page, crop), so placements of one PDF
showing different pages or crop boxes keep separate assets.
Also, so the merge compiles: Asset/Graphic literals in the branch's tests
(crates/doc/src/assets.rs, format, engine links.rs) take next's pdf_crop,
pdf_box and wrap fields.
Placing a file that the document already holds reuses its asset (same
bytes, type and PDF page), in file.place, place.load, media and poster
placement, graphic table cells, math, data merge image fields, IDML
import (a linked file is read once) and paste/duplicate between
documents (which also maps ids that collide in the target).
Saving merges identical assets into the first and leaves out assets
nothing references; the open document keeps them for undo. Opening a
file saved with one copy per placement shares the identical bytes as
they are read and merges the assets. Package and Copy Links write only
used files, and links.list lists only used assets.
Refs #391
Direct Selection selects and drags a frame's content, the Selection tool
drags it by the content grabber, and double-clicking a frame with content
toggles between frame and content, alongside #84's text threading and
canvas click counting.
Conflicts:
- crates/tools/src/select.rs: module doc keeps both paragraphs (ports,
content). The frame/content toggle runs on the second press of a double
click (Down with clicks 2, or a DoubleClick from the control channel),
Selection tool only, after threading ports and the text-frame
double-click, so those keep priority; the DoubleClick arm stays empty.
Overlays keep the Drag::Place marquee and add the content ghost.
- crates/tools/src/tests.rs: both sets of tests and fixtures kept; the
graphic fixture sets Graphic::wrap; the double-click toggle test drives
the click-count sequence and the DoubleClick form.
- crates/engine/src/tests.rs: both sets of tests kept.
- crates/engine/src/cmd/object.rs: both test modules kept.
Direct Selection selects and drags a frame's content; the Selection tool
drags it by the content grabber (hand cursor, shown on hover too) and
double-clicking a frame toggles between frame and content. Arrow keys
nudge a content selection. transform.move takes content?: bool (default:
the selection's content flag) and moves the placed graphic or pasted-in
items in the frame's inner space; nested items move in their container's
space. A content drag shows the whole graphic faintly with its bounds.
Combines contour-wrap (wrap side, contour type, multi-segment lines) with
the placed-graphic and nested wraps already on next.
- crates/compose/src/lib.rs: exclusion() and the new graphic_exclusion()
share wrap_exclusion() (offsets, spine sides resolved per page, contour).
wrap_obstacles() builds every obstacle through them: the item's own wrap,
the graphic's wrap around its shown bounds, and children of groups and
pasted-into frames with their own transform (depth <= 64). Contour type
Bounding Box follows the shown part of the graphic, other types the frame
path. wrap_slot() returns all free segments (free_slots) and steps 1 pt
at a time beside a contour; Jump Object stays in wrap_slot only. The line
loop keeps grid gyoudori, Jump Object leading steps and grid snapping for
a line's first segment, and carries the other segments (with the line's
grid end) to the next lines; estimate_slots() lists every segment through
wrap_slot(). hit_line() breaks ties between segments by x, used by hit()
next to the drop-cap lookup.
- crates/compose/src/tests.rs: both sides' tests; the hostile-geometry
test builds Exclusion with side and contour.
- crates/engine/src/cmd/object.rs: object.textWrap is text_wrap() with
mode/side/contour (unknown values are errors) and content?, applied to
the frame's or the graphic's wrap.
- crates/idml/src/import.rs, export.rs: ContourOption/@ContourType is read
in the shared text_wrap() and written by text_wrap_pref() as a child of
TextWrapPreference after Properties, so graphic wraps carry it too.
- crates/idml/src/tests.rs: both sides' tests. tests/wrap.rs gains a test
of a contour, right-side wrap on a placed graphic shown in part.
- crates/ui-egui/src/panels/mod.rs: the Text Wrap panel's side and contour
combos read the targeted wrap (tw), the graphic's when content is selected.
Lines beside an object that lets text through on both sides are set in
segments, left then right, and the paragraph runs on from one to the
next. One-sided wraps (left, right, spine sides, largest area) block the
other side. A contour wrap follows the object's outline band by band,
with the offset around it; graphic frames follow their contour type
(bounding box of the graphic, frame path, same as clipping; detected
edges, alpha channel and image paths follow the frame path). The Text
Wrap panel sets the wrap side and contour type through object.textWrap,
and IDML import and export keep ContourOption.
Conflicts: compose lib.rs imports (both; Composer unused), idml tests.rs (both test modules), ui-egui
panels/mod.rs (next's ruler origin with the branch's graphic wrap for Direct Selection).
A placed graphic carries its own text wrap (Graphic.wrap). IDML import
reads TextWrapPreference on the Image/PDF element and export writes it
back there. Layout treats it as an obstacle around the part of the
graphic its frame shows, plus the offsets, and also collects wraps of
items inside groups. object.textWrap acts on the graphic when the
selection is the frame's content, and the Text Wrap panel shows its wrap.
- object.setLayer moves a group member's top-level group (and its members)
and rejects an unknown or missing layer; object.reorder sets the layer on
moved groups' members too.
- object.reorder returns without editing when the order and layers would
not change, so no undo step is recorded.
- Layers panel: locked and hidden layers take object and selection drops
only with Cmd/Ctrl held; the selection square drops the selected
members' top-level groups.
Conflicts: fonts fontdb.rs (the branch's em box with its from-BASE flag beside next's ICF cache); idml
tests.rs (the branch's copies of tests already on next, and the mojikumi test #129 replaced, dropped;
the Em Box Height test kept). German entry for Em Box Height.
The first baseline sits the em box top below the frame's top inset: the
font's BASE em box (idtp, else ideo + 1 em), else 0.88 em, for the
largest size on the first line. IDML FirstBaselineOffset="EmboxHeight"
imports and exports as itself; the footnote options list it and the
frame and footnote option commands take emboxHeight.
- object.reorder {ids, above|below: id | index, layer?}: restacks sibling
objects in front of or behind a target, or at an index counted from the
top of a layer, moving them to that layer. Group members stay in their
group. Bad input is an error and leaves the document unchanged.
- layer.move rejects a missing id or an out-of-range index.
- Layers panel: drag a layer row to reorder layers, an object row to
restack it or move it to another layer, and a filled selection square
onto a layer to move the selection there; a line or box shows the drop.
Groups expand to list their members. Layers list top (frontmost) first,
matching the stacking order.
The placed PDF's asset stores its Crop to choice (crop, art, trim, bleed,
media, or the content bounds with visible or all layers) and where that
box sits on the page. The graphic spans the box: the screen, PDF export,
rasterised exports and clipping-path tracing draw only that part of the
page, so a larger frame doesn't reveal the bleed.
IDML export writes the choice as PDFCrop, with GraphicBounds spanning the
box. Import reads PDFCrop back; the engine finds the box on the PDF page
after import (and after relink or update) and maps it onto GraphicBounds,
or gives a graphic without bounds the box's size. Documents saved without
a choice load with the crop box. The Place PDF dialog offers the content
bounds too, and links.list reports the choice.
Preferences > Units & Increments > Origin sets DocSettings.rulerOrigin
(document.preferences {rulerOrigin: spread|page|spine}, IDML
RulerOrigin). Rulers and the X/Y fields (Control, Properties, Info,
transform.set) measure from that origin plus the zero point; with a page
origin the horizontal ruler restarts on each page and an object measures
from the page it is on.
Cmd-drag (Ctrl) from the ruler corner adds a horizontal and a vertical
spread guide through the drop point. The live preview while dragging the
zero point is kept on the pasteboard like the committed value.
Translations for Origin, Spine and Lock/Unlock Zero Point.
The zero point is document state (DocSettings.zeroPoint, zeroPointLocked):
an offset from the top-left corner of each spread's pages, so every
spread measures from the same relative place and split views share it.
view.zeroPoint {at, reset} and view.lockZeroPoint {on} set it; moving it
is not an undo step and undo/redo keep it. Values are kept on the
pasteboard, from commands, files and IDML.
Rulers and the X/Y fields (Control, Properties, Info, transform.set)
measure from it. IDML reads and writes Document ZeroPoint.
Dragging from the ruler corner places it where released, with crosshair
lines while dragging; a click that stays in the corner does nothing; a
double-click resets it; the corner's context menu locks it.
* Text frames: column rules draw between columns on screen and in PDF
A frame with Column Rule on gets a bar centred in each gutter, inside the
insets, broken around paragraphs that span columns; right-to-left and
vertical frames included. object.textFrameOptions takes columnRuleWeight
and columnRuleColor (unknown swatches are an error) and an inset array
whose null sides stay; document.inspect reports the rule.
* Text Frame Options: Column Rules fields; OK changes only edited fields
The dialog shows the selected frame's options, with an inset field per
side, and sends only what the user changed, so unequal insets survive.
The rule weight is read in points.
* Column rules: tint, horizontal offset and top/bottom insets; IDML import and export
Text Frame Options gains Tint %, Top Inset, Bottom Inset and Horizontal
Offset for the rule, and object.textFrameOptions and document.inspect
take and report them. IDML reads the ColumnRule attributes of
TextFramePreference on frames and object styles and writes them when a
rule is set.

