Return ordered item IDs from Move, Duplicate and Step and Repeat while preserving the existing moved and created counts, selection and undo behavior. Scripts can use the IDs to operate on copies.
Validation: eight independent probes covering both swatch validation and returned IDs, plus all six cargo xtask ci gates on main after #520 (1,188 native tests passed, 3 ignored; all 15 applicable crates passed WASM compilation checks). Both ROADMAP entries and command regression modules are retained.
Task: #521
Reject unknown object fill, stroke and gap swatch names before editing the document, and suggest an existing name where possible.
Validation: three independent atomicity and compatibility probes, plus all six cargo xtask ci gates against current main (1,187 native tests passed, 3 ignored; all 15 applicable crates passed WASM compilation checks). ROADMAP progress entries are retained.
Task: #520
Reject unknown character fill swatches before modifying text or undo history. Registered swatch names remain valid, including names that resemble hex colours.
Validation: invalid-name atomicity and save/reopen regressions, plus all six cargo xtask ci gates on main after #514 and #523 (1,186 native tests passed, 3 ignored; 15 crates passed WASM compilation checks).
Task: #403
Parent-page text now uses the absolute page index as its cache key, so repeated page numbers and renumbering do not reuse another page's composition.
Validation: targeted canvas and PDF regressions, plus all six cargo xtask ci gates on main after #514 (1,179 native tests passed, 3 ignored; 15 crates passed WASM compilation checks).
Task: #523
Match IDML part names leniently, report missing parts, and show import warnings when opening a file. Cover the malformed URI crash with a regression test.
Validation: all six cargo xtask ci gates passed on the current main merge candidate; 1,176 native tests passed and all 15 WASM packages checked.
Hosted FreeBSD tests and Windows ARM64 packaging and install/run checks passed.
Task: #356

Share duplicate file data while keeping distinct link paths independent, and leave unused assets out of saved documents.
Validation: all six cargo xtask ci gates passed on the merge candidate; 1,170 native tests passed and all 15 WASM packages checked. Independent regression checks cover updates, relinking, embedding, undo and save/reopen.
Task: #420
* Place: an image placed into a frame fills it once and leaves Auto-Fit off
* Place: the fitting test names its fitting, since a placed image no longer auto-fits
A CMYK component of 1 or less was read as a fraction even when the other
components were percentages, so {"c": 0.7, "m": 0, "y": 12.2, "k": 0}
(a pale cream) became C 70 % Y 12.2 % and exported as
`0.7019608 0 0.12156863 0 k`. The same applied to RGB arrays.
Now a colour is read as percentages (0..100, or 0..255 for RGB) when any
component is above 1, and as fractions only when every component is
within 0..1.

file.place sized a placed PDF page (and SVG) from its size rounded to
whole points, while the export draws the page into that size: a page of
91.774 x 613.276 pt became 92 x 613 and was drawn 0.25 % wider and
0.3 % shorter, so pieces laid edge to edge left gaps of up to 1.9 pt.
A 100.4 x 50.4 pt page placed 100.4 pt wide came out 50.2 pt tall:
`Rect { x0: 0.0, y0: 0.0, x1: 100.4, y1: 50.2 }`.
The graphic's natural size is now the exact page (crop box) or SVG size;
the rounded pixel size stays for display and preflight. place.load (the
place cursor) gets the same exact size.

