Cells and cell styles had no first-baseline setting, so every cell set its first line by the
Ascent offset (the font's typographic ascender). IDML documents that set FirstBaselineOffset on a
cell style (CapHeight is common, often through a table style's body region) composed every row
taller than the document asked for. With a font whose typographic ascender is a full em (Avenir),
each row grew about 2.6 pt and long tables overset, losing their last rows.
- doc: Cell.first_baseline / first_baseline_min; CellStyle.first_baseline / first_baseline_min,
applied by CellStyle::apply_to and carried through resolve_cell_style's BasedOn chain.
- idml: FirstBaselineOffset and MinimumFirstBaselineOffset read and written on cells and cell styles.
- compose: a cell's text frame uses the cell's first baseline offset and minimum.
- engine: table.setCell, style.cell.create/edit take firstBaseline / firstBaselineMin; table.get
reports them; style.cell.create fromSelection captures them.
- tests: import through BasedOn and a table style's body region, a cell's own override, IDML round
trip; composer cap height vs ascent and a fixed minimum; command parameters and validation.

Conflict: crates/compose/src/lib.rs: modules and exports both (outline, optical, parabox, hit_note_with); placement = next's carry/grid/wrap_slot code, entered for outlines too (and the first-word `need`); free_slots starts from the outline's intervals with cut set (1.5 em filter, segments in reading order, reversed for RTL); the branch's free_slot dropped
Conflict: crates/compose/src/lib.rs: next's bands are top..baseline (descenders hang into wraps); a shaped frame's outline holds the descenders too: wrap_slot and free_slots take the line's descent, used only for the outline's intervals (the branch's oval tests check descender corners)
Conflict: crates/compose/src/lib.rs: estimate_slots takes the band (the paragraph's ascent from line_metrics, max 0.8 em, and descent, max 0.25 em, for a shaped frame; next's 0.8 em and no descent otherwise), returns early only without wraps and outline; est_first uses that ascent; wrap_slot's 1 pt step for outlines (and contours) returns None when it makes no progress or is not finite
Conflict: crates/compose/src/tests.rs: tests both
Conflict: ROADMAP.md: logs both
Conflict: crates/compose/src/lib.rs: one re-export line with next's hit_cell_with and the branch's BorderHit/hit_border
Conflict: crates/tools/src/text.rs: next's IME/preedit, guides and unit_selected kept alongside the border drag; border press checked after the Down resets; drag keeps next's `cell_drag || unit_selected` guard after the border branch; Esc cancels a border drag before next's preedit guard; BorderHit via next's `compose` alias
Conflict: crates/tools/src/tests.rs: both sides' appended tests kept
Conflict: docs/target-app-parity.md: next's IDML line, branch's Tables line
Conflict: ROADMAP.md: branch entry on top of next's entries
Hovering a table's inner column or row border, or its end or bottom
edge, shows a double-arrow cursor; dragging resizes instead of selecting
text. A column drag changes the column before the border and moves later
columns; Shift keeps the table width (the next column compensates), and
Shift on the end edge scales every column. Rows work the same way, and a
dragged row becomes At Least. Sizes clamp at 3 pt. One undo step per
drag, Esc cancels, locked frames refuse, and the pointer is mapped
through the frame's transform so rotated frames and turned spreads work.
New command table.resizeBorder {story?, table?, frame?, axis, index,
delta | size, keepTableSize?}; the Type tool emits it through
Begin/Preview/Commit. compose::hit_border finds the border under a point
in frame inner space.
Closes#595
Conflict: ROADMAP.md: both progress lines (next's, then #556's)
Conflict: crates/compose/src/shape.rs: #556's empty-marker zero-width glyph; next's digit mapping, styles.at(i)/styles and sub.upright() in both arms
- table.setCell starts each chosen edge from the stroke rendering draws there (the winning
copy of a shared edge, the row/column pattern, or the table border) and writes the result
to both copies; table.getCellStroke reports drawn edges, counting each shared edge once.
compose::table::cell_side_strokes shares the resolution with the renderer.
- Commands accept dash patterns of 1-64 lengths, each 0 or 0.1-10000 pt. Screen and PDF
draw a dash or dot pattern that would repeat more than 20000 times along a path as solid.
- Stripes, wavy, hash and gap colour extend by half the weight at table corners.
- Cell Options: an edge change reseeds every stroke field and tolerates a non-object seed.
- Edge proxy: a triple-click decides from the choice before the first click.
* ci: simplify testkit dependency match for Clippy
* IDML: resolve table styles and shared cell edges
* Compose: size table cells by baseline and physical bounds