`object.opacity` documents `blend?: normal|multiply|…`, but parsed the
value with `serde_json::from_value`, which only accepts the enum's
PascalCase variant names. Every documented lowercase form was silently
dropped: the command returned `{"changed": 1}` while the stored blend
stayed as it was, so a client following the parameter description could
save and export the previous appearance without any error (#260).
Parse with the codebase's own `BlendMode::parse`, which is already
case-, space-, underscore- and hyphen-insensitive and covered by tests,
so `multiply`, `MULTIPLY`, `Color Burn`, `soft_light` and the serialized
`Multiply` all resolve to the same mode. An unrecognized value is now an
error rather than a silent no-op, matching how sibling commands treat a
bad parameter — restoring `normal` after `Multiply` really does go back
to Normal.
Three tests in `blend_mode_tests`: the documented forms apply, the
PascalCase names the Properties panel submits still apply, and an
unknown value is rejected without changing the item.
Fixes#260🤖 Generated with Codebuff
Co-authored-by: Codebuff <noreply@codebuff.com>
Three commands took a count from their parameters and used it unchecked.
Parameters come from MCP, the control channel and scripts, so the count
is hostile input (never-crash: cap input-sized allocations, checked
arithmetic).
- layout.createGuides made one or two guides per row and column with no
upper limit: 30 million rows took 1.2 GB, and 2^32 - 1 would exhaust
memory, which aborts the process past the command guard. A count over
2^32 wrapped to a small one. Both counts are now capped at 100.
- edit.stepAndRepeat multiplied rows by columns as usize. In debug builds
the overflow panicked; in release builds 2^32 x 2^32 wraps to 0, passes
the 1000-copy limit and starts a grid of 2^64 copies. The product is
now checked, and a grid that large falls back to `count` copies like
any other grid over 1000.
- file.new stored any column count in the page (4 billion, or a wrapped
value past 2^32). Page::column_rects builds one rect per column each
time the columns are laid out. The count is now clamped to 1..=216,
the range layout.marginsAndColumns already uses.
Each case has a regression test that failed before the fix.

