path.appendAnchor read `subpath` with as_u64, so -1 or "0" counted as omitted
and the point went onto the last subpath. Only an omitted (or null) subpath
means the last one now; any other value must be a valid index.

- selection.toggle dropping an item from the selection now drops its selected
points too. They stayed in selection.anchors, so the arrow keys still moved
points of a frame that was no longer selected.
- path.appendAnchor at the start moves the sub-path's selected points up one
place, as path.reverse remaps them, so they keep naming the same anchors.

Both change the Direct Selection tool: #902's corner pull now builds the
anchor drag with this branch's list of other selected anchors (none), so the
two build together; both sets of tests are kept.

* Guides: a dragged guide shows where it is (#1282)
While a guide is dragged out of a ruler or moved, a label beside the
pointer reads X: or Y: and the guide's place, in the ruler units and
measured the way the rulers measure (from the zero point, and from the
page origin when rulers restart per page).
* Guides: keep the drag readout inside the canvas
Near the canvas's right or bottom edge the readout flips to the other
side of the pointer, and it is kept inside the canvas in every case
(readout_at).
* Guides: the drag readout measures the spread under the pointer
The readout measured from the spread in the middle of the view (where the
rulers measure), but a guide is dropped on the spread under the pointer,
so with spreads above one another the number shown could differ from the
guide's place. It now measures that spread (ruler_pieces_of).
* Guides: no readout for an existing guide over another spread
An existing guide moves only on its own spread (guide_drag), so dropped
over another it stays where it was: the readout no longer shows a place
there it won't go.
* #1282: guide selection commands (guide.select, guide.selectAll, guide.deselect, guide.moveBy)
* #1282: select ruler guides on the canvas, X/Y in the Control bar and Properties
* #1282: guides take clicks over objects, a new guide is selected, group drag preview
* ROADMAP: the progress line lands in one commit after the guide PRs

Holding Cmd/Ctrl with a non-selection tool borrows whichever of Selection and Direct Selection was chosen last, instead of a fixed tool per tool family. The session records the last chosen selection tool; the busy() guard stays.
tooling.rs: kept #366's IME handling (with_ctx passes the session; a press ends the composition first) and #1002's borrowed tool, which pointer, key, overlay, cursor and wants_text reach through gesture_tool().
main rolls a half-run script back (#709); next's #406 test expected the
successful prefix to stay as an undo step. Both keep a partial edit from being
stranded; the script keeps main's rollback, and the test checks that. The
generic partial-failure undo step stays covered by the fillWithPlaceholder test.
In InDesign, holding Cmd (Ctrl) with the Type or a drawing tool makes a
press select, move or resize as the Selection tool would, without
switching tools; the Pen family gets Direct Selection. The engine now
borrows that tool from a Cmd-held press to the release, keeps the chosen
tool, and shows the borrowed tool's cursor while Cmd is held.

InDesign sets a text line when its baseline fits in the frame; the
descenders may hang below the frame's bottom. DesignCraft required the
baseline plus the descent to fit, so a frame sized to a heading's caps
oversets: Zero2Graphic's magazine tutorial draws 2.7682 cm frames for
103 pt headings (control bar, 4:12–5:44), and all three were overset.
The keep-lines IDML fixture's frames are now 236 pt tall, so they hold the
same 19 lines under either rule.

delete_para and delete_char previously reassigned only the story text
runs/paragraphs using the deleted style, leaving other styles' Based
On, paragraph styles' nested/nested-line/GREP style refs, the drop cap
style, and the footnote reference style pointed at a name that no
longer exists.
Extract redirect_style_refs() from rename_style() (everything it does
except updating the registry entry's own name) and reuse it from both
delete commands, so deleting a style now redirects every reference
type to the replacement style before removing the registry entry.
Also teach rename_char_refs() about drop_cap_style, which it missed
even for renames.
Add validation: name must be non-empty and refer to an existing
style, and replaceWith (if given) must refer to an existing style and
can't be the style being deleted.

Adobe's "Set up a modern magazine layout" (Brian Wood, 2:12–4:23) locks a
page frame drawn round the spread (Cmd+L), then draws the text frames on
top of it with the Type tool. In DesignCraft the press landed in the
locked frame, which the Type tool turned into a text frame, putting the
caret in it; no new frame was drawn.
- The Type tool takes a hit only on text frames (locked or not, as
InDesign lets you edit their text) and unlocked empty frames; over a
locked empty frame, the press starts a new text frame.
- text.placeCaret refuses to convert a locked empty frame (or one on a
locked layer).

Chris Nielsen's "The Adobe InDesign Toolbox" (10:10): with the White
Arrow he clicks outside, then presses on a frame's corner and pulls it up,
turning the rectangle into a lopsided triangle. DesignCraft only looked for
anchors on objects already selected, so the press fell through to moving
the whole frame.
The Direct Selection tool now also looks at the anchors of the object
under the pointer: on one, it selects the object and drags that point, in
one undo step. Elsewhere on the object it still drags it whole; Shift-
click still toggles the selection.

Add multi-click text selection, pending caret formatting and clipboard support, text-aware colour controls, guide/grid snapping, and frame threading with loaded-port interactions.
Include the layout, drop-cap and IDML updates carried from #83, with safeguards for generated and linked stories, external text references, local IDs, locked frames and atomic colour edits.
Fixes#23.

