The same selection written two ways gave different files:
file.exportPdf {"pages": "2,2"} → 1 page
file.exportPdf {"pages": [2, 2]} → 2 pages, the second a copy
file.exportPdf {"pages": [2,2,2]} → 3 pages
`parse_page_range` keeps the first of a repeat (`"2-2,2"` is one page too); the
array form appended whatever it was given. A list says which pages to export,
not how many times, so the array now drops a repeat as the string does. Both
`file.exportPdf` and `file.exportPptx` read the same parameter.
The test pins the agreement between the two forms over nine lists, in PDF and
PPTX, and the two facts I measured while checking it: the pages come out in the
document's order whichever order the list names them in, and `[2, 2]` is now
byte for byte the file `"2"` gives. A page that does not exist is still
refused, and an empty list still exports nothing.
Not from a ticket: I found it probing the page-range parameter.
Resolve 12 conflicted files. Where both sides changed the same code:
- format: keep main's bounded-read load_zip (MAX_ENTRIES, read_entry) and
this branch's u64 version reporting, so a version above u32::MAX is named
as written rather than clamped. Both sides had fixed the same truncation.
- render: main's natural_size supersedes image_natural_size (it already
reads an EPS bounding box and also handles PDF pages); callers in table
and data merge now use it.
- images: keep the DSC-aware header scan and (atend) trailer lookup, take
main's classic-Mac line endings, and carry its overflow guard into
parse_box. eps_proxy draws main's simple rectangles before falling back
to the placeholder, still over a retained EPS source.
- engine/file: take main's placement shape (add_asset, crop box geometry,
place cursor, finite_rect, object effects) and keep this branch's
validate_placement in both branches; edit() works on a clone and commits
only on Ok, so validating inside it stays all-or-nothing.
- engine/links: keep building the replacement before edit() so a file that
cannot be read leaves the document untouched, and move main's crop_pdf
refresh into relinked_asset, which both relink and update go through.
- engine/export: EPS preview warnings join the font-embedding warnings
rather than shadowing them.
- idml: an EPS element keeps ActualPpi (its pixels are a preview raster);
main's PDF exclusion is unchanged.
Cargo.lock regenerated. Tests and doc strings from both sides kept.
Graphic literals (cli perf, doc assets/item, engine datamerge/export/file/links/mathexpr/media/table/sample, epub, format, pdf, pptx, render, tools, ui-egui properties, and tests): name the branch's clip and wrap (#561, #381) and the PR's fill.
crates/doc/src/item.rs: Graphic keeps wrap and gains fill.
crates/idml/src/import.rs: read the image swatch, then the branch's styled FrameFittingOption lookup; the graphic keeps its wrap.
crates/idml/src/tests/assets.rs: keep both new tests.
crates/render/src/lib.rs: keep #362's crop-box sizing of placed PDFs and colour the resulting pixmap.
crates/render/tests/colorize.rs, crates/epub/tests/grouped_reading_order.rs, crates/compose/src/tests.rs: literals name the branch's Asset and Graphic fields.
crates/pdf/src/export.rs: the soft mask interpolates by the standard's raster mode (the branch has no per-exporter interpolate switch).
docs/gaps.md, docs/target-app-parity.md: status lines list both sides' changes; gap text keeps the clipping-path items and adds the image swatch.
Reject page selections that cannot fit the target index type before conversion, and return an error for the largest direct PPTX page index.
Validated the combined main and PR tree with all seven cargo xtask ci stages (1,967 passing tests), four actual WASM export-page regressions, and successful FreeBSD, Windows ARM64, and packaging workflows.
Conflicts and how each was resolved:
- crates/idml/src/import.rs: main's linked_assets and insert_asset kept; the
crop is read beside main's page (PDFAttribute as a child or a property), and
linked_assets is keyed by (path, page, PdfCrop) so two crops of one page are
two assets.
- crates/idml/src/export.rs: PDFAttribute with PageNumber, PDFCrop and
TransparentBackground is written for every placed PDF, replacing main's
page > 0 block.
- crates/idml/src/tests.rs: main's file plus the `$ID/` font tests.