* PDF: PDF/A exports keep placed PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP images by writing them without interpolation (#71)
* Tables: new tables take their paragraph's direction, and the Table panel sets a table's direction (#100)
* Text: stories made in a right-to-left-bound document fill their columns from the right (#100)
Vertical is a story property: every frame of a thread is vertical or
horizontal together, a frame threaded onto a story takes its direction,
and frames split off by threading or breaking a thread keep theirs.
Type > Story Direction is type.storyDirection {vertical} (checked in the
menu) for the stories of the text selection or selected frames;
object.textFrameOptions {vertical} and frame.create {vertical} set the
frames' stories. Documents that stored Vertical on the frame open with
each story taking its first frame's direction. IDML StoryOrientation is
read into and written from the story, beside its column direction
(StoryDirection), which stays a separate setting.
named_targets reads ids/id as targets() does, so {ids: [], id} can't
pass the gate and then run on nothing.

A command that documents ids (object.textFrameOptions, transform.rotate, ...)
acts on the objects a call names, yet its enabled check looked only at the
selection. With a text caret or nothing selected, {"ids": [5]} failed with:
command `object.textFrameOptions` is not available right now: nothing selected
Execute now lets such a call through when every named object exists, and
says "no object with id N" when one doesn't. transform.set, object.arrange
and edit.stepAndRepeat, which already acted on ids, now document them.

frame.create's text and text.insert kept CR and CR LF as characters, so text
written with InDesign's, classic Mac or Windows line ends ("One\rTwo") became
a single paragraph, and paragraph formatting (spaceAfter) never applied
between the parts. They now become \n, the paragraph separator, as edit.paste
and text import already did.

Commands return errors instead of expect()/unreachable!() (book, library,
undo/redo, paste, find/replace, Pathfinder, tables, QR, select, swatches,
anchors, articles, transform again, XML import). The sample document builder
propagates errors. Commands that add a key to their parameters no longer
panic when a caller (control channel, MCP, script) passes an array or a
string, and corrupt crash-recovery metadata is ignored. engine, mcp and
tools now deny unwrap/expect/panic/unimplemented/todo/unreachable.

prefs.set (application) and document.preferences (units, increments, grids; undoable).
Scaling applies to content: paths and placed graphics take the scale, stroke weights follow
with Include Stroke Weight. X/Y/W/H and transform.set measure the stroke's outer edge.
The command palette becomes Quick Apply and lists styles.

- Edit › Paste Into (⌥⌘V): copied objects (with their stories and images) become the selected
frame's content, clipped by it; Item::is_group / has_nested_items; renderer and PDF draw fill,
clipped content, stroke; IDML nests the items inside the frame both ways (verified in
InDesign 2026) (+ tests)
- Polygon Settings: sides and star inset as engine preferences used by the polygon tools and
frame.create; double-click the Polygon tool (+ test)