A spanning paragraph closes the band of columns above it. Those columns
are balanced first and the paragraph sits below the deepest of them; the
columns after it start below the paragraph, so text that moves to the
next column no longer restarts at the frame top over the heading. A
spanning paragraph that doesn't fit moves to the next frame. Span counts
below the column count set the paragraph across the first columns only.
Conflict: crates/compose/src/lib.rs: next computes spacing_for earlier; kept the fix's spanning/span_paras/next_column lines and dropped its duplicate spacing line
Conflict: crates/compose/src/tests.rs: tests only; kept both

Trailing spaces and drop caps both join the placed line; hit testing checks
the drop cap first, then the closest line (hit_line). hit_char also picks
the drop cap's character under the point, so a double click on the cap
selects from it (the follow-up both PRs named).

Resolve conflicts with the CJK/Arabic work: trailing spaces follow the line
only in left-to-right paragraphs without right-to-left glyphs (layout_line
now takes the bidi info); style linking moves to ScopedFonts so the
document's own fonts count (FontDb delegates to scope 0); threading keeps
the receiving story's direction and Vertical Type, and frames split off by
threading or removed from a thread keep theirs.

Resolve conflicts with the CJK/Arabic composition work: line metrics keep
the first-baseline tops and add the CJK alignment shift; the CJK line
reference adjustment applies before baseline-grid snapping; layout_line
takes the bidi info and the drop cap is spliced in after it; vertical text
is now the story's direction (FrameSpec::vertical); IDML insets use main's
validated inset_spacing over the object style chain; format's JSON upgrade
(vertical frames) and model upgrade (format v2 defaults) both run.

Vertical is a story property: every frame of a thread is vertical or
horizontal together, a frame threaded onto a story takes its direction,
and frames split off by threading or breaking a thread keep theirs.
Type > Story Direction is type.storyDirection {vertical} (checked in the
menu) for the stories of the text selection or selected frames;
object.textFrameOptions {vertical} and frame.create {vertical} set the
frames' stories. Documents that stored Vertical on the frame open with
each story taking its first frame's direction. IDML StoryOrientation is
read into and written from the story, beside its column direction
(StoryDirection), which stays a separate setting.
Port the CJK1 and AR1 changes from 3ecdb78 and de83cdc onto current main. Resolve translation and font-stack conflicts by retaining main localization and craft-fonts integration while preserving all typesetting code, tests, and documentation.
Validation: all six CI gates passed, including 616 tests and WASM checks.
- Double-clicking a text frame with the Selection tool edits its text. The
canvas counts presses itself (egui reports double clicks only on release,
so the press never saw them): 2 clicks select the word or run of spaces
under the pointer, 3 the line, 4 the paragraph, 5 the story
(`text.selectAt`; pointer events carry `clicks`).
- The caret moves past spaces typed at the end of a line: trailing spaces
follow the line undrawn instead of being dropped.
- Bold and Italic (Shift+Cmd+B / Shift+Cmd+I, B and I in the Character
panel) toggle the family's own styles per run, keeping the other trait
(Italic + Bold = Bold Italic). Formatting chosen at a caret applies to
what is typed next.
- Copy, Cut and Paste reach the system clipboard however they are chosen,
including from the native macOS menu; without a native menu the copy and
paste keys work for objects too.
- Formatting Affects Text (J, Tools panel) sends swatches, colours, tints,
None, Swap and Default to the text of the selected frames; the proxy and
the Swatches and Color panels show the text's colours.
expect() calls become let-else / fallbacks. A parent spread without pages
(possible in a .designcraft file) no longer underflows in parent_page_for,
and check() rejects a next_id so large that allocating ids would overflow.
Both crates deny the panicking lints.