- crates/engine/src/cmd/file.rs: main's exact PDF page size, place cursor and
add_asset kept; Crop to stores the choice on the asset (the graphic spans
the box), so the place cursor's frame crop box is gone.
- crates/engine/src/cmd/{book,interchange}.rs: main's confined and reporting
imports, with the PDF crops resolved after them.
- crates/engine/src/cmd/print.rs: main's print_with, exporting with the
measured PDF boxes.
- crates/engine/src/cmd/links.rs: main's text links plus pdfCrop.
- crates/engine/src/cmd/{datamerge/fill,mathexpr,media,table}.rs,
crates/format/src/lib.rs: main's add_asset with the asset defaults.
- crates/engine/src/cmd/package.rs, crates/engine/src/tests_idml.rs: both
sides' tests.
- crates/fonts/src/fontdb.rs: main's style traits, looked up through
plain_family.
- crates/render/src/lib.rs: pdf_crop_box replaces pdf_page_box; main's
UserUnit test checks pdf_crop_box.
- crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs.rs: main's dialog with the content-bounds crops.
Also: Asset::same_file compares the PDF crop, so placing or saving no longer
merges two crops of one page; Asset literals added on main take the defaults;
main's PageNumber test checks the crop and that page 1 is written; new tests
a_pdf_page_placed_with_two_crops_imports_as_two_assets and
pdf_assets_with_different_crops_stay_apart.
A font whose fsType allows embedding bitmaps only (bit 9, 0x0200) was
packaged with its outlines; it is now refused like a restricted one.
char_css wrote font-weight: bold for any style containing "bold", so
Semibold showed as Bold and Light as Regular; it now writes the numeric
weight (100-900) and style from the face's style name. Same approach as
aiongg's integration branch (#259, 8f54d1cc), with his test.
coverImage was read with an uncapped std::fs::read, so a huge file or a
device like /dev/zero could exhaust memory. Read it through the data
merge's capped reader, which now also stops the read itself at the cap
(a device reports no length), as in aiongg's integration branch (#259,
6eae3620), with /dev/zero as a test.
Callers from outside the app now get a parameter error for a key a
command's params description doesn't name, instead of the command
running with its defaults: `text.select {story, start, end}` and
`style.list {bogus: 1}` are refused with "unknown parameter `…`" and the
nearest or the accepted keys.
- engine: `cmd::params` (ported from VectorCraft #1442) reads the keys
from each params description; `check_params` / `check_keys`.
`Session::execute` itself stays lenient so old journals replay; in the
engine's own tests it checks too, as the audit of the descriptions.
- MCP: tools/call answers -32602 for an argument a tool doesn't take and
for params a command doesn't take (`execute`, every `batch` step before
the first runs); the headless backend checks as well.
- Control channel (`engine.execute`) and `designcraft-cli run --cmd`.
- Descriptions now name every key their commands read (table target
cells, anchored objects, gap.move, file.place, data merge, prefs.set,
…); type.char / type.para stay unchecked (their attributes may be the
params object itself; the setters refuse unknown attributes).
- Tests that passed keys the commands never read are fixed, and the pen
tool no longer sends the unread `notifyPen`.
Fixes#776
- Every font-family fell back to serif, sans-serif typefaces included.
The fallback now comes from the font's classification (PANOSE, OS/2
class, name: serif, sans-serif, monospace, cursive, fantasy), passed
in by the engine; without one, from the family name.
- file.exportEpub takes embedFonts: the faces the stylesheet names are
packaged (OEBPS/fonts, @font-face, manifest items with font/ttf, otf,
woff or woff2). Faces that aren't available, whose licence (OS/2
fsType) forbids embedding, or that sit in a font collection are left
out and listed in the new warnings array. Fonts are packaged whole;
subsetting is a follow-up.
Fixes#775
- An image without alt text (Object Export Options) got its file name as
alt, which a screen reader then reads aloud. It is now decorative
(alt=""), and file.exportEpub lists those images in a new warnings
array so they can be given alt text.