Chris Cicchino's "Adobe InDesign – Page Tool and Liquid Layout" (0:42,
2:06) holds Option and drags a page in the Pages panel to copy it,
drags a page onto the New Page button to duplicate it ("click and drag
onto my plus sign I can duplicate that"), and resizes pages; InDesign's
panel also has an Edit page size button. DesignCraft's panel only moved
pages on drag, had no Edit page size button, and duplicating a page gave
the copy the size of the page before it (not its own) without its
liquid rule or guides. A page of its own size also drew its thumbnail
at the document's scale, over the panel's footer.
- Pages panel: Alt-drag copies the page to where it's dropped; a page
dropped on Create new page is duplicated at the end of the document;
Edit page size lists the presets (in the page's orientation) and
Custom Page Size…; InDesign's tooltips (Create new page, Delete
selected pages).
- Thumbnails share one scale (the document's page size, smaller when a
taller page would pass 1.8 times the usual height); rows fit their
spread's tallest page.
- engine: layout.pages.duplicateSpread copies the pages' size, margins,
columns, guides and liquid rule, takes `atEnd`, and returns the copy's
first page.

Chris Cicchino's "Adobe InDesign – Page Tool and Liquid Layout" (6:32–
9:58) clicks an object with the Page tool on an object-based page and
gets InDesign's on-canvas liquid controls: a pin outside each edge
("Object is pinned relative to the page edge. Click to release.") and a
padlock on the width and height lines ("The object's width is locked.
Click to let the object change width as the page changes width."). The
pins and resize settings existed (liquid.object, the Liquid Layout
panel) but the canvas showed none of it.
- tools: on an object-based page a Page tool click selects the object
with its page (layout.selectPage takes `ids`); its pins (14 px outside
each edge's middle) and width/height locks (beside the centre) toggle
liquid.object on click, show InDesign's tooltips on hover and a hand
cursor.
- canvas: LiquidPins (orange dashed width/height lines with padlocks,
open when the object follows the page; hollow pins, or a line to the
page edge when pinned) and Tip overlays; tooltip translations.
Builds on the Page tool PR (#862).

Chris Cicchino's "Adobe InDesign – Page Tool and Liquid Layout" (1:02–
2:06, 13:47) sizes pages from the Control panel with the Page tool
selected: X/Y, W/H, the page-size preset ("US Business Card"),
orientation, Liquid Page Rule ("Controlled by Parent"), Objects Move with
Page and Show Parent Page Overlay. DesignCraft's Control panel showed the
(empty) object controls.
- ui: with the Page tool, the Control panel shows the selected page (or
the page in view): the reference point (W/H, preset and orientation
keep it in place via layout.pageSize's anchor), X/Y (read-only),
W/H, the preset dropdown, portrait/landscape, Liquid Page Rule, Objects
Move with Page (always on: pages don't move within spreads yet) and
Show Parent Page Overlay.
- doc: LiquidRule::ControlledByParent (the parent page's rule, Off
without one; resolved by liquid::effective_rule); Page.show_parent_overlay.
- engine: layout.pageOptions {pages, showParentOverlay}; liquid.pageRule
takes controlledByParent.
- canvas: the parent page's size over a page with the overlay on.
- Liquid Layout panel and Control panel share InDesign's rule list
(Off, Scale, Re-center, Object-based, Guide-based, Controlled by
Parent); "US Business Card" preset; translations.
Builds on the Page tool PR (#862) for the selected page.

Chris Cicchino's "Adobe InDesign – Page Tool and Liquid Layout" (0:42–
2:06) selects a page with the Page tool, gets its bounding box with
handles, drags a handle (the page springs back: a liquid-rule preview),
holds Option to really resize it, Shift for proportions, and reads the
size in a tooltip by the cursor. DesignCraft's Page tool only opened a
generic Page Size dialog on click.
- tools: the Page tool selects the page under a click (none on the
pasteboard); the selected page shows its outline, eight handles and
its liquid page rule ("Scale", "Object-Based"…) above it. Dragging a
handle previews layout.pageSize (the liquid rule re-flows the
objects) and springs back on release; Alt resizes, Shift keeps the
proportions; a W/H readout follows the pointer; resize cursors on the
handles. Double-click a page for the Page Size dialog.
- doc: Selection.page (the Page tool's page); engine: layout.selectPage
(no undo step).
- layout.pageSize `anchor` (0-8): the page grows away from the
reference point and its objects and guides keep their place relative
to it (a handle drag anchors the opposite edge); liquid rules work
from that.
- canvas: PageHandles and Tag overlays; translations for the tags and
the Resize Page undo label.

to_bytes returns a Result and every caller propagates it, so a document
that can't be written is an error: the existing file, the unsaved state
and the recovery checkpoint stay. Asset entries near or over 4 GiB are
written with zip64 sizes. On the web, Save marks the document saved only
after the browser download has started.
With the Type tool, Option/Alt+Left/Right with a caret changes the manual kerning of the pair at the caret by the Kerning/Tracking increment (a new document preference, 20/1000 em by default, in Preferences > Units & Increments); with a selection it changes the tracking of the selected text. Cmd (Ctrl on Windows and Linux) multiplies the step by five. A pair without manual kerning starts from 0. The new type.kernStep command does the work, one undo step per press.
Moving by words is Cmd+Left/Right on macOS and Ctrl+Left/Right on Windows and Linux; Option/Alt+Shift+Left/Right still extends the selection by words. Fixes#621.