* PDF export: Export Adobe PDF options dialog with remembered settings
File > Export PDF... now opens an options dialog (General / Compression /
Marks and Bleeds / Advanced) that exposes only the parameters the engine's
file.exportPdf already supports: PDF standard, image compression, flattener
preset, spreads, document bleed, crop/bleed/page-info marks with weight and
offset, tagged PDF, page range, and the title. Choosing a preset fills the
dependent fields; editing any field switches the preset to Custom.
The last-used settings persist in ui.json (UiState.pdfExport) and are reused
across exports and sessions. Programmatic callers that pass explicit params
(path, options) still export directly without the dialog; cancelling the save
picker writes nothing.
Adds English and ar/pt-br strings, unit tests for the settings serde, the
dialog defaults and preset mapping, the open/confirm flow (stub writer), and
the menu dispatch, plus a ROADMAP note.
* PDF export: rename dialog title to "Export PDF"

* Set warichu as smaller lines inside the parent line.
Type › Warichu stacks the selected run after the line is broken, closes up the rest of the line, and round-trips the IDML warichu properties. The line break itself still sees the full-size run.
* Keep clicks, the caret, and Up/Down on each warichu row.
The glyphs were already stacked inside the parent line, but hit testing, the caret, and vertical movement still used that parent line. Break minimums, row widths, spacing, and tab leaders now follow the small lines, and underlines sit on the small baseline.

A break character is stored as the last character of the paragraph it
ends, followed by the usual '\n' separator. The story model, paragraph
ranges, styles, editing and every exporter keep splitting paragraphs on
'\n' only, so the change stays in the places that create, lay out or
write break characters:
- IDML import writes the break and ends the paragraph, so the range that
follows keeps its own paragraph style. NextOddPage and NextEvenPage map
to new odd and even page break characters; IDML export writes a
paragraph that ends in a break as that one Br with its
ParagraphBreakType, so export and re-import give the same story.
- Word and RTF import, Type > Insert Break Character (with odd and even
page breaks added) and typing end the paragraph after a break. Typing
between a break and its return goes to the next paragraph; deleting
either deletes both.
- Layout: a break that ends a paragraph leaves no empty line; the next
paragraph starts in the next column, frame or page, as a paragraph start
option would. Page breaks and Next Page start options move to the next
frame on a later page; odd and even ones to the next page with that
page number parity (no such frame: overset). A break inside a paragraph
from an older document still moves the rest of that paragraph on.
Storing the break as a paragraph separator of its own would have changed
every place that counts or splits paragraphs on '\n'.

* test(datamerge): pin facing-page record placement (#198)
#198 reported that with `facingPages: true` the merged records after the
first landed at identical coordinates on one spread, leaving a later page
empty. That no longer reproduces: `data.merge` now builds a new document
rather than duplicating pages inside the template, and the three records
land on absolute pages 0, 1 and 2 with no overlap.
Nothing in the engine changed here. These two tests pin the behaviour the
issue asked for, both at the one-record-per-page plan and at the short
block that tiles, so a future refactor of `tile_records` can't quietly
bring the stacking back.

* Text frames: column rules draw between columns on screen and in PDF
A frame with Column Rule on gets a bar centred in each gutter, inside the
insets, broken around paragraphs that span columns; right-to-left and
vertical frames included. object.textFrameOptions takes columnRuleWeight
and columnRuleColor (unknown swatches are an error) and an inset array
whose null sides stay; document.inspect reports the rule.
* Text Frame Options: Column Rules fields; OK changes only edited fields
The dialog shows the selected frame's options, with an inset field per
side, and sends only what the user changed, so unequal insets survive.
The rule weight is read in points.
* Column rules: tint, horizontal offset and top/bottom insets; IDML import and export
Text Frame Options gains Tint %, Top Inset, Bottom Inset and Horizontal
Offset for the rule, and object.textFrameOptions and document.inspect
take and report them. IDML reads the ColumnRule attributes of
TextFramePreference on frames and object styles and writes them when a
rule is set.