- Images and media were packaged as images/<asset id>.<ext>. They are
now <name>-<asset id>.<ext>, the name from the original file name
(lowercase ASCII); the id keeps two files of the same name apart.
Fixes#774
- dcterms:modified was always 2026-01-01T00:00:00Z. It is now the
export time (from the command; on the web, and in the crate without
one, the document's last save or creation time).
- The default dc:identifier was urn:designcraft:<title>, shared by
books with the same title. It is now a urn:uuid derived from the
title and the document's creation time: stable from export to export,
different between documents. file.exportEpub takes identifier to set
it (an ISBN, say).
- file.exportEpub takes coverImage, a PNG or JPEG file used as the
cover (cover-image); a JPEG is packaged as cover.jpg/image/jpeg.
Fixes#771Fixes#773
nav.xhtml had one entry per placed story, labelled with its first
paragraph (body text too), and always the title "Contents".
- Headings (h1-h6) get an id in the EPUB, and the navigation lists the
h1-h3 headings of the stories in reading order, nested by level and
linked to them. A document without headings keeps one entry per
story (its first paragraph).
- The navigation's title follows the language (Inhoud, Inhalt, Table
des matières, Índice, Indice, 目次, 目录; Contents otherwise), and
file.exportEpub takes tocTitle to set it.

Pages draw the base parent's items, then the parent's, then their own,
on the canvas, in PDF and image export, and on the parent spread itself.
Chains are followed base first with a depth bound. Overrides, parent hit
testing and the flattener's transparency check include base items.
layout.parents.options {parent, basedOn} sets or clears the base and
refuses cycles; document.inspect reports basedOn per parent. Opening a
.designcraft or IDML file clears a cyclic or dangling base with a warning.
IDML already carried the base as the parent pages' AppliedMaster; a test
covers the round trip.
Replace native engine saves and engine/MCP exports atomically, preserving private permissions during staging and cleaning up failed writes. Add regressions for long filenames and caught writer unwinding.

A placed graphic keeps its clipping path (Detect Edges, Alpha Channel,
Photoshop Path or User-Modified Path) in graphic space, with the
options IDML carries. IDML import reads ClippingPathSettings and its
saved ClippingPathGeometry (anchors capped, non-finite subpaths
dropped); export writes them back. The canvas and PDF export clip the
image to the path inside the frame clip; an inverted path shows the
image outside it. Without saved geometry nothing changes.
object.clippingPathOptions reports a graphic's clipping path, inverts
it or removes it (Object > Clipping Path > None).

Documents, books, libraries, snippets, swatches and every export are
written to a temporary file beside the target, flushed, renamed over it
and the folder flushed, so a crash, kill or full disk mid-write leaves
the old file intact. Replaced files keep their permissions, symbolic
links keep pointing at their file, and Windows retries a rename that a
scanner briefly blocks.
Fixes#436
IDML import found every Bounding Box crop by rendering the PDF page at
2048 pixels, once per placement, so opening a 17-page document that
places one Illustrator file 16 times took about 54 s of CPU. Import now
measures the box only for a graphic without GraphicBounds; drawing finds
it through designcraft_render::shown_box (cached per file, page and crop)
and PDF export through with_pdf_boxes.
PDF export replaces objects with soft effects by images of their
appearance. The image item carried no text wrap, so text recomposed
for the export ran under the object. Each rasterized object with a
wrap now stays in the export copy as a nonprinting stand-in that keeps
the wrap of the frame, its placed graphic and its grouped items, with
its text, form field, button and media removed.
Conflicts: compose lib.rs imports (both; Composer unused), idml tests.rs (both test modules), ui-egui
panels/mod.rs (next's ruler origin with the branch's graphic wrap for Direct Selection).
A placed graphic carries its own text wrap (Graphic.wrap). IDML import
reads TextWrapPreference on the Image/PDF element and export writes it
back there. Layout treats it as an obstacle around the part of the
graphic its frame shows, plus the offsets, and also collects wraps of
items inside groups. object.textWrap acts on the graphic when the
selection is the frame's content, and the Text Wrap panel shows its wrap.