The rows share one fixed height that preserves their composed total. Merged rows and rows that are not laid out are refused, and the table stays unchanged.
Packages name the folder `Document fonts`; on a case-sensitive file system, opening a document beside it loaded none of its fonts. The exact name still wins when both exist.
`object.opacity` documents `blend?: normal|multiply|…`, but parsed the
value with `serde_json::from_value`, which only accepts the enum's
PascalCase variant names. Every documented lowercase form was silently
dropped: the command returned `{"changed": 1}` while the stored blend
stayed as it was, so a client following the parameter description could
save and export the previous appearance without any error (#260).
Parse with the codebase's own `BlendMode::parse`, which is already
case-, space-, underscore- and hyphen-insensitive and covered by tests,
so `multiply`, `MULTIPLY`, `Color Burn`, `soft_light` and the serialized
`Multiply` all resolve to the same mode. An unrecognized value is now an
error rather than a silent no-op, matching how sibling commands treat a
bad parameter — restoring `normal` after `Multiply` really does go back
to Normal.
Three tests in `blend_mode_tests`: the documented forms apply, the
PascalCase names the Properties panel submits still apply, and an
unknown value is rejected without changing the item.

A frame that a column, frame or page break ends early held only a few
characters, and autoflow took that as the rate frames fill at: placing
text that starts with a page break added a page per few characters
(33 pages for 98 characters, 271 for a one-page Word section). The
estimate now comes from full frames only; with none yet, one page is
added and the story measured again. Regression test covers a leading
break and a break between every paragraph. Fixes#262.

Three commands took a count from their parameters and used it unchecked.
Parameters come from MCP, the control channel and scripts, so the count
is hostile input (never-crash: cap input-sized allocations, checked
arithmetic).
- layout.createGuides made one or two guides per row and column with no
upper limit: 30 million rows took 1.2 GB, and 2^32 - 1 would exhaust
memory, which aborts the process past the command guard. A count over
2^32 wrapped to a small one. Both counts are now capped at 100.
- edit.stepAndRepeat multiplied rows by columns as usize. In debug builds
the overflow panicked; in release builds 2^32 x 2^32 wraps to 0, passes
the 1000-copy limit and starts a grid of 2^64 copies. The product is
now checked, and a grid that large falls back to `count` copies like
any other grid over 1000.
- file.new stored any column count in the page (4 billion, or a wrapped
value past 2^32). Page::column_rects builds one rect per column each
time the columns are laid out. The count is now clamped to 1..=216,
the range layout.marginsAndColumns already uses.
Each case has a regression test that failed before the fix.

IDML names some languages by locale code
(AppliedLanguage="$ID/de_DE_2006", "$ID/nl_NL_2005") beside names such
as "English: USA" and "Spanish: Castilian". language_tag maps any locale
code (ll, ll_CC, ll-CC, with a reform year after them) to its BCP 47 tag
(de-DE, nl-NL; kept once per process, at most 512 distinct tags), ignores
IDML's $ID/ prefix, and knows Spanish: Castilian (es-ES) and Swiss French
and Italian. The stored name stays as written, so IDML round trips are
unchanged.
What depends on the language now goes by the tag: typographer's quotes
(by language subtag; Swiss regions take guillemets), English
hyphenation and spelling (is_english), Korean word breaking and the CJK
fallback chains (ja-JP, ko-KR are Japanese and Korean whatever the
region).
Font menus list Western (and other-script) families first, then
Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean families,
each group alphabetical by the name shown, with a separator between
groups. The group comes from the font's own data, strongest signal
first: the meta table's dlng (else slng) languages, family names in a
CJK language (Windows and Macintosh language IDs), OS/2 code pages (JIS,
Chinese Simplified, Korean Wansung, Chinese Traditional, Korean Johab);
a font declaring none of these goes by what it covers (kana, Hangul,
ideographs). Ties go Japanese, Simplified, Traditional, Korean. Loaded faces are classified
once; installed fonts by the font scan, which also reads their OS/2 and
meta tables (and cmap only for fonts declaring nothing), capped.
CJK families show their family name in their language, the English
name on hover; Preferences > Type > Show Font Names in English
(prefs.set {showFontNamesInEnglish}, off by default) shows English
names. Search matches either name; documents store the English name.
The Character panel, Control bar, Properties, style dialogs, Find Font
and Glyphs panel lists all follow this order. The main font menu stays
open while searching or starring (it closed on any click inside).
Font previews don't draw DesignCraft's missing-glyph box for fonts
whose .notdef is empty.
A character the applied font lacks is drawn as that font's missing-glyph
box (its .notdef, gid 0), on screen and in PDF, and Preflight lists the
characters by font ("Missing glyphs in <family> <style>: …", an error,
at most 20 named). A .notdef without an outline is drawn as a hollow box
across its advance, so a missing character never disappears. PDF draws
.notdef glyphs as paths, which PDF/A and PDF/UA accept. Kenten marks are
set in their text's font the same way.
The document setting Draw Missing Glyphs from Fallback Fonts
(DocSettings::glyph_fallback; Preferences > Composition,
document.preferences {glyphFallback}, undoable) draws them from fallback
fonts instead (the language-aware chains, then any font; kenten marks
from a fallback font, else a bullet). It is off in new documents and
IDML imports and on in files saved before it existed, which keep
drawing as they did. A missing font's substitute always uses fallback
fonts. The composition cache's signature includes the setting. Tests
whose Arabic comes from a fallback font turn the setting on.
language_tag ignores case and punctuation and recognises Chinese in its
common spellings and locale codes (Simplified Chinese, Chinese
(Simplified), zh_CN, zh-Hans; Traditional Chinese, zh_TW, zh_HK,
zh-Hant), and Japanese and Korean locale codes (ja_JP, ko_KR).
Typographer's quotes for Chinese and Japanese follow the tag, so every
spelling takes the same quotes. IDML import keeps the name as written.
Composition draws the characters a named font lacks with fallback faces
(the language's CJK chain, then the generic fallbacks). Package now also
copies their font files: it collects the distinct faces of the visible
glyphs of every composed story (table cells and footnotes included) and
copies those that aren't a named font's face by the same rules (restricted
licence listed, bundled included with DesignCraft, no file noted, each file
once). The report lists them under Fallback fonts.
The fonts in a document's Document Fonts folder are registered under a
font scope that the document holds while it is open (Document::font_scope,
runtime only; DocState keeps the scope alive and closes it when the last
copy of the state goes: file.close, closing a tab, revert, a book
chapter's export, the session ending). Composition, preflight, font.list,
Package and the font menus, Glyphs panel and previews look fonts up
through FontDb::scoped(scope): the document's own faces first, then the
shared ones. Other open documents don't see them, and two documents with
fonts of the same name each set text in their own. Composite fonts'
member fonts and the fallback for kenten marks are looked up the same
way.
Font files stay in memory for the session (FaceRef keeps faces for the
process); a document opened again reuses the faces of its unchanged files
(same path, length and modification time) instead of reading them again.
The composition cache's signature includes the scope; the word cache and
the outline and PDF font caches are keyed by face. Variable font
instances are kept per base face.
A family's installed faces join the shared fonts all at once, and a
face two lookups load at the same time is kept once, so a parallel
fallback lookup never takes a family's bold before its regular has
loaded.
In vertical text Down and Up move along the line by a character (by a
word with Alt), Left and Right to the next and previous line keeping the
position along it, and Shift extends, as the arrows do in horizontal
text turned a quarter. The caret is a bar across the vertical line.
Vertical is a story property: every frame of a thread is vertical or
horizontal together, a frame threaded onto a story takes its direction,
and frames split off by threading or breaking a thread keep theirs.
Type > Story Direction is type.storyDirection {vertical} (checked in the
menu) for the stories of the text selection or selected frames;
object.textFrameOptions {vertical} and frame.create {vertical} set the
frames' stories. Documents that stored Vertical on the frame open with
each story taking its first frame's direction. IDML StoryOrientation is
read into and written from the story, beside its column direction
(StoryDirection), which stays a separate setting.
